Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson

Best book I've ever read and best of the entire series The Malazan Books of the Fallen. Which is really hard to choose a favourite from.

I did pick up a cheap copy of Don Quixote today though, one which seems to be a really good, recent translation. Charity shops are awesome
Oh man, it's so hard to pick a favorite, but I think Deadhouse might be it - the cohesiveness of Coltaine's story and the way the whole tale played out was amazing, and this is also the book that pretty much sets up the rest of the future events in the series. It puts so many of the major players in place for what is coming. I need to finish that series... or at least what's available. And then read Esselmont's books.

Nevertheless, probably the best book I own would either be Catch-22 or Pratchett's Small Gods. Both have been read so much I've gotten second copies.

I'm in a humorous mood at the moment so I'm going to have to go with A Confederacy of Dunces [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Confederacy_of_Dunces] by John Kennedy Toole. It's quite simply the funniest book ever written and I'm rather disappointed no one else has mentioned it. Other books I might choose depending on my mood include The Two Towers, 1984, Through the Looking Glass, Breaking Dawn, Speaker for the Dead and The Count of Monte Cristo.
I'm sorry sir, but did you just list Speaker for the Dead and Breaking Dawn in the same sentence?

I have many owned books which, admittedly, most either suck or are average.

But seeing as how it was over 400 pages long, costs around $13 dollars, and really had me interested in reading the whole damn thing, I'd say Halo: Evolutions.

Because unlike the Halo video games, Halo books are actually interesting.

On a side note,

Lego Book and Eisenhorn look awhsum.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

The back reads "...Complete with romance, heartbreak, sword fights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read." And the Author Bio reads "Jane Austen is the author of Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion, Mansfield Park, and other masterpieces of English literature. Seth Graham-Smith once took a class in English literature. He lives in Los Angeles."

Either that, or this:

Define 'best'. If you're referring to how important a book is for the world/society, I'd have to go with Plato's collected works on "The Republic". Else it's either LOTR/The Hobbit, The Silmarillion or one of the three Bourne (Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum) books.

I'd have to say it'd be my boxed set of The Lord of the Rings that my parents gave to me when I was 8. Can't find a picture online of the pretty red box, but it was the edition with gold strips around the top and bottom of the cover, with runes on them. I have the Hobbit and Silmarillion in the same edition too, so they look nice on the bookshelf.

My big, battered, unabridged copy of The Stand. I love that book and consider it to be one of the greatest things I have ever read.
