Gonna have to sign-up with Magneto on this one. While I'd like to think I'm above taking out years of torment on my former tormentors, I'm really not. Having inhuman, god-like powers has a tendency to bring swift wrath on others.

Bob's right. without any notion of some kind of definite moral code, or an intangible "right and wrong" that exists outside of us, we would all pick Magneto's side. (c'mon, be honest with yourself here)

however, one ting I must point out is that the whole "we're picked on because we're better" fantasy is just that. A fantasy to make yourself feel better about the situation you're in. There's something to be said about the human psyche fearing something superior to it, because, well, let's face it, if they're smarter than you, it's a lot easier for you to get taken advantage of right? (probably why we hate corporate businessmen; well, really moreso that they DO take advantage of us, employing underhanded tactics to do so) but for most cases, this thought never even crosses the bully's mind as the reason he's picking on you in the 1st place is probably because he thinks himself superior to you. In reality, people are picked on because they're easy targets; whether that be because of a weak frame, or not being witty enough to have a quick comeback to an insult. It's the exact opposite; because you're (in some way) worse than them, not because you are better.

I myself would BE Magneto. Mostly for a "the ONLY way to ensure that Magneto doesn't f*** it up for Mutants is to BE Magneto" reason.

IMHO, I have ALWAYS felt that "Homo Superior" is the single BIGGEST crap Stan Lee/Marvel took on Magneto. Why? Because Superior is ENGLISH, and Biology is made up of 2 LATIN/GREEK words representing Genus and Species. So, using an English to Latin dictionary "Superior" in latin is "Sapien". "Homo Sapien" means "Of all those monkeys that are SIMILAR (Homo) to us: we are the SUPERIOR species". To me: Magneto going around using "Homo Superior" is NO different from Glenn Beck VERY MUCH OVERUSING the word Nazi (especially with the word Communist; The Nazis were a very RIGHT bunch of ANTICOMMUNISTS, Beck. And Nazi Communist ISN'T an oxymoron).

If I were Magneto, my "war" would be against Xavier not humanity. By creating the XMen, Xavier is basically preaching "All "Good" Mutants wear an X." Magneto LIVED in Nazi Germany when the Nazis preached "All "Good" Jews must wear a yellow Star of David." And, Magneto LIVED in one of the death camps that came afterwards. So, my Magneto can't sit idlely by while Charles passively walks us into humanity's Mutant Death Camps. Also, he'd be a champion for those who don't want to wear an X.

P.S. I know that this would be more Anthropological than Biological. Basically, yes, in Homo Neanderthal, Neanderthal is a region in France so my whole 2 Latin/Greek words reasoning would be out the window. But the Homo Sapien meaning "Superior Man" makes Magneto look like an idiot with his "Homo Superior" BS still holds up Anthropologically.

Well, the question "why am I or so-and-so picked on?" should rather be "why is so-and-so a bully?". It's far from survival of the fittest where being strong makes you a bully. It's rather a matter of unrefined social training where you operate by a pack mentality. The bully doesn't become alpha-dog to his victims or the class, but rather to his pack alone. Writing on others with physical or verbal violence sets up these primitive social lines which hold up his (or her) very limited world.
Those picked on are better creatures, but they aren't picked out because of jealousy or fear. They are picked out because they can be picked out. The violence is for its own sake. The bully's social power is only real if regularly demonstrated, no different from the tyrants. And history well shows the fate of tyrants.

The reason behind the bullying is more to the old instinct of ancient human in that if you are weak, you can not prosper and this transfers onto modern society today.Think of apes. They bully, they have groups,it is natural,it has always happened.I do agree that it should not happen and would rather rip limb from limb any idiot to come into such power, but people are scared of it by nature.Difference is seen as weakness and therefore shunned.

Personally,I would go for the side of PSYCHOSLAVIA!!!

Regardless of the mythos, I've always wanted to be apart from either sides. If it was Star Wars, I wanted to be grey, neither Jedi nor Sith.

I'd be on the "dont give a fuck" team. I coped by developing a profound sense of apathy. which helped, because then further "bullying" didnt bother me at all.

