Being English and a rather fanatical cricket fan from an early age, I am currently listening to the just-started ashes series on the radio.
For those who don't know, the ashes is the biggest rivalry in international cricket, a series of matches played between England and Australia for the Ashes urn, which contains the ashes of the bails from the first match played between England and Australia.
I'm not entirely sure why I'm stating this thread, partly because I couldn't see a similar one when I searched and want to share this great sporting occasion with the world.
So, any of you following the current series, supporting either side, have a prediction on the final outcome? Let's make this the thread for anyone wanting updates on the current series.

Update 1: 10 overs in, England 28 - 1. Strauss, the England captain, is out third ball for no runs. Not a great start but have two quality batsmen in Cook and Trott.

P.S Everyone feel free to post your own updates in addition to mine.

Okay, massive fan here too!!

Staying up till I fall asleep. Surprised by Strauss getting out -- He's been on great form recently, the captaincy really helped his confidence batting.

Big fan of Collingwood here, hope he can replay his excellent innings Down-under -- that he played last time he was there.

I, also, am a big fan of colly. He always seems to be able to play the innings we need from him, whether that's to steady the ship or to score some runs. Also, one of the best catchers of the ball I've ever seen. Strauss out is a blow, but he'll give us important innings' later in the series, he's too good a batsman not too. It was said in the build up his role as a captain is more important than his role as a batsman.

Ahlycks, I take from your comments that you are american? You said "cup of tea" so you must be a little bit english! You are in a wonderful position to follow the ashes live considering play starts at midnight in england so about 6pm where you are?

I hope you're australian! If you're english, give yourself a slap with a cricket bat and drink a cup of tea to "jerusalem"!

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why I like him.... I guess it's because i respect the amount of effort he puts into his Cricket(Due to his lack of natural talent)

He is the best catcher in the game(Excluding slip fielders and close fielders.

Strauss'll deliver, it's only a matter of time.

He's not UNtalented, though I see what you mean. He might not have the technique of someone like Bell but he gets the job done. Right now I want an innings of the future captain from Cook.

I'm definitely an Aussie, so it's ok.
Do you really think another whitewash? I reckon our squad is stronger than yours and we could just about win overall. I don't have too high hopes for the gabba but we've got alot of match winners.

You are talking to a devout Colly fan. But, yes, he does have substantial talent. He just doesn't have the complete natural ability of Pieterson or Flintoff(Nor the Natural size)

Cook? Nah, unless he gets a sudden boost from somewhere, he'll be dropped as soon as a replacement opener becomes available.

I reckon Cook is the next captain fo' sho, as they say in the ghetto (so I'm told). I think he's got real talent, he never scores quickly but that's fine in test matches. I can't see anyone else to take over from strauss. He's had to fight for his place before but he's still there and pulls out big scores when he seems to need them.
Talking of players-we-are-fans-of how about stuart broad? The next freddy flintoff as I see it. If he bulks up a bit and channels his anger he'll soon be a great strike bowler.

Update 2: England 86 - 2 at lunch. Cook on 29 and Pietersen on 23. I'm off to make a sandwich...

Oh yes, the baby-faced assassin!! He won't take over from Freddy, purely because he's a skinny little bugger in comparison to Freddy. Seriously, watch Freddy running in, then Broad. Freddy is about twice as wide in the shoulder department.

You can feel the ground tremble as Freddy thumps his foot down. Broad just bounces down -- but he's still a great bowler! He just doesn't have the Pazaz of Freddy.

Listening to it on Test Match Sofa....

Maybe the rain will save you in Melbourne or Sydney, but I can't see England winning a test.

Ya' know? I think this is going to be a very boring series, as I can't see Australia winning a test either.
