Because, at the end of it all, nerds are still the joke.
I've seen every single episode and I've only ever felt this to be the case
once, in a scene where Sheldon has a drink tossed at him on the side of the road and is called a nerd in the process.
Other than that, never in the show's entire run did I feel like I was being made fun of, like
I was the joke.
Sometimes our culture is used for a joke, but that's, like...
duh. Of course that's gonna happen in a show whose main cast are geeks. I don't really see the problem there. It's not like how in
Friends there are occasions when the joke is made that
Ross is an archaeologist, and that's funny on its own because it's nerdy and lame.
Nonetheless, most of the show rides on very common sitcom jokes. Mostly jokes having to do with their relationships. Lately the cast's status as socially awkward and nerdy has been fairly secondary (even Sheldon's being given a more human character).

For one thing, it's the laughter problem. I know Big Bang Theory doesn't cop-out and use laugh track, they use an actual live studio audience, but it's so much worse to watch and absolutely kills the flow.
Here's the 4chins screencap I want to convey a point with.
Actually, I don't have any other point besides that image. It sums up the show as pretty unspectacular and it's an entertaining read anyway.
... A number of those are completely false and/or ridiculous exaggerations.
