So, in passing, I saw my little sister's (she's twelve) social studies notebook. It had a huge (I'm talking a giant whale kinda huge here) picture of a cross with the term "Christianity" across it and a picture of Obama (irrelevant, but whatever). That's it.

So I was like, you shouldn't have put such a hugeass cross on your notebook.
"Why not?"
And that kinda stumped me for a second. I mean, she's technically not forcing her opinion on anyone. And she should be allowed to state her beliefs, whatever (for the record, I'm a semi-practicing Catholic too, I just hate announcing it to the world). It's just that I find it annoying when people are overly vocal about their beliefs, regardless of whatever it is. That, and I just don't like it when people bring up religion in school unless they're speaking from a historical perspective.

Opinions?

Why not? If she's found something that she's passionate about to put it on a notebook, and it isn't Justin Beiber (I kid) or drug-related, then I don't see the problem in it. She isn't standing on the road preaching to 'the sinners' or anything.

Being overly vocal and being a devout follower are two entirely different things. Being a reluctant Catholic myself I understand where you are coming from, but some people identify themselves through their faith. That's just a fact of life that we all have to live with.

Her own personal notebook? As long as she's not proselytizing to the class I don't really see the problem.

I hate it when people who like the internet put memes on their T-shirts. Is it obnoxious cause i have to see it? Yes. Should I care or do anything about it? Nope.

She has a point. Why not? It's her book, it's her belief, she can put whatever she wants on it. And wouldn't telling her that she shouldn't do something be trying to force beliefs on her?

I figure having an openly displayed emblem is a way to express your beliefs without having to go up and shout it at people. It's MUCH better than being vocally obnoxious about it.

Well I have two opinions on it:

1. Yeah, people are perfectly free to annnounce their beliefs. It's perfectly natural for people to have different beliefs, and it's wrong of me to think others must believe the same as me. You gotta embrace it.
2. Just don't be a dick about it. Don't go around hating people for believing differently. I don't mind preaching in the streets or anyting, just don't harass me in any way. I hate when misguided christians start hating on people, or when atheists troll theists. Just let people believe what they want to.
