The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
V for Vendetta - Alan Moore
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas / The Great Shark Hunt - Hunter S. Thompson
Trainspotting / Porno / Crime / Filth - Irvine Welsh
Quite Ugly One Morning / Country of the Blind / A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil - Christopher Brookmyre

I would recommend all of the above, i would not say they are all great works but i found all of them an interesting or entertaining read

I'm a big fan of the late Michael Crichton, creator or E.R. and author of Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain among many others. His techno-thrillers were by far better than anything else I have read. I also recommend Mike Resnick: he is a master of both Science Fiction and Comedy and he has some of the best short stories out there. Check out his Kirinyaga series.

Most of Chuck Pahlahniuk's books are good, Diary and Lullaby are good examples. Vonnegut's books are all great. Here's a link for House of Leaves.

My favorite books by themselves would be Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead. I didn't really like Xenocide that much, hence why it doesn't win my "Best Book Series" award.

My favorite book series is, hands down, the Belgariad. =) Although, and I know I'm going to get flamed for this, the Harry Potter series is a very close second.

Robert Jordons mind blowing epic series, if you are an avid reader you have to check his wheel of time series. (Current Totals: pages: 10,508 Chapters: 528 Words: 3,430,682) i am almost ashamed to say i have read this series 4 times...until i remember how awsome each of those times were.

and on another note George r.r Martins, A Song of Fire and Ice is really good to.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is the best fantasy novel I have read in my life. Everyone who loves fantasy should read it. And his blog is pretty good too. http://patrickrothfuss.com/blog/blog.html
