I seem to recall reading somewhere an interview with Mr. Kojima in which he clearly stated that the Solid Snake character is based on Snake Plissken from Escape From New York. However, even if it isn't so, Solid and Plissken share so many common traits that coincidence seems unlikely.
Conversely, I can find no parallels between Solid Snake and James Bond. They're both government agents, they both undertake seemingly-impossible missions, they both like using gadgets... I think that's about it. The new, "reinvented" Bond, seen in the last two films, seems to take a step or two towards Snake territory, but the "original" Bond(s) would seduce and sleep their way into the enemy's stronghold instead of all that sneaking about inside cardboard boxes.
