2fort, third map from Dustbowl (TF2) or Hell's Kitchen in Deus Ex.

Not to mention the fun I've had in Wake Island (BF1942), No Mercy 4th map (L4D) and Semois (Company of Heroes)

Ahem :D

boarding action from Halo 1. My favorite map in the game, yet for some reason has been largely ignored or hated upon.

I really like High Ground from Halo 3. It's as assymetric as you can get, with a super-fortified base on one side and a simple beach on the other. Somehow, this seemingly unbalanced mess is easy to gain control of and flows incredibly well.
And the visuals are stunning, too.

That's a good one. Nice topic. I think I'm going to have to say oakfield

just so nice there. nothing ever bad happens (except for that one time)

So simple, so carefree.

Loved Iwo-Jima (mainly because mount suribashi is incredibly easy to hold ,and is regularly the key point in a match) ,also love coral sea because i basically dick around being a kamikaze pilot ,and there isn`t a gazillion strong line waiting for the current pilot to crash

how has no one mentioned omaha in any WWII shooter?
I liked one of the Medal of Honor versions, didn't care for the Call of Duty one. Wish I remembered which version that was :/

Company of Heros had a good one, I liked that single player campaign actually but that's off topic. :p

Man, I hated Carentan. I know a lot of people liked it, but I was really terrible in it. Everytime I went on it, I'd get my ass handed to me. That was in the original CoD - where they had Dawnville - it was renamed in CoD2, put in darkness and rain and given a paint-job, which ruined it.

On TF2 I play on Goldrush, Dustbowl, Pipeline or Badwater. Really good, fun maps with plenty of choke-points. It takes real teamwork to break through the enemy - even if they're not very good.

And then in CoD4 there's Crash and Crossfire. Not much to say about these maps, they're just fun to play on.

Oh, and Oddworld. The planet. Sinister, humurous, dark and stylish.

My favorite place in a video game would have to be Tunguska from Destroy all humans! 2

I think it's the thing that made me obsessed with the Tunguska event, and Russia as a whole. I honestly have to ask how the local townsfolk didn't notice a huge towering spire right outside their little KGB nuclear power plant town, but at the time I just went along with it.

Strangely, all of the Destroy all humans! games have had a power plant somewhere or other.

Outskirts from WaW is one of my favorite maps ever, I love lots of room to snipe and whatnot. Also Urban Ultimatum from MGO

Dustbowl in TF2. I'm a lowly 360 owner, so I've only got the six maps, and it's the only one I'll play.

Halo 2 truly had some great maps. Headlong was by far my favorite. It was just an incredibly fun place to play at with a large group of people, no matter what gametype. Lockout, Coagulation, Zanzibar, and... Well, shit. I forgot what it's called. The one with the big satellite dish? Everyone played Tower of Power on it? That's going to drive me nuts.

The whole Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3. While, admittedly, I got bored with it, seeing it for the first time after walking out of Vault 101 was very, incredibly awesome. Probably in my top ten list of gaming moments.

If you're designing for L4D, most of these suggestions won't work considering the fact that most are arena style multiplayer maps. Those would be better suited for TF2 in my opinion.

If you want a good single-player map, I'd suggest trying to create the second flashback sniper level from COD4. That would be fun to play in L4D as infected. Pouncing from a ferris wheel at the end would be pretty sweet.

Team Deathmatch Map on the original HL1 and I think Quake - Double Cross.
There is a bunker which inside there's a button that can be used to call a nuclear strike.
Once the strike has been called, a one minute warning siren activates and you must rush the bunker to get into cover.
