Aquila

One second guns, the next running out of the sewer. A welcome change, but the least they could've done is TELL HER TO FOLLOW. She sighed as she did so anyways, out in to the streets. Their welcome was that of gunfire, and Aquila chose to take cover and hide while they did the opposite, steal a bike.

She looked around, no one actually cared about her. Interesting. Except she smelled like shit, a bad thing to smell like in the middle of a city. She sighed, retreating to a nearby hotel. She'd have to change, burn the clothes, and spend the rest of the night bathing, then she could maybe think about trying to find the two again.

Warren & Vergil

"I like the place..." Vergil muttered to himself, looking around. Warren had pretty much resigned himself to guarding near the doorway, making sure no one followed or something. Paranoia, but practical, Vergil thought. He felt... safer, knowing there was a lookout, but he still needed to think about introducing himself. Otherwise he was probably not welcome. His eyes widened as 'Ruffles' reached the end of his story.

"Josephine Tigereye, and Elizabeth... Maribel? The girl engaged to that Dio Basilio guy. The one sending hunters after us. Those names mean anything to you?"

"Fiance of the lord of Feroxi, Dio. Dio himself is an asshole, wealthy, contacts with bandits and a fucking army, nothing that makes him too special except excess. But a few steps back- what the bloody hell happened to Lil? Why would that crazy ***** hurt her?!" He stood behind Ruffles, a look of genuine concern on his face.

Sprout took a few liberal ganders around the room hoping to get a glimpse at some woman flesh. Unfortunately, it appeared none of them were on the job quite yet. Too early it seemed.

After approaching the desk some greasy guy, likely Borelli, eventually appeared to helped them. Sprout let Lilith do all the talking.

"And after the day you two smelled like you've 'ad, I'm guessin' you could do with a 'ot shower."

Sprout laughed and nudged Lilith, "So, uh, y'all have one of 'em fancy showers in Room 3?" A knowing wink followed.

Borelli laughed and shook his head, "Sorry kid, no such luck..." He said between fits of laughter. After wiping a tear from his eye he smiled at Lilith. "Looks like you have your hands full with this one! Reminds of an old horn dog in your own ranks! Doubt I need to spell out who that is!"

His face bright red, Sprout tugged at Lilith sleeve and started for their room without saying a word.

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************

"So sorry."

Elizabeth turned around as well, quickly dressing herself in an awkward manner while covering herself up. After apologizing she felt slightly bad about the way she'd reacted. Sure, it was shocking, but he meant well. He was bringing them food after all, "It is quite alright, Father. Please, just knock next time."

"So... I take it you slept well..."

Elizabeth shrugged, "I was sleeping well enough until I was woken by these... strange noises coming from the hall outside. I don't know what it was, but it sounded like someone was in pain or something. There seemed to be a lot of laughter as well. It was all very peculiar."

****************************************************************************************************************************************************

Bennie leaned back in his seat, listening to all Ruffles had to say. Some of it came as no surprise, but once he started going on about Pixie's losing her shit and the nobles she was harboring...

Fuck, girl. What's goin' on?

"Why would that crazy ***** hurt her?!"

Bennie held a cautioning hand out towards to boy, "Whoa, whoa, slow down there kid. You don't know Meredith. Sit tight and keep your mouth shut. Grown ups are talking now." He turned his attention back towards Ruffles. "Sorry, I don't know what her connection to the Maribels might be, but...."

Just then Sammy came by and offered him an ice cold beer, "Thanks." Bennie retrieved it and took a swig before continuing. "Pixie used to talk in her sleep quite a bit. Usually when she was pretty drunk. Used to go on and on about some girl named Margaret. There were a few other names as well, but her's and 'Cherry' came up the most. Think they may have been the same person 'cause, frankly, Cherry sound's like a nickname for a stripper. Figured it was a sister or maybe a childhood friend, considering the tattoo she has." He scratched his beard in thought. "I know this is a stretch but... wasn't Dio Basilio married to a 'Margaret' Maribel before her assassination over a decade ago?"

"I know this is a stretch but... wasn't Dio Basilio married to a 'Margaret' Maribel before her assassination over a decade ago?"

