Time to look on the brighter side of things. Fans of stuff can get pretty unruly, but let us remember the good times we've had with our fellow fans

Like that time you met that special someone at Sakura-con, or when you and your best friend sold your kidneys for tickets to the big game, or when you got the entire tf2 server to sing Bon Jovi.

Personally, my favorite fanbase is the homestuck fanbase. The walls of text seem to filter out most, uh, less than reputable persons, so their forums aren't soul damaging to read through.

And they can make some damn good music.

No such thing.

It's like choosing between being kicked in the balls and having your tonails removed with pliers.

Mount and Blade has an awesome fanbase. Especially with the clans who get together and do line battles and all fall into their roles. It's really impressive that they're all supportive and actually care about what they're doing.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Vindictus fanbase. I can't really recall any instances of someone trolling up a storm or anything (well, except maybe in the general chat, but psh who uses that?). And people going AFK hasn't really been a problem either.

Hahaha... this made me laugh, but after trying to think of a good fanbase I know, I realized you're pretty much right.

Ummmmm... The Demon's Souls fanbase is pretty friendly. In-game, it's not uncommon for people to bow to you before dueling. Lots of advice and support on the wikidot, with the stipulation being that they treat the handful of people that run the site as gods and anyone who opposes them will be harassed and banned... hahaha so it isn't perfect but it isn't bad either.

Fatal Frame

I've yet to see anyone say they hated fans of Fatal Frame, nor have I seen any rule 34 thrown around concerning the game. Which is amazing when all four games have meek Japanese girls as their protagonists. I've also never seen a thread about Fatal Frame which was off-topic. They actually talk about the series.

Pretty much this. In fact, I think I'd rather endure both those things at the same time then hang out with the fanbase of pretty much anything.

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines; by extension any game that would be hideously outdated and/or unplayable if not for fan-made mods and patches. Infinity Engine games get a special mention for the same reason too.

If you ignore the massive fanboy war by the two man fan-modders, than yeah.

Otherwise, they act like petulent children.

Doesn't everyone ignore crap like that? All that matters to me is if it wasn't for the modders I wouldn't be able to play it.

This.
Despite all of its flaws (and let's face it, EVERY fan base for everything has flaws) this community has a loving attitude towards each other.
We may argue with each other, but then again, I've yet to see a fan base that doesn't, and our arguing is pretty restrained. Moreso than something like Valve or Infinity Ward.
If you want proof of our loving nature, come to our imageboards and look for the support we give each other or look at the group activity on The Escapist. We're wishing personal (or as close to personal as you can get on the internet) happy birthdays to fellow bronies. As far as I've been able to determine, it's not even automated. It's a labor of love.

Chuck.

Least loud, annoying and obnoxious fanbase I know about that at least has over a million people who counts themselves fans. I count myself one of them and they generally enjoy their fandom in peace, and only wish more people would join the fun so Chuck wouldn't constantly be in fear of being cancelled. In all fairness Chuck is one of the most nerd-friendly shows out there daring to do way more subtle references than The Big Bang Theory, and dosen't base it's punchlines on "Nerds are idiots" which TBBT does. (I still watch it though. Guess cracked has a point: "Similarly, Big Bang Theory is just every other sitcom in nerd-drag, meaning the punchlines are "Sector 2814!" It seduces a lot of geeks by acknowledging but openly loathing them, just like their high school crush. http://www.cracked.com/blog/nbc-cancels-outsourced-anti-protest-letter/ )

Even so I don't see Chuck fans complaining all over the Internet about how misunderstood their show is. But seriously though, at the risk at ruining my point about Chuck fans, here why you should watch Chuck:

Yep, it gets that nerdy. ;)

I agree with you there, it's a brilliant game, but that doesn't change the fact the modders are elitist pricks.

Usually the DDR fanbase is pretty solid. There are a few sour apples, but typically it is just a group wanting to jump around and have fun.
