The 1st. Marine Intersteller Expeditionary Force (or 1st.MIEF for short) from Ian Douglas's Inheritance trilogy, basically there the military unit that thr future space United States sends off to deal with the the most horrible enemies that they have to fight (and this is a series were you can expect both sides to be bringing tac nukes, anti-matter warheads, and clouds of nano machines (that eat what ever they touch(read: YOU!!)) to even a minor engagement)
I forgot about them. They are pretty dedicated SOB's.

They were the first unit that I thought of, them and the Colonial Marines from Aliens. Though to be honest, I think merely adding Marines to the title can make just about anything seem bad-ass.

The Death Watch, from the Mandalorians.

Not the new-age terrorist group who tried to bomb the Senate building, I'm talking about the civil war-era Death Watch.

Omega Squadron, aka the Death's Head Legion, from the original Starcraft
As a group, their considered second best, but their name kicks ass

I would have to also put my vote in for "Orbital Drop Shock Trooper." Not only does it have meaning, but I like the way the words "Drop Shock" work together.

Feh, the Death Watch back then were wannabe Neo Crusaders. Now THOSE guys would fuck you up.
I'm also a fan of the Protectors formed after the civil war.

I'd probably actually go with the Adeptus Astartes or one of the Imperial Guard regiments (Tanith First-and-Only anyone?), but just to be different, I would put forth the Royal Manticoran Marine Corps from the Honorverse, chiefly because, while it's a simple and straightforward title, it conjures up an image of a horde of manticores doing space marine type things. Atleast, it does for me anyways...

6th Air Division, 66th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ustio Air Force. Callsign 'Cipher', Identifier 'Galm 1', Codename '[The] Demon Lord'

Protagonist from Ace Combat Zero. 'Mobius 1' from Ace Combat 4 and 'Blaze' (Razgriz 1) from AC5 are also equally pretty cool.

It's not a military unit, but the Liveware Problem was a Special Circumstances vessel in the novel Matter, and SC generally deals with military type stuff and subterfuge.

Iain Banks tends to come up with a lot of delightfully creative names for all of his ships, a couple of my favourites being the one in my forum title, the Lightly Seared On The Reality Grill, the It's My Party And I'll Sing If I Want To, and The Usual But Etymologically Unsatisfactory