"Holy shit. She actually mentioned 'Cherry' to me as well. I think you might be right, man. So now the sister of her late best friend is engaged to the," he gestured to Vergil, "by various accounts raging psychopath. Jesus."

Accepting a beer from Sammy, Ruffles popped it open and turned to face Vergil. Strange that the kid knew Lilith. No time to dwell on it now, though... "don't worry about Lilith, kid. Took care of her myself. She's healthy, happy and safe. Safer than any of us, now."

Taking a large swig of beer, he returned his attention to Bennie. "So what do you think we should do about these Banditos kidnapping our friends?"

"So, uh, y'all have one of 'em fancy showers in Room 3?"

Lilith slapped a palm to her forehead, chuckling. "Christ." All three of them shared a laugh.

"Looks like you have your hands full with this one!"

"Don't I bloody know it." She said quietly, a warm smile on her face. She thanked the man as they both headed up a small flight of stairs and across a landing that overlooked the reception area. After heading left into a corridor, they passed two other rooms before they got to theirs. Lilith unlocked the door and prepared herself for what may very well be a room more disgusting than her current clothing situation.

Lilith opened the door and was welcomed by a pleasant lemon fragrance, clean, white sheets, and not a single questionable stain to be found.

"Well, the man might himself be a little crusty, but he sure keeps a shiny whorehouse, I'll give him that." She checked the small abode, the bed was big enough for two, with enough space for less intimate sleeping positions. Good. The bathroom was also spotless, with a shower stall, basin, and toilet. No lock on the door. She frowned at that prospect. The small place was flooded by sunlight from a small window that overlooked the street to the rear of the establishment. Not a huge drop, could certainly be used as escape route if need be.

"Good, this is good." She pulled out her cigarette case and lit one up as she walked towards Sprout, flicking her lighter closed with a satisfying clink as she took a deep drag. "So kid..." She slowly breathed out a long plume of smoke, "You did good today." She placed a hand on his head, tussling his hair, a weary look in her eyes. "Real good, I'm proud of you."

Hannibal hadn't eaten in god knows how long, he didn't know what was going on and he had no idea what day it was. Without sunlight and decent food he felt like he was going crazy. Even if somehow he did finish this stupid bomb with parts he didn't have, how the hell was he going to get out of there? He was surrounded by gangsters who would kill him and take the bomb for themselves if he poked his head out for even a second.

It was during these ponderings that his worst fear was realised. Or was his worst fear scorpions? Fuck it he didn't know, but he was discovered! The shutter door opened and from a dim light a man raised his... well it wasn't a gun, what was it?

"Hanny my boy, you got my bomb ready yet?"

'oh no, oh god no not him please.'

The man ran up and slapped him hard on the back. His hand was covered in blood. "You got my brother's bomb yet?" Hannibal stuttered, unable to answer him, the man looked at the bomb and sighed. " Oh Han... Oh... What the fuck is this?" He picked up the bomb, totally unimpressed and completely offended. "Hannibal... You wasted so much time on this piece o' shit? Are you fucking serious!" At that moment a man ran up to the door and pulled out a gun, aiming it at the pair. The man swiftly threw the knife in his hand at the man, quicker than he was even able to draw.

"Jesus Christ!" Yelled Hannibal as he watched the man die.

"Christ won't save you now Hannibal. What did that pig fucker say to you huh? He told me, y'know before I paid his bail and ended his worthless ass of course, that he told you to make the bomb. Hannibal this is a god damn fire cracker!"
"I-I-I Know I-I-" fear was shooting through him now. "Mr Gunderson please, I don't know anything about che-"

"You know nothing! About! Nothing! You dumb mother fucker! Strand is gonna be very very disappointed, and when the client is disappointed, me and Noah get violently angry." He spoke eerily calm but his actions were a different matter as he backhanded Hannibal across the room and out of it. Finally he was outside of the room... but looking around he wished he was back inside. The building was full of gangsters and drug dealers fighting against Gunderson's forces. Gunfire and throwing knives were everywhere around the room. He lay on the ground as Gunderson pounced on top of him and began punching him repeatedly. "You do not fuck with my family Hanny! You fail us once and you're dead, fail us twice and you suffer before you die-"

"Grenade!"

