In a mystical time known as the 80's, it was discovered that the Marvel and DC universes both had an entity that controlled said universe. Then they became aware of each other and became best frie- oh wait, no, they decided to see who had better heroes by dueling to the death.
Each fight was between one DC and one Marvel hero with fans voting for who would win. In the end it was a tie so for a short time the universes got jiggy with it making Amalgam Comics. Right there is Dark Claw but there were weirder combos (Punisher+Howard the Duck). Now you know.
