If the government told 100% truths constantly there would still be conspiracy theorists. By the very nature of conspiracy theories they are irrational. as such these nutters wouldnt believe that the govern, ment was telling the truth.
ergo, conspiracies will always be around.

As much as people would view it as a joke, that is what I think to be true.

No matter what is said, truthful or not, there will still be conspiracies out there. A minority will still believe that they're being fed lies by the government and try to reveal the "truth" for what it is, whether they're right or not. Politicians have claimed to be telling the truth for years, decades, even centuries, what difference would actually telling the truth make?

The truth might work for a person, or a small group. But people, for the most part are dumb, panicky animals.

Oh hell no! There would mostly likely be several large-scale riots and general chaos everywhere in the U.S.

In short, You can't handle the truth!

Ultimately , what is the importance? Supposing they find some memos with Bush actually linking the war in Iraq to oil demands- Half the people think that already. Hell, the military industrial complex only looks sinister because people think that's something new. The war's fought in the name of economic prosperity outweigh the numbers of just about everything else.

Which of the even vaugley realistic conspiracy theories being true would matter much at all? the Illuminati could be controlling our brains- and would not our knowledge of them doing so be futile?

Sheeple is an overrated concept. Most of us in the face of adversity do what we did yesterday because that's usually the rational thing, the safe thing. The people out on the streets are almost always the young and bored who don't have any rational thing to do otherwise.

Example: Holocaust. Germany of course experienced national guilt over the revelation of what to most was just a conspiracy theory- the mass murder of dissidents Jews, gypsies and the handicapped. But the confidence in the government remained the same, And the east Germans submitted to their Russian masters to play part in the almost as bad horrors of stalin.

Yes it was the sheeple option, but who had any choice? the ones who took the most activity where the ones who escaped to lead normal live in the west.

There will always be debate. As often as not, truth is a point of view, not a fact. For example, "Abortion is bad" is as much a truth to some people as "Pro-choice is good" is to others.

The government could tell people the truth, but they couldn't make them believe it.

I happen to think that full disclosure and/or total honesty is always the better method, in any situation.

The only time it is acceptable to withhold information is when people's lives are at risk.

People couldn't handle all the truth if it was let out at once. And some things need to be kept secret if the government-folk want to keep their jobs.

Okay maybe not the best title but whatever.

I believe that if the real truth is given that America would probably be in a better situation, think about all the bums with their conspiracy theories, if the government told us 100% truth they wouldn't be bums and there would be barley any debatable subjects on youtube. If we were told the truth we'd spend less time worrying and more time being productive members of society.

I want to know how you think your country would be better, or worse, if your government told 100% truth all the time.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crises. The great point is to bring them the real facts."
Abraham Lincoln
16th president of United States (1809 - 1865)
the biggest conspiracy in america is that the government doesnt tell you the truth and wants only harm for you.

i dont know how people come to this conclusion...

I always imagined that if I were elected president of the United States (President Parke... it does roll off the tongue you know) my first action would be to attempt to change everything about the current government.

I'd write a bill suggesting the removal of all party systems. Among other things, like immediate funding for several scientific foundations, with the threat that the funding will be taken if there are not sufficient [i\]results[/i].

But what i'd really like to do is round up all the conspiracy theorists, critics of my government, and the general outspoken populace, and bring them all in an auditorium with charts and sheets with statistics for EVERY single government resource.

I have details on every government project and operation. Just [i\]everything[/i].

Right down to a background for the bathroom attendant for the US embassy in the Maldives. (If there ain't one, I will make one.)

Then I tell them:

[i\][b\]"You are now government officials, you have been brought here because you very clearly know what is going on, more-so than me! You have access to all that you see before you, and more. Everything from the dossiers and battleplans to the fabled secret book of the President and the button that fires nukes! It goes further down, and up from there.

Now fix it! Oh, and if you don't present satsifying results, you're fired."[/b][/i]

The only problem is that many of the people are too stupid to understand the truth. Sometimes they need to be lied to.

I believe that is a direct result of this socialist view the american government seems to have adopted. Giving a populace "free" money(Bailouts, Welfare, etc.) can only lead to bad things: Dependancy, for one. I can understand a small bit of a social welfare system, but the government gravy train has to stop somewhere.
Wow, necro much?

Anyway, in response to your point: though I agree that the government may be a bit too willing to give too much help to some people in some cases, I don't think that has anything to do with people's intelligence or ability to understand what's going on with their nation.

Telling the truth most of the time is a good thing, but sometimes secrecy is better for the public, like during a war for example.

Imagine 1944 with that type of openness:
"Alright, we are going to invade Normandy at these points named Omaha, Utah, Sword, Gold and Juno on June 6. American Ranger detachments will attempt to seize the gun batteries at Point Du Hoc. Also, about five hours beforehand, the 101st, 82nd and 1st British airborne divisions will land inland attempting to capture the locations seen here (points to map). I will now be taking questions.

Some things the public should not know.

My god OP what you said so stupid it blows my mind.
Naw bro, seriously do you REALLY think that? You must be very naive or think good about your country...
If such a thing would happen, shit would go down. And do you honestly think that HONESTY is a way to go in a system where a fucking fart at the dinner table described by press can burry your entire political carrier and make you loose elections? Think twice honeyboy.
