It seems that the Metal Gear Solid franchise isn't stopping anytime soon with two more games on the way. But none of these games will be titled as Metal Gear Solid "5". And we all know that a fifth sequel will one day be released. So who will star in it? The most obvious awnser would be Solid Snake, Big Boss or Raiden. But Snake isn't in to good a shape anymore, Robo-Raiden will have his own game with MGS: Rising and Big Boss will apear in MGS: Peace Walker.
Now, it would be stupid of Konami to continu rehashing these characters for future sequels. They need something or "someone" new. However, a new character in an MGS game requeers a lot of delicacy. After all, we wouldn't want a repeat of the whole MGS 2 affair. So this new character shouldn't be a completely new one, but one the fans already know and respect.
In that case, wouldn't the BOSS be the perfect canidate as main character in the fifth installment? She's already probably the best character in the overall franchise and there's a lot about her past that's shrouded in mystery. She could have her own game just like Big Boss had with MGS 3, where we discover how he became what he became. In MGS 3 it was stated that the BOSS tipped the scale of WW 2 in favor of the allied forces.
Why not show that? Show how she started out as a simple soldier and got introduced to the Cobra-unit and the Sorrow and eventually became the greatest soldier at whatever price that may be. It would be a great chance to have the first female lead in the series and to see World War 2 through MGS-eyes.

So what do you think?
Would the BOSS make a good lead character?

Yes - definately! I would like to see her and the cobras kicking ass - would be more action and less stealth based as they didnt really combine the spy/soldier traits till MGS3.

Definately want to see all of that intense story told!

How about they make a MGS game where we play as Johnny? :p

(If you don't remember him, he was the soldier who always had stomach problems.)

I love how you say "the whole MGS2 affair" as if introducing Raiden into the series was a bad move.
It was genius, served as the perfect way to bring Snake into more of a narrative role, and served perfectly as a great plot device.
Everybody was thinking to themselves Iriquois Pliskin? wtf!? That's David!!!

I don't mean THAT he was introduced, but HOW he was introduced.
He was just some nobody that was suddenly thrown on stage right after Snake had the encouter with metal gear RAY on the sinking tanker.

big boss died in mgs4 dude .. peace walker is after mgs3

and i loved the boss, i'd definitely pay full price for a game of boss ... i remember saying in more than one thread that when the truth was being revealed about her i genuinely felt destroyed inside .. hers was the only story that ever made me cry and clutch my chest really hard it hurt so much ... the leading up to that moment and the ending itself was done so perfectly

anyway .. raiden again huh? ... it might turn into a much better tenchu XD

That sounds great to me, even though WWII is already over-worked.

Well, most of the time she will be training Big Boss in blood.
So the game is gonna be less about WW2, but it's still going to be in there. And we will still win over the germans.

nes remakes are a good idea but making a new metal gear with raiden as the main character I thought kojima learnt that mistake a long time ago
