Actually, my first thought after watching this episode was, "If Kevin Bacon showed up in anything that can be linked back to St. Elsewhere, then everything that has ever existed is in Westphall's head."

As entertaining as it is, the connections get a little... flawed... after a while.

I mean, you might as well say that St. Elsewhere takes place in Boston, therefore any show, book, or media that includes Boston is part of Tommy Westphall's imagination.

In fact, since Boston exists in our world, I assume that anything that takes place in our world or references it is part of Tommy Westphall's imagination. Two degrees of seperation for every piece of media based around Earth, problem solved.

Here's a creepy thought: The Mythbusters did a cameo on an episode of CSI. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman are real people. Ergo, we are also imaginary.

Simple. Tommy Westphall is God.

Anyway, yeah, I heard about this several years ago. I hate shows that end with it all being a dream and whatever, so thinking about all of tv being just one big metaverse inside an autistic kid's head was a little too much. And it still is.

Oh man crazy fan theories. However, I see a way to rapidly unravel this particular one. If we assume that the St. Elsewhere peeps have a dream-nature, we assume this infects things they come in contact with. However, unless the St. Elsewhere crossover episode is explicitly referenced in a 'real' episode, we can simple assume that the crossover never actually happened, and was the product of Autism God-type including elements of other things into his imagination. This examination can then be reapplied if a universe has the dream-nature, with any crossovers it has. Via this method, I'd assume a large number of connections break, and suddenly the shared universe collapses.

So I just checked out this chart, and it has a link to Batman. This means this whole mess of TV continuity also connects to the messed up DC continuity. But wait! There was a whole big Marvel vs DC series that connects those two continuities. Now between Marvel vs Capcom and Mortal Kombat vs DC universe, we have links to video games as well.

In other news, there's a direct link between Doctor Who and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I am very interested in hearing about this one.

So... what about that Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode where they insinuated that maybe the entire show was took place inside the head of a girl locked inside a mental institution? That's some Inception sh*t right there ^^

Also, somewhat related. This is partially why I'm not too bummed over the rights to X-Men not reverting back to Marvel any time soon. Being part of the larger continuity always kind of undermined the whole idea of that franchise.

That just means that the boy imagined the world that in turn is imagined by a fictional (in his mind) girl.
