To put it bluntly, I need help to win a game of Civilization 4. So, what better way to steal plans and information than ask the people on this forum? Feel free to post helpful hints, your stratagy concerning civ, location, build, the way you like to play, and what your favourate race/leader/map is. You could even gloat, by saying what highest difficulty you had managed to defeat, just as long as its earned.

So, who thinks that they are the best Civilization 4 players out there?

I'm absolutely piss-poor at Civ 4, but we could play a game sometime, I'm sure. As long as you lower your score, and the rounds don't become a bore. TBH, I wish it had more gore.

Or something.

Personally, I believe the opening rounds of any Civ game have to work like an RTS: Scout like crazy and build up some sort of defensive force. Then again, it all depends on who you ally with. If you're lucky and don't lose your head, then I'm sure turtling is a more than valid option for people in decent, supportive teams.

Depends how you wanna win. If you wanna win by conquering everyone, cant help you coz I suck at that. I tend to win culturally, which really means build as many Wonders, temples & theatres as you can & watch your opponents cities flock to join you. If you get a culture famous person thing, send them to one of your cities on the boarder with another empire & have him give that city a culture bonus, which will vastly expand ur cities boarder if its a new one & generally be enough to see the connecting cities won over pretty quick.

ill provide you with my award winning RTS strategy... nobody else look!

i play alot of RTS, and i mean lots, any RTS is my cup of tea, and its because long ago i decided to come up with 'The Theory'

i thought long and hard... what principle serves true for ANY RTS?

i thought about resources... but there are so many, and each game plays very differently...

I thought about the tech tree, but in some cases a tier 1 could beat a tier 3...

I thought about Strategy... but this is the most diverse of them all...

in the end what came as the most vital aspect of your playing style for any RTS is something i call the 'K' factor, how much killing can you squeeze from unit X? by killing i really mean how much objective completion.

In DOW: Eldar (shockingly) play as the most K rich army, they can strike and flee, and farm 'K' from your opponent, reserve your own K, deplete your opponents, thats the key.

In Age of empires, its choosing attrition strategies that can survive with the least maintenance, while inflicting the most damage on your opponents, so while a horde can inflict massive damage, it needs replenishing, artillery however can halt and defeat your opponents strategies.

In Civ? the key is choosing a strategy that goes on working long after its potential is fulfilled, as stated above, the culture option is the most K oriented option, but once again K is just the principle, not he best execution.

So, Pick units and options that have the most K, survivable units with the ability to inflict more resource damage than you paid for them.

sorry for no specific strategies, but i swear by my mouse that the way of the K is the path of the victor

isn't civ 4 a TBS not an RTS? makes a lot of difference to simple games like DoW

Thanks for your tips and stratagies, I'll be sure to use them effectively. A question of mine is how you are meant to build an invading force? I usually try to build as big a force as possible, but this always leads to fighting a much superior force with higher tech than me. So, what information can I steal today?
