Crossing her arms as the Gentleman began speaking, Pixie gave Florian an assuring nod. She understood the two didn't get along and wanted him to feel comfortable, especially now. The Gentleman made a compelling point about Elizabeth, and if he was willing to spare the resources she'd let him send his people to watch over the young noble.

As the Gentleman stepped closer, Pixie stiffened up. Though her face was still flushed, she held herself in a far more business-like manner now. She knew then Gentleman could see through any ruse, but it was important he know that she was making an effort to pull herself together. She needed him to understand that she wouldn't let all this defeat her. Not now.

"... The details are... not exactly pretty, but this all hinges on how badly you want to see that man's head on a spike."

Pixie nodded solemnly, "I'd like ta' here this proposal as soon as---"

"Meredith! Who on The Rock is 'Chromey'?"

"Finally!" Pixie shouted as she slipped by the Gentleman and sprinted down the hall. "Thank you." She whispered to Amy as she slid the chair out, plopped down in it and clutched the mic. Carlos cocked an eye brow at the Gentleman and gestured towards the door.

"Cranston! Cranston, is'at you?! Thank fuckn' Christ, it's good ta' hear ya'!" Pixie laughed.

"-----zzzttttt----Pixie, I just got a Code: Black, what the hell are you laughing for?! Over!---zzzztttt----"

Planting her elbow on the table, Pixie cradled her forehead with the tips of her fingers, "Sorry, I just... it's been a day."

There was a short period of silence on the other end before Cranston replied, "---zzzttt---I hear ya'. What happened?---zzzzttt----"

Pixie proceeded to give Cranston a quick and dirty version of Florian's tale as well as the results of the heist and their subsequent run-in with Carlos. With the whole situation laid out before him, albeit with a few omitted details, Pixie asked the question they'd both been waiting to arrive at, "So, is it safe ta' initiate the Gjallarhorn Protocol?"

"---zzztttt----No, the rendezvous has been compromised. I've received word that one of our contacts was tortured to death in Geno Dome and spilled the beans yesterday. Unless you know of a safe alternative, it is simply too risky to meet up there.---zzzttt----"

"Fuck," Pixie cursed under her breath. Turning around in her chair, she glanced around the room and took in the inquisitive stares she was receiving. She sighed. "'Reckon there ain't no point'n keep'n it secret from y'all. Gjallarhorn Protocol is 'ar 'nuclear meltdown' solution. In the event the Maiden gets destroyed 'er taken we're ta' call on all Maidens to gather together. Consolidate ar' forces an' whatnot. Don' do much good if we don' have a safe place ta' lie low'n lick 'ar wounds."

Carlos looked around the room for a moment and then stepped forward, "I know a place."

"Yer manor in Bengali? Fuck no, Carlos, we'll stick out like'a sore thumb!"

"No, I have another place. I've made a lot of enemies in my line of work, as all of you know. As insurance, I had an underground bunker constructed out in the middle of the ashlands where no one could ever find me. It's safe, I promise." Carlos sighed heavily after making his bid. He knew it was asking a lot for them to trust him and was hoping their shared history would give him the credibility he needed.

Pixie stared at him for a moment, holding the mic under her chin. She grunted and leaned forward in her seat, "Ya' get all that, Cranston?"

"----zzztttt----Yeah. Can we trust him?----zzztttt-----"

Pixie stared into Carlos' eyes in silence as if trying to look into his soul. Carlos was a thief, a con-man. If he wanted you to think he was trustworthy he'd sure as hell do it. That in-of-itself made him dangerous, however, no one else knew him quite like Pixie did. Or rather, no one else had sway over his soul like she did. After a time, Carlos gave her a nod, "Yes... Yes, we can trust 'im."

"--------zzzzttt----Okay, I'll send the protocol out tonight along with the coordinates of the new rendezvous. Hopefully word will have reached everyone within the week. Anyway, Pixie... there's something else we have to discuss.----zzztttt------"

His tone suggested it was dire, but after everything that had happened today Pixie figured she could take anything Cranston could dish out. Grinning, Pixie sighed, "After all this there's still bad news, Chromey? Lemme guess, ya' got ass cancer?"

Cranston didn't laugh, "----zzztttt-----It's your son, Meredith. He's been shot.-----zzzzttt-----"

Pixie's sarcastic joy vanished in the blink of an eye. Turning around in her seat, she planted a hand firmly on the desk and stood up, leaning over the radio, "C-Cranston..."

"---zzzttt----He's okay, Meredith. I would have brought it up sooner if it were more serious. He's still out, but he'll make a full recovery.----zzzztttt----"

Pixie let out a drawn out sigh of relief. Though they couldn't see her face, everyone in the room knew she was still gripped by fear. Such was the fate of mothers, "An' Lilith?" She muttered.

