I've noticed something as of late, Bioware fans getting all bitchy because Bioware have the nerve to try and expand in an ever changing industry. You see, look at Infinity Ward. They made, CoD 4 and it was great. But then they made nothing but CoD games which resulted in them falling apart. Now, I love Bioware. They're definitely my favourite developer. I really didn't hate Dragon Age 2 that much. Sure, it wasn't as good as Origins but it was still ok. And this is why I'm worried about Mass Effect 3. Because Mass Effect 2 was so amazing, if ME3 doesn't live up to a considerable legacy it will get cast down, even if it is still a very good game. Just fancied saying that.

Hey, welcome to the Escapist (as you have a low post count despite your join date).

Couple of pointers: Paragraphs make posts easier to read. Use them.
The search bar will turn up a couple of threads similar to this, you may want to use it in future.

OT: Don't really have an opinion on other peoples reactions right now.

People are mostly ragging on Bioware because:

A) Poor writing in DA2 (and to an extent TOR),

B) Bioware is exceptionally, exceptionally bad at PR. Like "their devs get into catfights with random posters on their forums" bad at PR. Once again, mostly the DA2 team.

From I've seen and played of Mass Effect 3 it is looking like it is going to be a fantastic game, striking the balance between the slightly to linear Mass Effect 2 and the sometimes cumbersome aspects of the original game. I also am not bothered by the day one DLC because I was getting the Collectors Edition from the start so its only a positive for me.

The comparison doesn't really hold to well because Bioware isn't going to become the "Mass Effect Studio" like Infinity Ward became the "Call of Duty Studio". If ME3 somehow does suck its the last game anyway and Bioware will move on.

Yeah same, just means I have more stuff to play. And what I meant by the Infinity Ward comparison is that when a studio pushes out one game repeatedly then it collapses.

But DA2 had very good writing?

So, to answer your question, no, DA2 did not have very good writing.

Yeah, there were some stinkers, but it was an ok game. But going through Bioware forums seems to show that most people hated it because it wasn't enough like Origins.

I was under the impression that people hated it because of the bad writing, combat, and level design. Also because David Gaider can't resist arguing with random people on the internets.

Yeah, David Gaider needs to shut up once in a while. But the combat in DA2 was a damned side better than Origins, the story was good, characters were interesting and the level design, while nice was copy pasted way too much.

I think it's more that there publisher was Activision, and a lot of the employees got completely screwed over so left.

OT: Is it wrong to have high expectations for a series that the player has found very good? I don't think so.
