There was a four way bidding war for the rights to this? I could understand one guy with a dream and ability to make money for it, but four companies thinking they could do it?
Further proof that Hollywood is nothing more than idiot suits with way too much money.

"The movie rights to a 30 year old game are up for bids?! The nostalgia factor is going to be through the roof for that!!! Put in an offer of $12 mil!"

It's been done.

It was called "Armaegeddon."

And it was awful.
On the bright side we got to watch Bruce Willis die.
On the other hand we only got to see Bruce Willis die.
"When Bruce Willis was dead at the end of Armageddon I jizzed in my pants..." No? Oh... Ok.

On topic, I'm beginning to wonder if the hype surrounding terrible films actually generates enough money itself to make the film worthwhile. I mean, the proposterous justification of this film will create a lot of hype and speculation. They could put the old Asteroids arcade demo play up on screen for 90 minutes and it would still generate a few hundred thousand...! Hell, if that's what they do, I'll go and see it!

It amazes me that someone thought Asteroids was a more filmable game than something like oh say, Sinistar

But then again I guess we haven't had enough disaster movies featuring giant rocks from space yet.