"-----zzztttt----She's right here. Do you want to talk to her?-------zzzzttttt------"

Pixie nodded her head frantically despite Cranston not being able to see her, "Y-yes." She whispered.

**********************************************************************************************************************************************************

Lilith listened intently as Cranston and Pixie discussed their next move. Would her and Sprout be included? She'd have to find out later.

Lilith gulped as Cranston passed her the radio, what would she say? What could she say? Scratching the back of her head, she began to speak, her voice cracking. "Hi Merry, I errr..." She paused slightly, letting loose a nervous laugh. "My scarf got wrecked again."

Pixie replied with her own worried laughter, "-----zzzzttt-----It's okay, sweetheart, I'm sure Sprout'll buy ya' a new one," After a brief pause, she added. "How 'is he?-----zzzzttt-----"

Lilith thought for a second, apologies weren't going to mean anything, Meredith knew she was sorry. "He took a bullet for me, Meredith, your boy took a bullet for me." Her voice wavered slightly as she managed to hold her emotions in check.

There was a long pause on the other end before Pixie replied. Her voice sunk into her throat as she spoke, "-----zzzzttt-----That's m-my boy." Another pause, followed by a sharp inhaling noise. "Lily, t-tell me how it happened, p-please. Tell me everythin'.----zzzztttt-----"

Lilith recalled the entire morning's events, the ambush, the shootout, Sprout's wounding, her knife fight with the hunters, the female doctor, everything.

"Meredith, there's also something else I think you need to know." She bit her bottom lip. "I think Axel killed two men, pretty sure of it, by the looks of it, they were going to flank me and the dwarf. He saved me twice today, and I couldn't even kill the guy who shot him."

*******************************************************************************************************************************************************

Axel...

Pixie slumped back down into the seat and bowed her head. It wasn't suppose to happen like this. She'd sent them away to protect them from the horrors that came with the life she'd adopted. Men hunted her children. Men hurt her children, and for what?! To get to her?! It wasn't fair. They hadn't done anything wrong. This wasn't their fight.

Sprout. She'd prayed he would never have to take a life. Failing that, she had at least hoped to be there for him when the time came. But no, instead he was alone. No one was there to tell him what he'd done was the right thing. He'd had to stomach all his doubts and fears right there on the spot. And now what?! He'd wake from a near fatal wound and immediately recall the event. Sprout was too fragile for that. His heart was too... kind. He couldn't carry such a burden on his own. It would unmake him.

And Lilith. She could hear it in her voice. The fear. The anxiety. The shame. It was something she was all too familiar with. Though she'd been vague on the details, Pixie knew. Pixie understood what she'd done. No, she couldn't let it stand. She couldn't allow Lilith to walk that path.

Pixie's sobs could be heard over the radio before her weak voice eventually came through, "L-Lilith, listen to me, please. I kn-know it was hard... I know how difficult it was. The loneliness. The f-fear... but please, Lilith. Please God, Lilith... turn b-back. I---" Her words got caught in a knot in her throat before she began sobbing over the radio once more.

Carlos looked to the Gentleman, "Come on, we don't need to be here for this."

******************************************************************************************************************************************************

Lilith clenched her jaw as Meredith spilled her guts. For some inexplainable reason, hearing her cry put her own emotions on the backburner. "I didn't kill him Merry, but I hurt him, I hurt him bad. Took the fucker's eye." She clenched a hand into a fist just thinking about it.

After a time the sobbing faded, though Pixie's voice still sounded strained, "----zzzztttt---Lily, listen to me. What about the others, Lily? The other men with 'im? Did you revel in their deaths? Did Gorgon not survive due ta' yer prolongin' 'is sufferin'?! Tell me the truth, Lily!---zzzzttttt---"

Lilith knew where this conversation was heading, "I thought he was dead Merry, I thought he was gone." Her voice remained calm, "But it's okay now, Axel is going to be fine, everything will be fine." She paused for a moment. "They deserved it."

"----zzztttt----Oh God, Lilith," Pixie muttered. "Why did I send y'all away? Wh-why... how could I have been so stupid?!-------zzzttt-----" From then on it was nothing but muffled sobs coming in through the radio.

Cranston furrowed his brow and placed a hand on Lilith's shoulder, "Hey, I think it's time we let her get some rest, okay? She hasn't gotten a wink of sleep in nearly two days."

Lilith nodded her head, "Merry, Merry I've got to go now, you get some sleep, I'll take care of Axel, which I'm sure doesn't mean a lot at the moment, but I'll try anyway." She bit her bottom lip. "I love you Merry, see you soon." She handed the radio back over to Cranston, before burying her head in her hands in exasperation. Christ, why did she say all that shit? She just made things worse.

"This is why I never talk over the radio." She muttered, taking a long drag of her cigarette.

