If the computer didn't cheat then then some games would be too easy these days. Take Mario Kart Wii for example, if I wasn't blue shelled every time I got into first place usually over chasms where I would fall to my untimely demise then the game wouldn't have lasted as long for me. I would have had a short pleasent experience and drove off into the sunset, now who really wants that?

Yup, I tripped over that trope when I was stuck in a TVTrope-themeed Wiki-loop and I agree with everything there. Heck, the only "rock, paper, scissors" minigame that I've played that didn't cheat was the face-off system for an NHL game for the N64 (NHL Rock the Rink, maybe?). That exception only proves this b*l**hi* rule!

Excitebike 64. The computer players couldn't overturbo their engines and conk out.

But I got my revenge by building a track the AI (and most human opponents) could not understand. Turbo made you wipe out on every straight :)

The Jackal snipers in Halo 2 and 3 are absolute cheating fucks on Legendary because as soon as you step out of cover they instantly spot you. But worst of all, they can spot you even when foliage like bushes are in their way, like in the first level of Halo 3 you can't fucking see them through the bushes but they can see you. Assholes.

Computers only cheat if the game designers weren't able to make the game adequately challenging without it. Don't begrudge the cheating - it's supposed to be a challenge to overcome.
If the developers couldn't at least hide the cheating, there's no reason for me to buy the game. They didn't want to put any effort in to making it.
Also, a challenge to overcome? That's impossible simply because there is no challenge. Either the computer cheats and you're guaranteed to lose, or you (barely) win.

Is that with or without PP-UP's and PP-MAX's? I beat it just fine, use things it has no advantage to and teach that Pokemon moves that hurt psychic types.
Pokemon Red... PP was not used in that version. Well, enemy pokemon didn't use it, so a 5PP move could be used as often as the enemy wanted. There weren't any items that increased the max amount of "charges" a move had, there was only a restore item(elixir IIRC). Also in RBY is the complete ownage of Alakazam, it has very high special(used for both attack and defence), high speed and fairly high defence while the type that did double damage(poison IIRC) had some of the weakest attacks in the game.

also, in Call of Duty 5 [World at War], the AI aims at you, and only at you. seriously. if you stick your head out of cover half an inch, every enemy AI automatically notices you and starts emptying out the magaazine clip into your face with deadly accuracy. what's the point in having friendly AI's in a game if the enemy is only going to shoot in your direction, no matter what, and totally forget about any other threat on the entire map?

i mean, if we're playing Halo, and you're a spacemarine that wears a tank as body armor and mows down hordes of enemies for breakfast, fine, it makes more sense that the AI would shoot in your direction. but if you're just a common grunt, and there are a dozen more-exposed targets the AI can shoot at, why oh why does it aim for you every single time?
So you can TK the AI for more ammo? Thats all I ever use them for.

Remember the battle with Lou in Guitar Hero 3? It's one percent playing good, and ninety-nine percent hoping you get the better power-ups.
I still havnt beaten that bastard on Hard yet, I finally beat Raining Blood on Hard and feel like a God...then that bastard Rips me a new one.
I've beaten Lou on Hard. It's all about pattern recognition and when to use the powerups.

The only game I have played that seemed to out-think the player rather than throw extra stuff at the AI teams at the start is gallactic civilizations 2, But so many games do cheat to make it more of a challenge as it is so much simpler to do that than code genius AI

It makes me laugh when the computer cheats. It's just sitting there, humming away like 'what?' and I just crack a rueful little smile and shake my head.
Cheating bastard.

The best AI still cheats to some extent. It just does so less noticeably. If it did not, there would be no challenge. Not until real artificial intelligence is developed, anyway.

One Shot One Kill in Call of Duty 4. It's one percent shooting and 99 percent throwing back grenades.
