I fell bad for the newer generation of gamers. I've been around since video games started, and have had the pleasure/pain/experience of playing, if not at least seeing, basically every game ever. Now, with all this high-falootin', hi-rez, 1080p, dual layer blu-ray gaming, most don't want to play the older games, and as such, miss out on some true gaming classics that are timeless, especially arcade games and the whole arcade experience.
Now, sure, you can find re-makes, re-hashes, re-vamps and about a million other conversions of some older classics, but you're not going to be able to truly experience, say, Robotron 2084 with that arcade feel without scoring your own cabinet and turning your garage into a dimly lit, smoky den of bleeping lights and raging midi soundtrack from dozens of different games.
As this is beyond the scope and, perhaps, price range of many younger gamers (and some older gamers, sadly), they'll probably never know the joy of sticking a quarter on that little lip under the screen to call next game. They'll probably never get the joy that comes with putting ASS as your initials for getting the high score, or the bittersweet pain of knowing that when the power goes out, it's all gone, only to lead you to try to reclaim it with renewed fervor.
And yeah, I know there are a few arcades left out there in the world (especially Japan), but the ones that remain are few and far between.
I guess what I'm getting at is this, do any of you older gamers think the kids are missing out?
And do you kids (If your first video game was played on a PS2 or later, you're a kid. Not that that's a bad thing, per se) that have never been to an arcade think it sounds like something you'd dig?