The word came a little too slow as the grenade went over the head of Hannibal and the Gunderson brother and into the room with the bomb. "Oh shit." Were the words that came out of the mobsters mouth. He quickly got up off of Hannibal and ran to cover while Hannibal ran for the exit. The explosion from the grenade destroyed the room, but it was the bomb that caused the true damage. Totally unstable it lit a fire as it blew out the space between the room it was in and the opposite storage unit, which just so happened to contain volatile chemicals for a drug lab. Just like the rest of the building.

Hannibal, running faster than he ever had in his entire life, raced down through the building, dodging bullets all the while as drug labs exploded one by one behind him, killing and burning dozens upon dozens upon dozens of gangsters on both sides. He raced for the exit, the fire chasing him quickly behind. The end was in sight, he reached out his hands for the fire exit, feeling the heat behind him. Not stopping he slammed the door open and kept running and running and running, the building going up in flames. He didn't stop and turn to look at the carnage, he simply ran as fast as he could away from it as debris rained down into the street. He had no idea where he would go now, the Gundersons's after him and now maybe even one of Feroxi's many violent gangs. Fearful thoughts ruled his mind as his feet never once stopped running.
==================================================================
Alex entered the town hall and walked up to the conference room, where she would be attending a meeting. Sat around the large table was the mayor, a principal representing schools, a rep of the gardening committee for the garden of Yuteni, a rep for road safety and construction, a farming rep, a priest and various workers union reps.

Taking her seat she greeted the rest of the party. The Mayor was the first to speak. "First order of business, and I know all of you are going to hate this because I sure do, Sophia Yuteni," the room grumbled at the name, "yes I know, well she has decided that her airship isn't fashionable any more and instead of trading it off and making some money off of it, she is handing it down to her daughter. As such she is demanding money from our budget for her ship."

The room began shouting over each other for their case of how wrong it was. "People, people please, people!"
Alex stood up and took off her sheriff's hat, everyone immediately paid attention to her. The outfit demanded attention as a sheriff, but everyone respected her for the intelligent person as well as the badge.

"I don't want a repeat of last month's meeting, because last time we ended up all giving the Yuteni's a share from our own departments, and we suffered for it. The police department surely did. I know we would have been worse off giving our profits to him like we normally would, but at least then the rest of you wouldn't have stagnated so much like last month. Even just a third of what they normally demand, taken from each of us, is more of a blow than if one of us gives them a large, albeit undeserved, paycheck."

The mayor interrupted her but not with an insulting intention. "True as that may be sheriff it appears we may have to again in order for her to buy the ship, one department alone can't pay her, I know the police can't, nor can anyone here. We can't let one suffer or else it won't be done. We are all going to need to put in much more than usual."

"How much are we talking here?" Asked the principal.

The mayor responded, sighing heavily as he did. "It appears that... Well... We will have to pay out more than the usual 30%." He clearly did not want to continue but knew he had too. "Each of us will have to pay at least 43% of our monthly individual budgets."

The room freaked out, shouting and screaming ensued, Alex was close to joining in as her blood boiled.

"We can't pay that much!"

"No one is going to be able to even feed their kids with that kind of money.'

"The streets are gonna be ruined, we barely make enough as it is."

"Won't somebody please think of the children!"

"Enough!" Both Alex and the Mayor seemed to shout in unison. The mayor spoke first, putting her stetson back on. " Its not going to help us all shouting at each other, and not all of us will be able to pay this, so someone may have to pay up more than others in order to-"

"NO that's fucked up! If one person pays less then they'll always end up paying less!" Yelled the farmer, frothing at the mouth.

The preist spoke more calmly. "Even if they don't they may feel pressured next month to contribute more. Not just that but the church runs on a donation basis, everyone in the city losing part of their paycheck for this ship won't be able to donate enough on my part to pay, I am afraid I won't be of much help other than-"

"Then pay from your own damn pocket!" Angrily exclaimed a union rep.

"I was just about to say that!" Retorted the priest.

Alex had had enough and planted her boot firmly on the table, some turned to her in shock, others hoping she would defuse the situation. "I know how bad this is. We can all keep paying some from each of us from now on but that won't work, the city will suffer for it. I can already tell we are going to be feeling this for at least the rest of the year. So why don't we all sit down, like adults, and decide how we will pay out."