Cranston glanced at her over his shoulder before speaking into the mic, "Hey Pixie, I'll keep them both close from hear on out. Talk to you in the morning, okay?"

There was a long silence before her voice came though once more, "---zzzttt----O-okay... Pixie out.----zzzzttttt-----"

Sighing, Cranston dropped the mic onto the table carelessly before heading for the door. Pausing in the doorway, he said to Lilith, "Check on the kid. I won't be gone long."

***************************************************************************************************************************************************

Upon ending the call, Pixie collapsed on the table, burying her face in her arms. She'd gone through countless ups and downs in the past week, but not even the loss of her Maiden had distressed her to this degree. She wasn't angry, or frustrated... no, this was despair, plain and simple.

She was losing Lilith to a fate worse than death.

The Gentleman knew full well that the task he had set Agent Sandringham was not easy, and in such chaotic situation safety could never be fully guaranteed. Even so, he seethed at the thought of the failure.

"Come on, we don't need to be here for this."

"As you will." The Gentleman replied, and followed Carlos out of the room. Amy made a move to follow them, but The Gentleman gave a look that told her 'Stay.', and so she lingered on the fringes of the room

"I hope you won't take offence if I do not join you at your retreat." he said once they were clear. "This robbery has been lucrative indeed, not to mention highly enjoyable. However, while I've been here several events have been allowed to accelerate past my influence. I must attend to said issues soon, for all our sakes. It is my wish that Amy remains at Meredith's side for a while longer. For the time being, she will speak with my voice in all your joint endeavours."

===========================================================================================================================

When the call was done, Amy went and sat beside Meredith once more. For a while, neither said a word.

"How old were you, first time you killed?" Amy asked.

For the time being, she will speak with my voice in all your joint endeavours."

Carlos nodded, "I get it, you're a man with a lot on his plate. I'm sure Meredith will understand." Carlos glanced back down the hall and sighed. "That was pretty heavy stuff back there. Don't know about you but I could really use a drink. Want to throw back with me or is it time 'the Gentleman' got his beauty sleep? I don't imagine you've slept at all these past couple days."

***********************************************************************************************************************************************************

Pixie could feel Amy's presence lingering in the room as she wallowed away and chose to ignore it. She couldn't simply banish her feelings nor did she want to face her and ask Amy to leave in her current state. Eventually the tears subsided and Pixie pulled herself from the pathetic slump she'd hidden herself in. Leaning back in her chair, she grabbed a tissue off the table, blew her nose and proceeded to wipe the remaining tears off her face with her forearm. Her cheeks stung.

"How old were you, first time you killed?"

Pixie glanced over at her, red streaks painting her cheeks, "I didn' need ta' start killn' until I was seventeen. Older'n Sprout an' certainly older 'an when you started, I reckon. My first time was," She sighed. "It was cathartic." She laughed, though there was no joy in it. "I remember say'n ta' Susan when I got back that he, 'deserved it' an' that I was, 'doin' the world a favor'. She didn' buy that fer a second, she didn'."

Still trembling, Pixie started rubbing her arms nervously, "I didn' pay 'er any mind though an' I kept killin'. Wasn' long after that that I started enjoyin' it, regardless as ta' who the poor bastard was at the end 'a my blade. I didn' kill innocence, no, but I took the lives 'a plenty like me. People hurtin' others just to get by. Just ta' survive.

I didn' wan' that kinda life fer them, Amy. I didn'. There's nothin' down that road but pain n' sufferin'. I don' blame the girl fer losin' it like that. I don'. Axel is 'er best friend in the whole world. But," Pixie grasped Amy wrist. "How can I protect 'em from this world, Amy?! Where do I send 'em? Who do I have ta' kill ta' make sure they're safe?!" Casting her gaze downwards, she couldn't look her in the eye any longer. "They're all I got, Amy."

"Check on the kid. I won't be gone long."

Her head still in her hands, Lilith let loose an exasperated moan, "Okay." She muttered. Her entire body was aching, as she pushed herself off the bed, she burned her cigarette to the filter before stubbing it out.

"Damn it, Meredith." She smiled weakly as she started for the door. Pausing, she straightened as she turned around. Sauntering back over to the bed, she got to her knees and lifted the mattress, pulling out the case of carbon. Opening it, she removed a single bullion bar. Closing the case she paused for a second before reopening it and removing a second. Hiding the case once again, Lilith got to her feet and wrapped the bars in her ruined blood soaked shirt and made her way back downstairs.

As she got to the bottom of the stairs, she noticed that the bar had been cordoned off. They'd have to move Axel soon, they'd already caused enough trouble for this place. As she stepped over the rope, she found that Axel had been moved onto a mattress on the floor, certainly a lot more comfortable than the table.