Also, If i EVER picked on gay or possibly gay guys (and i never have or will due to the aforementioned apathy), it would not be because of some stupid perception of homosexuals being evil or whatever. it would be because flamboyant people(gay or straight) tend to be obnoxious as hell.

If I can take anything away from this whole screed, it's that MovieBob is the biggest jerk alive and deserved to be bullied. He spends the entire time informing us of how obviously brilliant he is, then carefully explaining that since he's still brilliant that we all have to recognize him as superior.

Excuse me, but did you ever think that you weren't so much bullied as being knocked off your high horse? Here you are with a voice across the Internet and the best you can do is pen your own deluded revenge fantasies, getting lost in the same fantasy of the ones you call nerds and geeks.

Hey, I got bullied at one point or another in my life, and I am pretty sure nearly everyone did in form or another, too. The only difference is my own bullying did actually make me a better person, because it's very important to recognize that when one person feels slighted, all he'll be obsessed with in the future is making sure others pay. You're the bully now, but luckily your role in society is relegated to your myopic little non-reviews.

Grow up and get with the present.

It's wonderful how you take underlying questions in my subcontious ("Why is stupidity so prevalent?") and answer them so completely I couldn't tell my own thoughts from yours.

I'm not sure which side I'd choose. It might vary from day to day.

Great video, good thoughts.

of course there is a part of me that wants peace and happiness and by that drives me against Professor Charles Xavier's side but there IS as big part of me, maybe bigger that would exploit powers (if I had) to not take revenge but to make people fear to ever lay a hand on someone who isn't as big or strong as themselves. so in other words.. magneto, Im on your side...

I'd be with Professor X, largely because I'm one of those people who follow that archaic, superstitious belief system whose Hero was persecuted, tortured and murdered but forgave the people who did it to him, and urged those who followed him to do the same. And He actually *was* better than everyone else, too.

Would I be tempted to visit revenge upon those who bullied me? Hell, yes. I was tempted to do so even without having mutant powers. But doing so would make me little better than them.

So I choose the X-Men, thanks.

Interesting topic.

Magneto is a bit genocidal for my tastes. I would prefer wiping out terrorist training camps and dealing out moral justice on men in Middle East countries who give no rights to women. Also I would take a shot at Kim Jong Il, I like Samsung and him (and his regime) messing with South Korea is pissing me off.

Seeing how the brother hood has always treated toad, I would say they would also be the type of people who would bully people because of their differences if they were not mutants. I would have to go X-men on this one.

I just watched this, and I have to say I am/was in the process of writing a paper on this very topic, except from the perspective of growing up a girl geek.

The topic's "childhood" (broad spectrum writing course with undergrad and grad students) and I was going to discuss my experiences growing up and falling more into geekdom as I grew up, comparing it against the existing pressures of a typical community for girls to grow up a particular way. And, to take it one step further, looking at how girls on either side of the line really aren't all that different in terms of fundamental behavior, but they're supposed to be perceived differently.

I guess now I need to find a new paper idea.... >_<

You know, I'm pretty certain he wasn't up on some high horse during high school and grade school? Speaking as a woman who was bullied and picked on up until my senior year of high school, I can fully understand and agree with his views on this, and I imagine many of those who were in the same boat would as well. There is a very major difference between "Being bullied at one point or another", and being bullied almost endlessly until the end of high school. Few of us ever have ever really understood the reason behind any of it, and many never will.

For example, myself. I truthfully can't understand why I was ever picked on, I've never been fat, I've never been slutty, I never wore glasses, I was never a poor kid, and I was certainly never ugly. Only real differences I could think of was the fact that when almost all of the other girls were creaming themselves over Backstreet Boys or N'Sync, or Spice Girls a few years earlier, I was listening to stuff like Metallica or other metal/rock music. That and I played soccer for a select team, rather than playing for the school or playing volleyball like most of the girls in my elementary school class. But truthfully? I can't see that as having been a real reason to pick on me, since it was never brought up. With the exception of the soccer thing after my team crushed the school's team in a very hyped up championship game... I know a lot of people weren't happy with me after that.

I'm going to have to watch more Movie Bob. I found this one pretty damn insightful, to tie Magneto being right through social ramifications that lead to bullying.