"You mean get raped by our nobles." Said another union rep sadly.

"Yeah, why don't we just not pay for a month, that'll show 'em!" The leader of the gardening committee was getting louder now.

"You know what happens if we do that!" Yelled Alex, finally losing her temper. "I'm not going to risk those man children losing their temper again and taking it out on the city. So shut up, calm down and let's talk like grown ups here. My 8 year old is more mature than you-smarter too, he knows when to negotiate."

The woman promptly shut her mouth.

"Good." Said Alex. "Now then, probably about time we started talking like people over the age of twenty."

Vergil

"Whoa, whoa, slow down there kid. You don't know Meredith. Sit tight and keep your mouth shut. Grown ups are talking now."

"'Talking' or 'fumbling around history?' I can assure you- I know more than you." Vergil said, testily but entirely unheard apparently. Annoying dick. even brought that crazy white fucker with him. Ruffles seemed to be looking at him, but Vergil doubted he was more like a pricey vase than a part of this. Sometimes glanced at and a minor talking point. Still, this allowed him to look through the files and get closer to the truth.

"-by various accounts raging psychopath. Jesus."

Vergil did a quick bow as he went rooting through his satchel, looking for the correct files. Meredith Monroe, surprisingly funny name. With Margaret Maribel. Alliteration always added appeal, at least in Boomhower. He vaguely regretted not memorizing Bennies past 'Left the Maiden,' a bit of his history might shut him up.

"Don't worry about Lilith, kid. Took care of her myself. She's healthy, happy and safe. Safer than any of us, now."

"Hm? Oh, yeah, unless she's safe in front of me without a bruise I'm going to worry. It's this thing I do. Quite rational, I think, but alas... Where did you send her off to, out of professional curiosity? Sounds like Feroxi, but I like to be sure about these things."

Ruffles gave a wry smile. The kid was liable to get popped going around talking to potentially dangerous people like that. "Ain't me sending anyone anywhere, buddy. I just fix the ship. And the Crawlers. And the coffee machine. And occasionally Lilith's vibra--" he cut himself off at the glare Vergil was giving him, grinning widely in response.

"Anyway, why the hell should I tell some random bastard I've never met before where one of our crew is, huh? You act like you know her, and hell, you sound kinda like her, but accents can be faked and you ain't the only person who's seen our roster. All we know, you could just be some kid playing bounty hunter. Or you're working for a hunter. So yeah, I ain't telling you jack-shit."

"Right to worry, if you didn't you'd be an idiot. And an idiot wouldn't impress Dr. Grey..." Vergil paused for a second, "Or something like that, at least. Vague name, neat watch." Vergil decided to take a step from the wall, looking Ruffles in the eye.

"I care about her because she's a sister to me. She left our humble little town a good 7 years ago- on the arm of our one and only Bennie here, age 33 heir to the Carmines- and I wanted to make sure she wasn't dead yet. Though, her carbon still slows in just fine at the orphanage... What better time to check on her than after a major heist turned hostage situation?" Vergil took a deep breath and looked around, not exactly making friends but so far no guns in his face.

"I'd honestly be surprised if she didn't talk about a 'Vergil' around you people, I thought I had more of an impact. Ah, well, a Lieutenant of the Alley Shadows can hardly be talked about TOO much in public." Vergil smirked, hoping his humble organization of Robin Hoods carried some weight with these people.

There was a snapping sound as Ruffles' fist clenched tight around his beer, and the glass bottle cracked. He didn't respond, but instead set the drink down, and started cleaning the fresh cut on his palm with a cloth from one of his many pockets.

Maria caught her breath after the two rather friendly bandits made off with her moped. She took deep breaths, in and out. To her surprise, a rather potent smell entered her nostrils. Maria was sure that it wasn't her, and hell, she was sure that it wasn't the alley. So, what could it be? As if to answer her question, a voice spoke from behind.

"What happened here then? Your bike got stolen or something?"

"Carajo!" She exclaimed, "Don't sneak up on me like that!"