Making her way over to the doctor, she turned to acknowledge her. Lilith smiled, albeit it a tired one, the day had taken it's toll on her. "I want you to have this." She passed the woman her ruined shirt. Before she had time to respond, Lilith sank to her knees next to the boy, sitting crossed legged, she reached out and grabbed his fingers with both hands, resting them on her knee.

. "And fuck that shit, man. I trust you. You're my buddy. Seriously, one of my best. So stop this self loathing, sadomasochistic psychotic bullshit. It's killing me watching you like this!"

Aesop's skin shook. His arms shivering. Was it wrong to be like this? After all the irresponsible shit he had done, could he just move past it? Should he just move past it.

Yes he could. 'And I already know how.'

"You know you're right. All this self pity bullshit, its wrong." His tongue clicked as he nodded. "I was right about one thing, I have been useless ever since I got on the Maiden. I mean, how many times have I freaked out, got upset, blamed myself, got mad at myself for being upset and," he began chuckling, "just been generally useless over the past year. Well!" He grinned wickedly, "I am happy top announce that I am no longer useless! You wanna see my handiwork?" Aesop had a sickening, twisted smile as he posed like some kind of children's television presenter.

Hannibal kept his hands up, terrified the whole time, despite the man's words. The ashlands were full of liars and thieves and sick twisted psychopaths; their main game was pretending to be good people. Even when he lowered his gun he kept his hands up. "There's no need for that fear, kid. It'll only get you killed out here. Stick close to her, will you?

'But all fear's done is save me?'

"Thank you." Viola said as they lowered their hands at the same time.

"We may as well head back to the hotel then, and wait."

They set off towards her hotel when Hannibal finally had the courage to speak again after so long of silence.

"I... what are we involved in Miss Greaves? Dio Basilio and Pixie... I know those names. I heard what happened. Who are you hunting? Ms Pixie or Mr Basilo... and who is Sprout and Lilith and... compared to the Gunderson's this is huge! What are we getting involved in?" His confusion was evident even more than fear.

Dum-dum-dum-dum....Dum-dum-dum-dum...Dum-dum-dum-dum.

"Do you have to keep doing that?"

"I don't have to do it at all."

Dum-dum-dum-dum... Dum-dum-dum-dum... Dum-dum-dum-dum.

Erik bristled as Vasa kept on drumming his fingers against the handle of his cane. Erik was on bodyguard duty today as he'd assembled a selection of his preferred guys while the other lieutenants had set about making sure their people were doing what they needed to be. The plain clothes folks were in place and armed properly. The meeting area was being patrolled by others in the family colours and the room was prepped properly.

It wasn't long to go now either. Both he and Vasa were tense, neither of them said anything of course, both of them held it in deep. It was that kind of thing that kept you sharp. Better on edge than dead.

"Everything's ready, I can still call in some extra guns if you want to make a show of things."

"Keep them on standby, they wont dare make a move at this point. They need this peace more than we do."
***
His gun was gone. The collar was too and his coat was shredded but they could be replaced. What was important was that the pistol was gone. Florian's beautiful, one of a kind, Cука.

He knew he should have felt lucky to be alive and that his own pain was still but a fraction compared to what the captain was going through. But it was Cука. She'd been with him as long as he could remember. There probably wasn't an original piece left on her, bar the grip. The idea of her being gone, that he could never get her back... it left an ache. Like his last little vestige of home had been ripped away.

I was supposed to be the one to lay her to rest. If God had any kindness left in him then she'd be lost beneath the ash forever. Those insane children may have already been rummaging through the few personal things he'd kept locked in the box beneath his bed but the thought of one of them handling Cука was enough to turn Florian's stomach. They wouldn't even know how to treat her!

Florian had to push the moping from his mind. He had to be proactive, he had to act. Now more than ever. But what could he do to help, what good was a priest to them at a time like this? Florian reached up to his throat, it was feeling the air for the first time in a while. The two big symbols of his life had both been rushed away in a hail of ash and bullets.

Good thing I've never been one for symbolism. He thought bitterly. Everything was so up in the air, they all needed an anchor right now.

"Is there anything else?"

Tsubaki was about to respond with a simple 'no', until Bryan added.

"... if not, and unless ya want me to show ya the rather nice confession booth they got here, we ought to head back."

Under normal circumstances Tsubaki would have disciplined him for such a remark, but not this time. The uncertainty of the mission had shook him, she could tell. She shared his concern, after all. In light of the situation, she chose to humor him, "If only you could be so lucky, O'Laffery. Come on, let's head back. There's still much to do before we go live." She allowed herself a small smirk as she descended down the stairs once more.

*******************************************************************************************************************************************************

Elizabeth sat in the corner of the office, slouched over with her hands on her knees. She didn't have something to keep her busy like Eddie did, unfortunately. The wait felt like an eternity. Eventually, an older fellow appeared, listed off his credentials and gave her a quick inspection before looking to Eddie, "Could you excuse us for a moment? The Lady requires a thorough examination."

