Drummer... bassist... guitarist...

What (in your opinion) is the best member of a band.

I say bassist.

Depends on the type of music, in metal the guitar and drums are some of the most important parts of the music whereas in alot of softer music a good bassline can make a song. There's no definate answer to this in my opinion.

Depends totally on the music. Most music I would say the vocalist, but in technical death metal its obviously the drummer or guitarist.

In the great words of Mastodon bassist, Troy Sanders

Phrased in my own words: A band is a lot like a bed. The drummer comprises the frame and support of the bed. The bassist is like the matress (makes the sound fuller) and the Guitars are the decorations on the bed and make everything sound intricate and pretty.

Pretty awesome analogy. (Paraphrased from the Blood Mountain making of DvD)

In my opinion, the singer and guitarist are both very important. If I don't like the vocals in a song, I simply will not listen to it. And after playing the Guitar Hero games to hell and back again, I have come to appreciate the intricacies of the guitar. I understand the importance and place of drums and bass in every song, but to be honest, I just don't pay as much attention to them as I do the vocals and lead guitar. Those two can make or break a band, in my opinion.

You do understand in most respects a band is awesome because of all of its members, right?

Saxophonists are awesome.. More bands need a sax!.. But really, everything depends on how the band plays together, not just the individual musician

Obviously the violinist if you've got one. Otherwise the bassist....what? I don't play bass at all.

Style is too much of a factor really. Doesn't seem like you thought this through very well but I'll give it a shot any way.

Good Metal bands make the drums important. For example, In Flames. The drumming in that is awinspiring at times and it has to be because they play a large part in the overall sound of the music.

Other bands can just get away with using the same drumming over and over *cough* Metallica *cough*.

It's a really hard question because you often think that one part of the song doesn't matter but if you really sit and listen, you can hear how it all molds together and its just the most fantastic thing ever. Well, that's the case with good bands any way. Alot of popular moderen music (espiecially in the UK) is considered orignal if the vocalist has a Sheffield Accent instead of a Lancaster Accent. They all seem to have northern accents over here recently and they all play the same chords and the same beats and the same lyrics in each song. Taking that into consideration... they are all equally unimportant and all equally shit.

I'm sorry, what did you just say? Those games show nothing of the guitar.