Maria cursed herself, she had said that without thinking, said something that could have brought trouble upon her. Say that to any grizzled bandito... Well, you wouldn't be smiling after that. But as she turned around, Maria was grateful that it wasn't one of the bandit bitches who always went on about their victim's poor luck or something.

'Ash-white hair, Stetson hat, has to be her. ' She realised.

Maria blurted out an apology, then when onto answer the Gunslinger's question, "Sorry for that. Y-yeah. Or 'borrowed', at least they said they're going to give it back, but I'm not gonna hold my breath."

"Carajo!" The woman exclaimed, no doubt startled by Viola's sudden appearance. "Don't sneak up on me like that!"

"My apologies for sneaking up on you like that Miss, didn't mean to scare you." Viola said as she tipped her hat towards the woman.

"Sorry for that. Y-yeah. Or 'borrowed', at least they said they're going to give it back, but I'm not gonna hold my breath." Whilst the lady was talking, Viola had knelt down to take a closer look at the tyre tracks, or rather track, since there was only a single line, which meant it must have been a motorbike or something similar.

"Yeah, that's the problem with thieves like these, not very often do they keep their word. If they do bring it back, I doubt as though it'll be in the condition that it was when they stole it." Viola said as she stood up, taking a moment to wipe the dirt from her trousers.

"Did you happen to get a good look at them, Miss...... sorry, I never did ask your name."

Amy watched discreetly as Meredith took up her odd ritual. She was neither hurt or surprised by the Captain's complete lack of acknowledgement of her. Whores were seldom a welcome sight the morning after. Not even the Golden Rose, and not even to a woman like Meredith. Amy knew better than to approach her right now, instead finishing up her breakfast and leaving for her own cabin. The rest of the crew would be up before long, and if they were going to gawk at her, they would gawk at her showered and fully dressed.

===========================================================================================================================

The Gentleman passed Amy in the hall on his way to the galley, trusting that was where he would be most likely to find Meredith at this time, if not still in her cabin. No words passed between the two of them, only a knowing look and a discreet smile.

Upon his entrance, The Gentleman immediate spied Meredith amidst her meditations, unfortunately faced with imminent disturbance. Seeing that she already had her coffee, The Gentleman fetched tea only for himself, before going to sit opposite her.

"I apologise for the intrusion." he began, taking a sip of the Maiden's... 'unique' infusion without so much as a grimace. "However, you mentioned an exchange of information the day before, and I don't anticipate we'll have much time for idle chat later on. You're feeling well-rested, I trust?"

Bennie sat back in his seat, seemingly unphased by their exchange. He cocked a brow when he noticed Ruffles' reaction to Vergil's words. This kid was a liability. If he didn't shut his mouth soon, Bennie would have to do it for him. They had more pressing concerns anyway.

He let out a frustrated sigh, "Kid. Shut the fuck up, please. This shit ain't important right now and your making my boy here wanna pop your fucking head off. I won't repeat myself again." Bennie hardly stirred as he spoke. The threat was implied. No need to do anything but speak. Under his sunglasses, Bennie's eyes shifted over to Ruffles and Warren, "Chances are at least one of them's been left alive for questioning, but honestly, I wouldn't get your hopes up. If we want to mount a rescue we'll need intel first. No point running in there and risking more men if there's no one left alive to save."

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************

Aesop woke to a throbbing pain in his cheek. Handcuffed and his ankles tied together, he found himself lying on a cold concrete floor. A large, bald man--certainly a bandito--knelt over him, his head cocked. No words left his mouth. He simply stared in Aesop's eyes, emotionless.

****************************************************************************************************************************************************

"Real good, I'm proud of you."

Sprout grinned, "Thanks, but I reckon you were the star 'a the show. You killed the leader 'a that group'n took out like three er' four more bandits beyond that. Saw 'em on the hill when we were tryin' ta' lose that bandit girl."

Sitting on the bed, Sprout took off the layers of rags he wore and dumped them in a pile on the ground. Beyond his personal gear and the case of carbon, they were traveling extremely light. He'd have to make a run back to the crawler soon. Pulling back the curtain, Sprout looked out the window, "Where ya' reckon she went to?"

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************

Pixie could feel Amy's eyes on the back of her head, but ignored her presence. Despite being one-eyed she was incredibly sharp, especially when meditating. She didn't likely want to talk anyway. Curiosity was clearly the girl's poison and Pixie's morning ritual was a rare brand, indeed.