Elizabeth blushed, looking away from both men. The old doctor's hands were cold and clammy. Hopefully this wouldn't take long.

Bryan shrugged and followed her. "Alright then, let's be off. I wanna get outta the fucken cold."

========================================

Eddie had just finished reassembling his gun when the door opened. He blanked out at the man's list of qualifications, but then, "Could you excuse us for a moment? The Lady requires a thorough examination."

Getting to his feet, he nodded. "Alright, sure." Once outside, he leaned against the wall idly. Funny that Elizabeth, to the best of his knowledge, hadn't sustained any injury. At best, she was just very haggard, and yet of course they looked at her first. Eddie had gotten into an all out brawl with one of the few men on the Rock notably larger than himself, but apparently he could wait. It wasn't that he wanted some fancy Noble employed doctor telling him to turn his head and cough, but it was faintly amusing the way these people prioritized things.

"I am happy top announce that I am no longer useless! You wanna see my handiwork?"

Ruffles scowled. "What, you're gonna open that door and show me some mutilated corpse?"

Hannibal asked, breaking the long silenced that followed them.

"Well my original intention was to hunt down Pixie for Lord Basilio, though this recent incident has changed the game plan somewhat; for the moment I'm not hunting anyone. And your right Hannibal, but this isn't just going to be huge, this is going to be a major league operation, especially someone of Basilio's caliber being one of the key players." Viola responded with as they carried on walking towards their hotel.

"As for who Sprout and Lilith are, I reckon like that gentleman who we was talking to, they are also members of the Maidens; quite a prolific group of Bandits; through some rumours I've heard, unlike other Bandits, they kinda of give a damn about those less fortunate."

"What, you're gonna open that door and show me some mutilated corpse?"

"He fucking deserved it and you know he did!" Aesop shouted pointing his finger at Ruffles. "That man was a fucking animal, the god damn Devil, and we've done the whole rock a fucking favour by killing him- no I did! Me! I was of use Ruffles!" Aesop grinned like a little boy. "I finally found something I'm good at. Killing animals."

"through some rumours I've heard, unlike other Bandits, they kinda of give a damn about those less fortunate."

"Yes, I-I know who they are. I um... nothing nevermind. Will we be helping them then? I mean um, that man if he is a Maiden, he didn't seem so bad. We should probably help them." Something in Hannibal's voice seemed... excited? Something different than before, much different to the shaking mess earlier when Viola had put her arm around him. The young man clearly had an unstable mind but he seemed, for once, not completely lost.

"Oh, I'm fine." The Gentleman replied. "And I will drink with you, provided the drink in question is single malt and I don't have to look on another bloody cigar all night."

Any leaned in closer, putting a supportive hand on Meredith's shoulder.

"Meredith, I won't pretend to know all the answers. I don't believe that this ever truly ends, but right now, I know exactly who we need to kill to keep the people we care about safe; and we'll do it, together."

Elizabeth's mind had wandered far from the Rock as the old doctor's frigid hands prodded and probed her body. Though stripping naked seemed a tad unnecessary, he was a professional. The bottoms of her bare-feet absorbed the cool air from the tile floor as she stood there in the center of the room in nothing but her undergarments. The doctor had disappeared out into the hall to dispose of her blood-soaked cloths and retrieve a change of cloths. It had been awhile since they'd arrived and she had yet to hear a peep from the Tigereyes. Would they grant her an audience, or...

Just then the doctor had arrived with a clean change of cloths. They were simple, common garments, but they would have to do, "Thank you." She muttered. Having not found anything that required mending, the doctor sent her out to retrieve Eddie. She found him looking rather bored, outside of the office. "The doctor will see you now."

***********************************************************************************************************************************************************

Carlos and the Gentleman sat down at the small, round table near Florian's bed. Placing two glasses on the table, he poured the two of them old wine he'd found in the kitchen, "50 years old. I reckon this drink is as refined as you?" Carlos laughed. Looking at Florian he frowned. "It's a shame you're lord hates fun!" He joked. "I'd love to share a drink with you as well."

Holding his glass up he whispered, "Cheers," Before taking a sip.

**********************************************************************************************************************************************************

A shiver shot down Pixie's spine as Amy placed a hand on her shoulder. A few moments later, however, she leaned in and rested her head on Amy's shoulder.

"Meredith, I won't pretend to know all the answers. I don't believe that this ever truly ends, but right now, I know exactly who we need to kill to keep the people we care about safe; and we'll do it, together."

"Thank you," Pixie whispered. "Thank you." She repeated as she started dozing off. After a few seconds she snapped herself out of her groggy state and withdrew from Amy. She was a wreck. Her body was sore, her head was pounding and her sinuses were overwhelmed. If it were not for her fatigue she wouldn't sleep tonight. There was just simply too much on her mind. Too much to worry about.

