Now there are tons of threads about abortion and other rights, but what is the escapists general consensus of circumcision?
Now, in case you're not familiar with it, supposedly the foreskin is the part of one's manhood with the most nerve endings, and thus is the source of the most pleasure. In many cases this part is removed, either for religious reasons or possible medical reasons. Now it hasn't been 100% proven yet and tests have been inconsistent, but there is evidence leaning towards the possibility that the lack of foreskin can result in less chance of obtaining STDs.

The main problem with this is that it is usually done in infancy, and the child has no say in the matter. Obviously if anyone had a choice during the stage where they where coherent and aware of the options they're going to be opposed to a medical procedure in which part of their dick is removed.

So I ask you escapists, what is your opinion on this?
Should we remove possible pleasure to reduce the risk of possible STDs?
Should the child have a say in the matter, even though this would result in circumcisions being very rare?

I personally say leave it there. What do you think?

A baby can't choose, so I suggest we wait until the child can choose.

Eliminate mohels for sure.

i am against anything that is done to someone that is not life-saving without their approval.

circumcision and baptism are at the top of my "will not do to my little one" list for when i have kids.

I think it's one of those things that you're best leaving open to the party itself, and not ruling one way or another. Basically, allow people to have circumcisions if they want, but don't force them either way.

As for children having circumcisions... I really don't have enough information to say something meaningful, so I suppose I'll say this: "Don't fix what's not broken."

I was circumcized. I don't really care; I fap just as well as anyone. It's nice not having a flap of basically pointess skin hanging at the end of my fella. I get as much pleasure from coughsplutter as I ever have. If there's more, I don't know about it, and I really couldn't care less. I'd rather have less chance of my thing falling off than less pleasure, thanks.
It's not useless skin, it's roughly 50% of your nerve endings meaning your faps are half as pleasurable.

Agreed.

I also heard the part about medical indications (especially less risk of infections because secretions are more easily removed). But honestly, as long as you shower and wash properly (including your genitals), I see no reason to remove the foreskin.

Another interesting thing I heard is, that circumcision leads to a slight hornification of the glans penis (because it's constantly being mechanically manipulated without the foreskin to protect it).
While this may reduce pleasure, it can also make a man more... uhm, enduring, something which the ladies'll surely enjoy.

I think I'd pass out if I still had my foreskin, then, because I get enough from this.
I don't know. I wish I still had mine. Roughly 50% of nerve endings is alot of missing pleasures.

I was circumcised when I was very young as a result of Islam influences in my family, so you could say after I was born I was brought up in the tradition and religion of Islam.

It's hard for my opinion not to be biased towards circumcision, as I've only ever known circumcision from one end of the argument. I feel comfortable with it and I can't say I've ever felt anything was missing and, obviously, I'm not gonna notice a difference concerning sexual pleasure. I think it would be interesting to hear from the point of view of an individual who's known both situations through adulthood.

I mean, I'd also like to have a son someday and I hope I have a better understanding of this by then.

Yeah that's fair enough. I just think that they look a bit... ugh. With the skin, I mean.

baptism? whats really so wrong with it, take away all the religious parts of it and all its doing is putting someone in water, babies don't even get fully submerged when baptized. i guess you problem with this one is the religious part.
I was baptised, as well as circumcized. Okay, so baptism is a Catholic tradition, and circumcision is a Jewish one...

I'M A CATHOJEW.

Seriously, though, I could care less why it was done. It was done becuase my parents thought it would be the good thing to do, and good for them.
Ofcourse you think it looks 'ugh'. You're not used to it. If we didn't have circumcision and you had a cut prick women or men would look at it and say 'ugh'.

I'm going to go out on a limb and presume you mean male circumcision. There's female circumcision too.. but that's a little different. [http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs241/en/]

I don't agree with it really. If someone wants it done when they're old enough to make a choice then hurray for them. Same deal with piercings, tattoos and other body mods. Young babies however.. Not so much.

I'm not circumcised, in fact circumcision is somewhat of a rarity in my country (exceptions made for the Muslim and Jewish minorities), it seems that nobody outside of America and the Middle-East has this practice.

If it's your religion or if it's for medical reasons, I'm not against it, but the routine circumcision of newborn babies by American doctors seems stupid and unnecessary to me.

P.S. And to the people telling the OP to use the search button, shut up! We had that discussion ages ago, and it's not like it's a topic we talk that much about anyway.

Hasn't had an impact on me or my sex life. I have a Jewish background, was circumcised at eight days of age (can't really have an opinion at that age). I'm perfectly fine, thank you for your interest.

Since I'm an atheist, I feel no obligation to the commandment or it's symbolic connection with god - and I'm skeptical to it's health and hygienic benefits - so I most likely wouldn't circumcise my hypothetical future children. Just because something could go wrong, and the benefits don't outweigh the potential risks.

I did. I found 4 topics. First 3 where polls on whether you where circumcised or not. Im guessing the last one was something along these lines?

Yeah that's a LOT different. I'm pretty sure everyone here is opposed to that.

A.. cut prick? -winces- I hope you don't mean that literally. Cos I'm pretty sure I'd look at it and say "ugh" as well, if I did.
You know, if you pull back the skin, an uncircumcised penis looks exactly like a circumcised one. Oh, and outside of the U.S., you might get the "ugh"s for being circumcised.

Does it really matter? A lot people here (like me) hadn't joined yet when you guys where having those debates. Cut the guy some slack, it's not like he's trying to do a religion thread.

It's not like there's really a choice in the matter these days. It's slandered practice unless someone bothers the doctor with it.
