Howdy Escapist, behold, a thread!

This thread isn't about nessesarily good songs or catchy songs but, cool songs. The kind that you hear and think "Wow, that's cool!". For example, Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" has an incredibly cool sounding riff, played by Jimmy Page who is by far the most cool guitarist that is still alive. "Money" by Pink Floyd similarly has a restoundingly cool riff, while "Wish You Were Here" is less cool. It's a great song and one of my favourites, but it's more emotionally touching than just cool.

Other songs may be judged less on the context of the coolness or the content of the cool song, but by the cool effect it has on people. "Wonderwall" by Oasis may seem like a sappy love song at first, but it's simplicity to play for us ordinary people combinded with it's ability to make (forgive me for my horrendous generalising here) women literally melt when played by some young bloke in a bar means it can easily get the attention of that special someone, and is that not, ladies and gents, the most cool thing of all? Probably not actually, but you get my point.

Anyway, here's what I think is the coolest song ever made:

Just listen to that Riff! That's AWESOME!

So Escapist, what do YOU think is the coolest song in the world? (Hint Hint: I said coolest, not your favourite, remember to justify it!)

I have two immediate ones here :

How can you not think of Tom Wait's as the coolest bastard ever? That uncomfortable grunt says more about his music than almost any other musician I care to think of.Plus the riff is pretty sweet.

And the other :

Bruce has quite the voice, but when I heard it combined with such chunky, tuned down guitar riffs, I was overwhelmed by Coolness.

The riff that kicks off after the first line is epic.

Word! :D

Though when it comes to Dire Straits there is one song that reigns supreme, in coolness and everything else.

BrokenCYDE is what she listens to, that should be enough to dicate what she doesn't like (anything that doesn't involve heavy bass). My sister is most likely brain damaged (shes stupid enough to be)

She'd probably say that James Blunt is lame, therefore meaning you would think Blunt is cool. And James Blunt is not cool. He is infact, uncool.

Please try again.

Very good choice of song. Not a big fan of that album but Chelsea Smile kicks copious amounts of arse.

And another epic riff for the record:

I don't think this is the coolest song, but it's certainly the coolest music video;

Since "Bad to the Bone" was already mentioned, I'm going with the 2nd coolest song I know.

Tremble in awe at the wonderful combination of Rock'n'Roll and bearded manliness.