Rubbing her eye with her palm, she chuckled, "I reckon I could use'a bit'a shuteye." Getting to her feet, she started for the door before stopping and looking over her shoulder. "I don' wanna make y'all do nothin' you don' want to, but ya' think..." She paused for a moment. She knew the request was rather... pathetic, but couldn't help asking. "I know it's selfish, but I don' really wanna be alone tonight." She gave Amy a weak smile with 'shame' written all over it.

She hadn't felt this alone in a long time.

Warren

Warren hadn't had this much fun in a long time...

His smile grew as he stomped down on the head of another bandito, a sickening CRACK filling the air. He'd run out of ammo around his 4th kill, he'd resorted to something a bit more personal since. He picked a gun up off the ground, firing into someone's rather thin cover, slowly approaching with the mad gleam in his eye. A man burst through the door with an ax, Warren continued the step, barely dodging the swing. He turned around, his fingers found his eye socket and dug in quickly, bringing the man to his knees.

He brought the man up, allowing his body to take the bullet. Oh so many bandits, needed to kill more, kill, GODDAMN MURDER THEM. He tossed the body aside, charging the gunman and tackling him to the ground while he struggled with a revolver in panic. He pinned him to the ground with his weight, digging his knuckles into the mans temples, rearing back and punching again and again and again until nothing but red smear remained. Skulls were for winners. He'd cleared out this wing of the estate, no noise. Everything was ringing in his ears, his smile grew even wider...

Why would he ever want to give this up?

He wiped his eyes, he felt tired. His hands hurt like hell, and were covered in crimson. He had no idea how many he'd actually killed, but he did know that he had a meat cleaver at some point in the rampage. He couldn't find where the blade was embedded, probably for the best. He stumbled to his feet, he wasn't done here. He just needed another weapon, then his second wind. He looked around the room, only a revolver, an ax, and a shotgun... They'd have their uses. He grinned as he trudged onward, to continue his work.

Vergil

"Hey, kid. Do you read me? This is Carmine. What's your position? Over."

"Breaking radio silence? Guess that means we're winning, at least... Yeah, I'm here. Got a Prisoner, your good friend Randy. Over." Vergil had heard a lot of gunfire, he didn't know what was going on. He assumed a stubborn soldier, and that he was an idiot for not running when he had the chance earlier.

"So, that other guy live? Prisoner we're rescuing? Bearded, crazy eyes?"

"Cheers,"

"Cheers!" The Gentleman offered jovially, before taking a sip of his own.

"So," he asked "how do you plan on breaking the news to this client of yours that we stole all his money and killed his men?"

"I know it's selfish, but I don' really wanna be alone tonight."

Amy returned a smile, small in nature as well but far stronger, before rising from her seat and gliding over to where the captain stood. Cupping her face in her right hand, Amy delivered a small, soft kiss to Meredith's other cheek.

"I'm here for whatever you need from me Meredith."

"So, that other guy live? Prisoner we're rescuing? Bearded, crazy eyes?"

Bennie glanced at Aesop from over his shoulder one last time before proceeding around the corner, "Yeah, he's alive. A few screws loose but he's alive. Think I am coming on you right now. Over!" Bennie said as he kicked down a nearby door, shotgun at the ready. The kid nearly jumped out of his skin and Randy...

Dumb mother fucker.

Randy shook his head frantically and dislodged that gag from his mouth, "Oh, FUCK! GET AWAY FROM ME CARMINE! GET BACK OR---" Randy's frantic cries were cut short as Bennie delivered a savage blow to the face with the butt of his shotgun.

"Or you'll what, you backstabbing piece of shit?!" He shouted at the unconscious man before spitting on him. Kneeling down, Benne lifted him over his shoulder with one hand. Blood was oozing out his mouth and onto the back of Bennie's shirt. Whatever, his shirt had already been ruined during the fight with Jorge earlier. Looking to Vergil, Bennie grin. "You did good, kid. Now come with me. It's time we fucked off." Reaching over Randy's thin frame, Bennie fingered the radio attached to his shoulder strap holster. "Alright kids, we've got the rat! Let's get the fuck outta here! Over!"

"---zzzzttt----Roger!----zzzztttt-----" Cameron barked.

Bennie led Vergil back to Aesop and Ruffles, "LET'S MOVE!"

"How do you plan on breaking the news to this client of yours that we stole all his money and killed his men?"

Carlos shrugged, "I suppose I will tell him precisely what happened... to a point. Instead of joining you I cowered inside one of our vans until you left. He hired me to break into the place, not fight anyone." He smirked. "He'll forget about me as soon as he finds out you were behind it, and he will. I'm sure there isn't much of a point in saying this but... tread carefully from here on out." After sipping more of his wine, he laughed. "I'll talk with Meredith about it tomorrow. If she wants me to, I will tell you everything I know."

