And the King actually replied
"...what the hell is wrong with you, kid?" (No, he didn't, but he'd be within his rights.)

I'd be tempted to abuse the power to authorize something sillier, like "Billy Dubs", "Bracken Fistworthy" or "Roo Beer", but that's because I'm significantly less mature than the king of a country.

I do wonder how much of his own mail the king of Norway handles, though. I mean, you can write a letter to the president here, but it hits the staff and the autopen 98 times out of a hundred.

That story made me smile.
I imagine the king as a big beard with black beads as eyes... No idea why.

Wow, I truly had no idea Norway had a king.

Anyway I think it was really nice of the king to respond to the letter, and even nicer for denying his request. Could you imagine going around with a name like that?

I know you can say that Sonic is a stupid name to change your name to; but really, how much better is Chister?

Alot of European countries still have Kings and Queens as figure heads for their democratic governments. The UK, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden(?), at the very least.

Wow. That king is a pretty nice guy. Responds to letters...even though its likely someone acting as the king, now that I think about it.

Perhaps its best that he couldn't change his name to Sonic X. Knuckles would have been better.
I know that I wouldn't want to mess with someone named Knuckles.
Agreed.

This reminds me of the good old days when Kings slew dragons and went over sea's to fight the Saracens or something.

Whatever happened to that? Surely we could find a jumped up alligator for Prince Edward to kill with a sword, or something.

Yes, Sweden got a King too. but He's not in charge of anything, he doesn't even have the right to vote here.

If its the same way in Norway, then i guess he's got time to reply to such letters.

Still a funny story, and it was nice of Harald to reply.

As I said, figure head ;) Just like our Queenie! Although technically she has the power to dissolve parliament, but only with its consent (like before an election; the previous parliament has to be dissolved first).

To the uninitiated:

All of Scandinavia was run by monarchies in the old times, nowadays the monarchies are just symbolic and the respective kings/emperors/whatever of today have no say in politics anymore. It's either one doughebag dictator or a group of douchebags that dare call themselves "government" that call the shots now.

About our King actually replying to this kid - That was just sweet. But really, there are better names than "Sonic X" for a child out there.

P.S: I'm Norwegian.
