What do you think is The most overrated Band/Song/Movie/Book/Game you've experienced personally.

I have 2, One is The Beatles, i know they're good and i like a few of their songs but they're not the gods many of my friends claim they are.

The second is The Godfather Part II, not really bad just BORING. Also a real let down after my brother talking my ear off about how amazing it was and making loads of best films lists. I didn't see it personally

Half Life 2, Portal, Counterstrike. Not bad games in themselves, but when you're preached about them being the greatest games ever to be created then you kind of expect something more.

The Beatles, I agree. In the words of Scroobius Pip, "Just a band".

Man fuck the Beatles, i'm British, they're meant to be our baby and I hate 'em.

Aside from that, Metallica, Quentin Tarintino and well, all self righteous opinions on the Escapist and continuing on from that, the internet!

Im British too, everyone expects us to love The Beatles.

Surely you mean the people on the Internet, the Internet is an amazing invention. Pretty much any information at your fingertips. I can't imagine writing ANY of my assignments for University without the internet.

Well I've watched the first two Twilight movies, but that goes without saying. Too easy.

Probably Fargo. Consider this:

- It's a film by the Coen Brothers.
- It got loads of Academy Award nominations, even won a couple.
- It's no 118 in the IMDB top 250.
- Roger Ebert gave it 4 out of 4 stars.

I had every reason to expect this movie was going to rock my world, blow my mind, and take me for a ride and when I finally got my hands on it, I was so excited.

It was a slow, plodding, well-acted but largely dull movie based on a true story that wasn't really that interesting or watchable to begin with.

I really didn't like the stealth sections in Beyond Good & Evil, they ruined the game for me. As far as movies go, Avatar is definitely one, though a lot of the internet seems to agree with me. But in RL, everyone around me loves the movie as if its the best thing to ever happen to cinema. I mean come on, really? The effects are good, but the plot is so generic, and the characters are so undeveloped and one-dimensional...what the hell is the big deal?

And now for real controversy: beef. I like hamburgers, and once every blue moon I crave a steak, but why do people go so crazy over beef? Am I just cursed with broken tastebuds? It's tough, dry, and frankly kinda tasteless. And what taste there is is just kind of...meh. IMO, chicken is about 10000000000000000000x better.

I have to disagree with the Beatles, but I totally agree with Godfather Part II. It was really really boring.

As well as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"

Hm, what else?

A Hermit's Cave
Film-wise - Saving Private Ryan & Gladiator (ok films at best, just nowhere near as good as everyone touts)
Game-wise - Fable (One day, if I ever encounter Peter Molyneux, I will shotgun him in the face)

CoD it's bland and the same game every year, you have the short and boring campaign, the stupid multiplayer with 0 dedicated servers and occasionally the zombies which is ok but not worth 70$ for plus 15$ per new map

IMHO they would be thus:

Movie(s) Star Wars
Music Madonna or Nirvana
Games The whole MMO genre
Books Twilight series

Not bothering to explain them as it's just an opinion and well opinions are like assholes. Everyone got one and most of them stink. :)

Wow, and here I thought this was going to be a thread pointing out the prevalence of threads dismissing popular things.

Me too. I'm disappointed, to be honest. Cynicism and negativity are kind of an overrated entertainment vehicle, if you ask me.

Clever. I think that cynicism has reached a singularity with this post.

The Sopranos - I always hear the TV saying it was awesome but I have never seen an episode
AC/DC - They arn't that good...
Twilight Books - Oh god! When the fan fiction writers are writing stories better than the books...
CoD/BF - Same game every year and you still pay for it. Are you dumb?
Angelina Jolie - She was attractive from like 1995-2003, then WTF happened to her face?
Inglorious Bastards - Watching that made me feel like I was being dragged slowly over broken glass. It was not a good movie.

I have more but I think that's enough

Movies: The Blair Witch Project. A lot of people talk about how great it was and, how revolutionary it was but I just thought it was utter garbage.

The Dark Knight. I liked the movie but Nolan's movies really don't feel like Batman movies. It's like watching a mob movie featuring Batman. Also Ledger was great but he's by no means my favorite Joker. He's third in my top three and his laugh was under-utilized.

Music: I can't really comment here since I dislike most popular music like stuff by Beiber and Gaga, etc. I'll leave those names up though.

Game: Street Fighter as a franchise. I had SF2 on the SNES but I never liked it as much as Killer Instinct or, Primal Rage. While I think about it, what the hell ever happened to Bloody Roar too?

Book: I don't care at all for Mark Twain at all.

for me, Band has to be Nirvana, bland talentless crap and people act like they are as good as the beatles*I like the beatles*

Book- the bible, sorry it's a horrible fantasy story

game, Half Life and Metal Gear Solid - both are just dull to me and I saw nothing special to them

Film, Silence of the Lambs - not really scary and the main Hannibal was cartoonish to me