"I'm here for whatever you need from me Meredith."

Pixie furrowed her brow. Even now, trapped in a maelstrom of personal doubts and fears, she couldn't help but question Amy's motives. Did she really care, or was she still working Pixie? She wanted to ask Amy if she actually wanted to come along, but she knew better. Whether she did or not, she'd say whatever it was Pixie wanted to hear. Instead, she gave Amy a subtle nod and led her down the hall by the hand.

Stopping in the threshold of the Gentleman's room, Pixie clasped a hand around the door-frame, "We're turnin' in fer the night. I suggest y'all do the same. We gotta a lotta werk ahead a' us." Looking to Florian she added. "You too, Florian." Her voice was softer than he was used to.

Carlos jovial attitude was replaced by a worried frown, "Take it easy, Meredith. You look like hell." He added with a small chuckle.

Pixie nodded and replied with her own weak giggle, "I will. Good night." With that, her and Amy retreated to their room. Though there had been two beds, they opted to share one. The lights off, Pixie staggered into the bathroom to splash some much needed fresh water onto her face. After drying off, she stripped down to nothing but panties and crawled into bed, under the hand-knitted blanket. Amy joined her soon after and the two coiled around one another.

Resting her forehead against Amy's chest, Pixie whispered, "Thank you." After a period of silence, she spoke again... though this time it sounded as if she were already half asleep. "Amy, did ya' ever have a mother?" There was a brief pause before she added. "I never did."

Tsubaki and Jun had made it to the top of the bell tower easily enough. Jun's rifle already assembled, he scanned the street while Tsubaki looked for Asad and Bryan's positions through binoculars. The nobles should have been heading down the street any minute now. The meeting was to start in five minutes.

"Spunk. Harvey. In position?" She whispered into her radio. She hadn't pick those codenames, that was for sure.

"Spunk. Harvey. In position?"

"This is Spunk. I am in position, Sexy," replied Bryan, adjusting the swords strapped to his back. "Does Grump have eyes on the target? Over."

Ruffles was about to reply to Aesop when Bennie came around the corner.

"LET'S MOVE!"

"Yeah man, let's go," he replied and sped off towards the front door. As they moved, he made introductions. "Aesop, this is Bennie Carmine. Pixie's ex, and all around badass dude. The other guy's some kid who turned up outta nowhere. Think he knows Lilith or some shit. You two, this is Aesop, the bearded wonder, who was considerably more friendly last I saw him."

"The doctor will see you now."

"Fantastic," replied Eddie with a touch of sarcasm. Filing past her, he went into the room. "Not to do your job for ya, doc, but I'm covered head to toe in bruising, and'll probably be patched purple and yellow for a month. That's about it. But in the name of being thorough..."

Whipping off his belt, Eddie grabbed hold of his jeans and slammed them down with his underwear. "Time for the yearly physical."

"tread carefully from here on out."

'which would be so much easier if I knew who exactly I was treading around' The Gentleman thought sourly, showing nothing on his face 'You talk a good game about being Meredith's man, but you're oh so sly when it comes to revealing any information you have that might actually be of use to us.'

"If she wants me to, I will tell you everything I know."

"I'll be sure to remind her to ask nicely."

It was at that moment that Pixie made an appearance in the doorway, Amy not far behind her.

We gotta a lotta werk ahead a' us."

"Indeed." The Gentleman said, finishing his drink. "I'm sorry to say that I must depart from your company sirs."

As they nestled in together, Amy took note of a thousand little details, of the way Meredith positioned herself. With a natural ease Amy gently tested a dozen different areas of body contact, checking in a split second how Meredith responded to each one. By being attuned to these things, she was able to be exactly what she needed. Explaining it in such a manner always sounded so cynical though, and perhaps it was. However, for some reason Amy never saw it that way. Of all the things that one might hate about the life she led, of all the things that might feel degrading or vile, the ability to touch another's soul on such a level was a rare privilege, and Amy took pride in her ability to make people feel better, in any way she chose. It was what made her more than just a whore, a piece of meat for other people to use at their leisure. She only wished there were another who could give her the same feeling that she gave to others.

"I never did."

Meredith sounded as if she was almost asleep already, and for a moment Amy debated if she could get away with not answering.

'I suspect I did... at some point.'

She didn't want to think about it. She didn't even want to get close to the subject, but neither could she ignore Meredith.

"My mother died in childbirth." she told her. For all Amy knew, it might even have been true.

"I want you to have this."

