Few FPS games have the depth or breadth of Perfect Dark. Solid single-player campaign, deep and varied multiplayer, awesome challenge system, and little things like weapon testing and bots that still stand out for being awesome. Not to mention it the sheer size and quality of it all for the time period. Hell, you needed to buy an hardware expansion for your N64 to even play the damn thing.
It's 10 years later and it's only now that FPS games are trying to copy the same variety that Perfect Dark offered then (like MW2's SP/MP/Spec-Ops or Black Ops' SP/MP/Zombies/Combat Training/etc.

I'm going to say it, I don't care how many people flame me. I hated Bad Company 2's multiplayer. Sure it's fun at first, but when I started noticing some things happening over and over again, e.g. getting spawntrapped with two helicopters, teammates not going for the objectives, everyone is a sniper, it pissed me off that this shit happened every single damn game and after a while I just couldn't have fun with it. That being said, the occasional tank kill with the AT mines is VERY satisfying.
Anyway, back on topic...dammit, I can't think of any that I enjoyed for a long time. It's a stretch, but CoD 4. Quickscoping aside, it was nicely balanced and there were no dumb perks that overpowered everything in that slot. Maps were nice and gameplay was fun.
PS. Before you counter my BC2 rant by calling me a CoD fanboy, I'll say this. It was my FIRST FPS game that I played online. I played CoD 4 and Black Ops later. So hah!

I got in on Two, so I could never really get into the first due to the obnoxious loading times (although four-way capture the bag was cool), so I mean more Two and Future Perfect than the original.

Halo 3 and Reach for me, the other day I entered a team slayer and my 3 team mates left, leaving me against 4 of them.
The incredible thing was I won, it was the best feeling in the world.
I also had great fun on AVP2 and 3, sadly both are now long dead, running away from aliens in a blind panic while your marine buddies encourage you on, such a rush.

CoD4. It's everything that's great about the CoD series with less of all of the things that make CoD awful. MW2 has horrible balance and Black Ops is just a bad game period. CoD4 is just right.
Definitely Call of Duty 4. Nicely balanced. The only downsides were too little weapon mods and somewhat cramped maps. And the enemy players were a lot easier to spot than in either Bad Company game (in my opinion, I can't stand getting sniped everywhere I go by multiple officers with magnum ammo. No offense. Screw that, plenty of offense).

Not so much a first person as a third person, but the most amazing game I had was of all things the tie-in for TransFormers: Revenge of the Fallen.
The rest of the game is a real clusterfuck and a solid runner up to "The Worst Game Ever", however I had one match that was just one on one, everyone else quit, me vs. another player both using sniper rifles.
The rush that you get not from the explosions coming from all sides, but the dead silence as you both hunt each other was second to none. I had several matches like that, and it enough to keep me putting it back in my playstation despite the rest of the game.
The rest of the game is a real clusterfuck and a solid runner up to "The Worst Game Ever", however I had one match that was just one on one, everyone else quit, me vs. another player both using sniper rifles.

We demand you come pick us up!"), great enemies, a true reason and motive to play cooperatively (you need as many guns as possible if you want to win), loads of zombies to shoot, and it was simple enough to grasp but deep enough to spend hours and hours on. I rarely spend loads of time on a game, but I've logged 52 hours easily (so Steam says) on that game and I would still go back for more!

Counter-Strike: Oh my first FPS...oh how great thee are. This game has a huge learning curb but you feel so epic when you finally learn how to play and finally ace a whole team
Team Fortress: Definitely a fun experience. You can just get on go any class and have fun with it.

Bad Company 2. The battles when both teams have competent players and only end by a margin of effort by one squad... those are the moments I live for. And then of course there are those battlefield moments, events so bizarre and unexpected that make for the best and most memorable of stories.
I think I'm going to have to split this into offline & online.
Offline: Duke nukem 3D Lan, Goldeneye 64 and ofc timesplitters
Online: Battlefield 1942, BF2, BF:BC 2...(I think i see a pattern there)