Eventually the girl withdrew, her presence having disturbed Pixie's meditation very little. Not too long after the Gentleman made his appearance. If he was to disturb her in such a way it was likely for a good reason.

"I apologise for the intrusion."

Sure.

"However, you mentioned an exchange of information the day before, and I don't anticipate we'll have much time for idle chat later on. You're feeling well-rested, I trust?"

Pixie didn't answer for a long time. Thankfully, the Gentleman was accustomed to her behavior and drank his tea, waiting for her eventual reply. Several slow, methodical breaths later and Pixie replied, "I reckon I am. Yer girl's good 'n the sack, Gents, but she's even better at takin' what she wants." Pixie sighed. "I don' know if she was a gift fer me 'er vice versa."

Her eye still closed, Pixie remained in her meditative position, facing away from her guest. She took a sip of her coffee and gestured at the spot on the floor directly in front of her, "Here. Sit. Ya' wanna gossip? Let's gossip."

Damn...

Lilith found herself in a predicament, would telling the kid those thugs weren't her doing achieve anything other than worrying him more than he already was? Well, she didn't have to tell him, but she didn't have to lie either.

"I guess Lady Luck finally decided to come back to me." She smiled weakly. Crossing her arms across her chest. As Sprout got changed, she leaned against the wall next to the window, her brow furrowed. After a minute or two the kid walked over and pulled the curtains further apart so he could get a good look.

"Where ya' reckon she went to?"

She slowly breathed out smoke. "If she followed us, I doubt she's made the distance we have, that's if old Sugar Tits didn't 'have a word with her' first." She thought for a second. "We'll see her again, I've got a feeling about that one. Doesn't give up easily." Whether that's a good thing, remains to be seen. A few silent moments passed before Lilith let out a defeated sigh.

"Axel, those bandits you saw back there, the ones on the hill?" Gotta be honest with the kid. "That wasn't me. Someone's watching our backs, because sure as Ruffles is is going crazy from being away from the Maiden, I'd either be dead or captured." She smiled slightly. "I'm lucky kid, but not even I can kill three guys without touching 'em."

Ruffles' gaze snapped back to Bennie. "Then the situation's pretty much the same as it was before all this shit went down. We're here to plug a leak in our intel, right? We'd still have to cast round for information plenty. All that's changed is now we got two topics to ask about. I'm second on this mission after Silo, who's currently about as useful to us as nipples on Warren over here. So this is my responsibility."

"I don' know if she was a gift fer me 'er vice versa."

The Gentleman chuckled. "Oh, as to that I could not say. Miss Turner is far more than just a mere asset. She's become something of a protege in recent years. No one lives forever, not even me, and someone has to keep on fighting the morally grey fight after I'm gone. The gears of corruption, greed and jealousy that keep this rock turning need their oil. Regardless, I may point her in the right direction from time to time, but she acts on her own initiative for her own reasons."

"Here. Sit. Ya' wanna gossip? Let's gossip."

The Gentleman politely too the seat that was offered, before motioning to Meredith.

"Well, ladies first of course."

"So what's up with you and Peter?"

"Aesop shut up nothing's going on."

"I never said anything was going on."

"I... shut up, and stop smirking. Aren't you supposed to be in school?"

"Yeah but your dad is making me do target practice. So anyway what's up with you and Peter?"

"Its none of your business Aes."

"Then how come every time I say his name you miss a shot? Its cos you liiiiiiike him isn't it?"

"Ae-"

"Its because you loooooovveee hi-"

"Aesop shut the fuck up!"

"Haha! Oh you're blushing so hard Alex."

"Aesop I swear to God your face is gonna join those bottles in a second."

"Alright alright... Alex and Peter sitting in a tree, K.I.S.S.I.N- FUCK OKAY OKAY, hahaha..."

"Just keep shooting the bottles kid."

============================================================

Pleasant dreams? That was something Aesop wasn't used to. Old dreams, nice dreams. Flashbacks would be a better word, but they came to him in vivid detail only when he was a asleep, even if they were missing aspects or had odd added ones, such is the case in a dream; like wearing different clothing and hairstyles or there being an icy tundra around the corner from a dusty dessert. He wondered why, just once he was allowed to have a nice dream in his sleep rather than the usual terror?