First there was the hug, second came the hand on the shoulder from that old guy, and now there was this. Two bars of pure carbon. Easily the most she'd ever been paid, easily more than she would have charged. Goddamnit, the whole thing about making people pay to be healed wasn't especially moral to begin with, but she needed to take care of herself. A doctor too weak to do anyway wouldn't be good to anyone. Still, this amount was just... exessive. Maria was taken aback by her gratitude, however, that wouldn't stop her from continuing to watch over Axel, or from continuing to make sure that everyone was neat and tidy. Even so, she couldn't help but shed a tear for the ex-bandit. Maybe it was just the mood in the room at the time. Maybe. Maria moved from the injured boy's side to the blond girl. The doctor leant forward slightly, with an awkward smile - one that tried to say, "everything is okay now, don't cry."

"Do you know when that guy is going be back? Could use his help in moving this guy to a safer place." She asked.

Five minutes, that's all he had to wait. With one closed, Jun looked through the sight of his sniper rifle, making quick notes about the conditions. Thank heavens the designers of the optical scope had kept things simple when it came to the reticle: the rangefinder was below the line of short dashes that was the scale of deflection corrections and to the side of the rangefinder was four chevrons - which made up the bullet drop compensator - each for a different range. Just measure the target on the rangefinder and then aim using the appropriate chevron. That simple. Better than any mil-dot reticles out there. Jun breathed in and out calmly, taking in the icy air. He let the coldness run through him. The soldier stood ready, target in sight.

"Yes, I-I know who they are. I um... nothing nevermind. Will we be helping them then? I mean um, that man if he is a Maiden, he didn't seem so bad. We should probably help them." Hannibal said, his voice sounding more... upbeat? Yes, that was the word. He seemed more upbeat than his usual timid and reserved self.

"Well someone seems a lot more chipper. As for whether or not we will be helping them, I have a feeling we will, but I'm going to hear them out first before making anything permanent. Right now though, there isn't exactly a whole lot we can do, except sit around and wait."

"Anything you want to do to pass the time Hannibal?" Asked Viola as they were in a couple of blocks from their hotel.

"This is Spunk. I am in position, Sexy,"

Tsubaki face-palmed dramatically.

He's no longer allowed to assign codenames. Ever.

"Does Grump have eyes on the target? Over."

Glancing over at Jun, they exchanged nods, "Roger. Target in sight. Over." Taking her thumb off the radio she whispered to him. "You got this."

Elizabeth turned her head and watched as Eddie entered the room.

"Time for the yearly physical."

"MERCY!" Elizabeth screamed, holding a hand to her mouth as she spun around and closed her eyes. She'd never blushed so hard in her life. The doctor shook his head and swiftly closed the door behind them. "That... MAN!" Elizabeth scoffed in frustration as she took a seat by the door.

With nothing better to do she began examining the garments she was given. At first glance they looked like commoner cloths, but upon closer inspection she could tell they were expertly knitted. A flowery pattern ran up the lengths of both sleeves on the white blouse. Whose shirt was this?

Just then a well dressed, older gentleman appeared before her. He looked to be a servant of the tower, "Lady Maribel?"

"Y-yes?" She asked, simply.

The man looked sad, "I regret to inform you, but you are not being granted an audience with the Tigereyes."

Elizabeth stood up, her eyes wide and her hands balled into fists, "W-what? Why not?"

"They would not say," The man couldn't look her in the eye. "I am sorry M'lady, but they have instructed me to see you and your companion out."

"They're kicking us out!?" Elizabeth raised her voice.

"I'm sorry for your loss M'lady," He remarked with a bow. "I will return shortly."

Elizabeth stood there, motionless for awhile before sinking back into her chair. Was this it? They'd just... kick her out? After all she'd gone through with their daughter? Clutching the bottom of her blouse, Elizabeth began trembling.

It wasn't fair.

"I'm sorry to say that I must depart from your company sirs."

Carlos toasted him again and nodded, "Good night, my friend." Turning to Florian he smiled. "Weird guy, eh?"

"My mother died in childbirth."

"I'm sorry," Pixie whispered, her consciousness fading. "Bein' a mother... it's hard. The closest thin' I had to a ma' was the hag at the orphanage, Ol' Nan." She pulled herself in closer, resting her cheek over Amy's heart; their legs intertwined. "She used ta' beat us night n' day. Always said it was fer 'ar benefit. I know it was bullshit, but I dunno. Maybe she really did care 'bout us, you know? She was fucked up, but I reckon she didn' do 'er job fer the shit pay. Maybe she was jus' weak an' didn' know how else ta' deal with the shit life threw at 'er 'sides drinkn' and whippin' kids. If thin's were different... maybe she coulda been a good mother."

Pixie grunted in amusement, "Hell, d-don' mind---" She yawned. "M-mind me. I dunno what I'm ev-ven... s-sayin' anymore..." Moments later she was sound asleep. Her dead eye shut and pressed against Amy's chest.

After everything that had happened today, was it even possible for Pixie to sleep peacefully? Would she be tormented by her fears in her sleep or would she be able to escape into some illusion of happiness... if not for a short time, at least?
