Spoiler!
In Chuck Pahlnuik's book Haunted, one of the last stories is about a real and literal Heaven discovered on Venus. Everything is perfect there, like an modern Eden. But the only way to get there is to die, as the spaceship that was sent there crash-landed, and the dead crew used the transmission equipment to communicate with earth. Every dead person on earth is there, even those who shouldn't be. The rub is that it gets better the more people are there, so it was Hell in prehistory. So the population of earth decides "why wait?" and begin suicide en masse. The astronauts say say it will only be perfect once everyone is there, and new people make things worse, so world governments begin forcibly killing those who won't go. Then only the death squads are left to kill themselves. One family is suffocating itself in the family minivan in the garage, but a little girl falls out because her door opens. She wanders the earth alone, until she notices the TVs are still on...and the transmissions are repeating. Then the transmissions change...to a shot from the outside of the crashed shuttle, showing Venus as the dead volcanic landscape it is. The transmissions were a lie.
