I'm 20 minutes from downtown LA, so I'd be screwed. It's just a question of what gets me first, the heat/blast effects or the massive radiation. Personally I'm hoping for the heat/blast effects. Have my shadow permanently etched in the sidewalk or against a wall

I probably wouldn't be affected, as the nearest large city is Seattle, and I don't live on main land USA, I live on San Juan Island, off the coast of Washington State.

I live in a city, Sydney, so i'm dead. But if you mean the closest city to the one we're in now then i'd be alright as Australia's major cities are so far apart (like as far apart as the countries in Europe are).

Nearest city is 40 miles away. Unless it gets hit by a Tsar Bomb, I'm safe.

And I notice most people overestimating the size of a nuclear blast. Check this:

Safe gwanage, I'm going camping on Orcas Island in a few weeks time... there are no bears there are there?
Not that I know of, but then again I don't spend much time on Orcas. If there are bears there, they likely aren't native to the island.

If Canterbury in the UK is classed as a city, my Uni would be gone, and i'd probally be dead from the fallout. Otherwise I'd be safe as nearest one to that is quite a distance away.
I'm at that Uni too! Unless you're at Christchurch in which case you're my enemy! Enemy!

Of course, same rules apply for my death here too.

Unless I'm at home, in which case I'm fine, no cities within 30 miles.
OH GOD, THEY HAVE LEARNT TO USE THE INTERNET!!!! DIE!!!

(in other words, yes I am at christchurch...nice to meet you)

I live in northern Melbourne, Australia. Probably about 30 KM from the city centre, so I'm pretty much screwed.

If its at the center of the nearest city, anything under 400kt, then im safe.

I can survive anything but an Asteroid Impact, and that is an unfair comparison, after all, that would make North america extinct.

HA! TAKE THAT HONOLULU!!!!! Yeah I live in Hawaii....and absolutely hate it. The only thing about my life that will change is that I'll have a better reason to get off this island as soon as I can.

I live within 60 miles of Los Angeles so I am pretty sure i'd have to evacuate because of rads, and or die in the winds of rads from it. Or i would die from the blast itself. TBH I do not know enough about nuclear weapons (besides that Hiroshima was Atomic) to really know how screwed I am.

On a side note, how the hell is Los Angeles not in the spell check's databank?

Edit: Wow I did that Google maps thing earlier in the thread, and I am like clear on all of the bombs even the Tsar one. Weird. So I would be fine except for radiation, and I think I would be able to evacuate. So I would be displaced and have other issues like living in a world where someone nuked the US. Which based on everyone's reaction to 9/11 I'd imagine the knee-jerk would be very catastrophic.

Well, I'm pretty much dead. The city/town closest to me is,like, 20-30 minute drive away...
Same here. I'm between two cities, each about 20-30 minutes away.

So yeah, the city nearest to you has just been Hiroshima'd, how will this affect you? from anything from food prices to travel to- well anything. (If you live in a city just pretend you survived that and the impending fallout)
For me, I'd be more or less screwed considering I live 15 miles from a city (OK, Population 16,000 but officially a city nonetheless) and that's where my school is, oh that and radiation and whatnot affecting me.
Willemstad is basically the middle of Curacao. Best case scenario the two sides are split and the tips are the last pieces of land BUT OH WAIT NO ONE LIVES THERE.
Seriously no one will survive since the city is the busiest part of the island and it's only 60 km long[as in farthest points apart].
Other then that there's the radiation from the explosion and the fallout....
There will be no survivors, any left will soon die from radiation alone.

Closest things to me that I consider "cities" would be Buffalo NY, Pittsburgh PA, and Cleveland OH. I'm going to assume Cleveland got hit.

Which means no more Browns, and by default, no more Pittsburgh/Cleveland rivalry.

New Zealand loses it's nuclear free status, and I lose my back yard, with myself following soon after.
