The 15 Films that Influenced Hideo Kojima

I seem to recall reading somewhere an interview with Mr. Kojima in which he clearly stated that the Solid Snake character is based on Snake Plissken from Escape From New York. However, even if it isn't so, Solid and Plissken share so many common traits that coincidence seems unlikely.

Conversely, I can find no parallels between Solid Snake and James Bond. They're both government agents, they both undertake seemingly-impossible missions, they both like using gadgets... I think that's about it. The new, "reinvented" Bond, seen in the last two films, seems to take a step or two towards Snake territory, but the "original" Bond(s) would seduce and sleep their way into the enemy's stronghold instead of all that sneaking about inside cardboard boxes.

Casino Royale [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/] - Finally, the biggest influence upon Metal Gear, James Bond.
funny a movie that came out just before the end of the series is something that influenced him a lot? doesn't really make sense unless he means the 60s version
Second...

Seriously? What the hell? He was inspired to create MGS wank-verse by watching a film yet to be created? Did the nano bots do it?

I know you aren't TRYING to anger me and my self-righteosness, but (out of curiosity) why do you say so?
For every one thing 2001 gets right, it takes a step back by doing something wrong. It has a great story, but poor storytelling. It's pace is extremely poor. I tends to meander around. It's too bad really, if the story had ended up in the hands of someone who actually WANTED to tell a story instead of Kubrick, we might have had a better movie.

In case some of you don't know, when it was first released, critics panned the movie, instead of giving it the kind of God-like worship it enjoys nowadays.

The James Bond References: Play MGS3. That inteir game is basically a reinvention of James Bond- Sexy women with pointlessly skimpy clothing, over the top action, cold war espianogue.

I didn't see 2001, but i'm going to guess it influenced MGS2.

Don't forget the "Snake Eater" theme song.

I've yet to watch a few films on the list, but I can't say I'm a fan of all of them (that I've seen).

I still can't make up my mind, though, regarding the whole Casino Royale debate. Are these his inspirations for MGS as a series or only the latest installment (4)?

oh i can see the Bond influence however i just don't see Casino Royale cause it was made just before or after the games

the original Casino Royale wasn't the great piece of film and isn't really a canon Bond