And then he realised. His brain was being nice.

He opened his eyes to a dimly lit room, cuffed and tied, his cheek pulsing with pain. He looked up to see a large bald bandito just... staring into his eyes? He wasn't hitting him, perhaps not any more. He wasn't taunting him. He wasn't killing him. He wasn't doing anything but standing there? What the hell was he doing?

"Axel, those bandits you saw back there, the ones on the hill? That wasn't me. Someone's watching our backs, because sure as Ruffles is is going crazy from being away from the Maiden, I'd either be dead or captured. I'm lucky kid, but not even I can kill three guys without touching 'em."

Sprout continued staring out the window, his eyes darting around the streets. It didn't appear anyone was watching them... at least not from the front of the building, "Ma' sent someone ta' look after us, I reckon. Guess she wanted ta' make sure we were safe. S'pose we are still targets, after all."

He turned away from the curtain and looked at Lilith, a small hint of concern on his face, "What do y'all reckon we do from here?"

Bennie nodded. It looked like Ruffles had grown up quite a bit since they'd last seen each other, " Okay Jake, lay it on me. Start with what we know about the situation. Lay out all the relevant facts and let's start looking at solutions." He leaned forward, a playful grin on the side of his face. "Let's see if Meredith rubbed off any of her tactical know-how on my boy."

"Well, ladies first of course."

Pixie opened her eye and greeted the Gentleman with a warm, yet stern gaze, "As y'all know, Dio's got the strongest fuckn' army in all the ashlands. I reckon we could run from 'im if he chose ta' come after us, but so far he's been sittin' on his thumb. He's send'n hunters n' insightn' the other families to take arms against us."

She sipped her coffee and held it in her lap. The Gentleman could see the cogs turns in her mind, "If he was lookn' fer revenge against me 'er the salvation of his betrothed I reckon we'd be knee deep in Feroxi soldiers right now, but that ain't his goal. Nah, he's playn' some other game. Somethin' bigger... I just don'know what yet."

Pixie gazed past her guest and stared out upon the ashlands. After a few moments of silence, she continued, "Margaret Maribel, Elizabeth's late sister... she wasn't assassinated." Pixie's eye locked onto the Gentleman's once more. Did he know this already? "She was haven' an affair 'n Dio found out. He killed 'er... murdered 'er. Dio's a monster, Gents, I don' think anyone knows what that man's capable of. I don' reckon I wanna find out either, but if anyone's gonna stop 'im it's gonna be me. It has ta' be me."

She took another sip before adding, "My bullet's the one that's gonna send 'im ta' hell."

The bandito stared at him a bit longer before signaling to someone on the other side of the door. Another man walked in, garbed in an expensive, fashionable suite. His cowboy boots sported razor-sharp spurs and he wore his black hair greased back. The man approached Aesop and looked down upon him with a mocking smile, "Do you know who I am?"

"I was sleeping well enough until I was woken by these... strange noises coming from the hall outside. I don't know what it was, but it sounded like someone was in pain or something. There seemed to be a lot of laughter as well. It was all very peculiar."

"That's usually a sign that everything's going well." Florian said between bites of bacon. He was still facing the wall.

Was she going to get changed or did he have to stay like this? It wasn't like he was an expert at noble social etiquette.

So much for some casual conversation. Hopefully neither of the noble would ask any awkward questions at least. ow long they'd have to stay here or what the maidens would end up doing with them was still up in the air. Most might have shunned the 'making it up as you go' approach bt the crew weren't exactly in a position to lay down long term plans. At least it left them with options.

"What do y'all reckon we do from here?"

Lilith squinted and rubbed the space between her eyes. She was tired, she was in pain, and she felt disgusting.

She looked up at the boy, a weak smile on her face. "I don't know Axel." There was a spark of unease in her eyes. "As for the rest of today? You're going to go grab our stuff, while I have a hot shower." She placed her hands on his shoulders. "Then you're gonna have a shower, we'll grab something to eat, and then tonight?" She grinned. "Tonight we're gonna get drunk."
