AHAHAHAHAHAHA that's amazing. I forgot how stupid that show's technology is. "That guy's trying to hack us! Move over - our security system will be stronger if we both type on the keyboard at once!"

It has become unbelievably popular in the last year or so. I never watched it on TV, about two years ago I just went for the 1-3 season box set as it was going cheap on Amazon at Christmas and I didn't regret it at all.

Haven't seen any 4 or 5 yet, going to get them on DVD at some point soon.

I don't think it's funny. Which is pretty damming for a comedy show. Mind you people here are all over the IT Crowd and that was dire when it first aired. I remember watching it and just being amazed that something could be so unfunny.

That said, some of the BBT's character's do remind of some of the people I've met in real life. Not quite that extreme but they do seem a tad based in reality. Mind you, I hate geekdom, so I'm very biased.

It's also freaking awesome.

The same can be said for ... Studio Ghibli.
Really? Grave of the Fireflies was stupid?

Blindly stab any button on your remote control and there's a pretty good chance the show doesn't remain on the screen, take logical and reasoned actions and it's guaranteed to go. Easy.

I actually don't think it's a bad show. People posting the clip that's supposed to be the show minus the laugh track would do well to realise that that isn't what that is. That clip is of the show with an unnatural and eerie silence that often starts too soon and cuts out the dialogue before it's even finished. The wire is a really excellent show in ways that "TBBT" couldn't possibly reach(and doesn't try to, to be fair)and if you gave it that same treatment, it would also look/feel ridiculous...despite it's many merits.

It's fluff. It's colourful, tame, unchallenging and has enough empathetic characters to be emotionally engaging. That's often enough.

It lets you see how shitty the jokes are when you're not being led around by a laugh track. Every single joke boils down to AHAHHAHAHA THAT SOUNDED SOOOOOOOOOOOO NERDY. If you have any motivation in life and spent a few moments educating yourself on any of the subject matter, any humor that was there makes no sense. Why is a computer upgrade funny? Why is a passing mention of an intellectual funny? Why is watching a "nerd" fumble in front of a girl funny?

There exists nerdy humor. This show does not have it.

That is fine, if you find the geek equivalent of blackface funny.
I don't want to give you the impression that I laugh at this show(though I do find blackface hilarious)...I wasn't exactly singing it's praises...I used no superlatives, unless "not bad" passes for a glowing review.

The nods to nerdiness seem to serve as window dressing for a very tried-and-tested form of sitcom humour, namely, interactions between eccentrics and straight-men...how hilarity ensues...

Is anyone actually offended by this show? It seems innocuous enough to me. The characters are so exaggerated that it's hard to believe that it's hitting too close to home.

Off topic - Captcha is becoming more egregious. I was happy to type bullshit. Now that I'm being asked to describe brands I just feel dirty. Hmmm. It didn't like me associating CAT with "shoes" but "wankers" works for Carter's...that's interesting. I think this is the appropriate response from now on.

How come in this idiotic show people with phds doing cutting edge research in physics share an apartment and drive crappy cars? The research leader in gravity at my university drives a ferrari and flies off to Spain every other week. Those guys make ALOT.

This is what I think about basically all sitcoms. I guess Arrested Development is okay, if you count that.
Gotta say I prefer this version :D

I fucking hate that show. Let me sum up every episode for everyone:

Sheldon enters the room, crowd starts to laugh.
Sheldon: Hello Leonard.
Crowd laughs harder
S: I just came back from the THE COMIC BOOK STORE
Crowd is roaring with laughter
Leonard: Let me guess, you got that collector's edition Star Wars toy?
Crowd erupts with laugh, the place goes insane as everyone in the audience murders each other in laughter.

And the rest of the episode is just 'nerdy' terminology that somehow makes the audience laugh causing their bodies to overheat and spontaneously combust.

It got by over the years with a decent amount of viewership. The reason you are seeing its popularity explode recently is because re-runs (within the last year or so) were picked up by several networks (TBS in particular) and are now being aired throughout the day and week giving greater exposure.

I enjoy the show for the most part. Some of the jokes are a bit over played but overall it is entertaining.

eeeeh. It's an alright show. The more I watch the more I despise Sheldon, and he's pretty central to the show...So it's getting harder and harder to watch. My girlfriend watches it though and she enjoys it a fair bit.
I've had a good laugh though at a couple of scenes in the latest season, but that's about it.

Thus my 2 cents!

hahaha yes, that's exactly what I hate about this kind of thing. The idea that a certain demographic of people like star wars is somehow OMG HILARIOUS!!!

its funny out of all the characters I found Sheldon to be the funniest.. maybe because his entire thing doesn't revolve around "I'm nerdy and I can't get a girl! waaaaaahhh!"
