I saw that one on the steam store, it looked pretty good, didn't quite get what the gameplay style is, how does it play?

It's a point & click PC adventure game in the same vein as titles like Monkey Island, King's Quest, or Grim Fandango only with a far more heavy emphasis on story and dialogue over puzzles. Dreamfall: Chapters is also the third game in the series, with the previous two games being The Longest Journey, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, and now Chapters with plans for a fourth game called The Longest Journey: Home at some point in the future hopefully.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in I highly recommend starting with the original Longest Journey or at least Dreamfall: TLJ as Chapters relies pretty heavily on the player having previous knowledge of the series. They all great games as long as you're willing to look past some gameplay issues and, well, a lack of much real gameplay in favour of witty dialogue and a fantastic plot.

Thanks, I'll have to give those a look, I'll make sure to give the older two a go first. Focussing on dialogue and plot's probably better for me anyway, I've never loved the point-and-click style gameplay too well.

So, I was pondering on how the recent cyberpunk sounds and how in would could should sound too keep up with the times.
A while ago, cyberpunk was techno. But now we have dubstep, techstep, neurofunk and other types of dehumanised distinctly electronic music. Maybe something does compliment the cyberpunk tone better than...

These two are kind of weird. Anime, duh.
This one is Psycho Pass op. And I think that j-rock is as far from cyberpunk sound as it gets.

New Syndicate's music isn't so hot in my opinion, but I will admit, it is very atmospheric. And this is why also is suitable.
It doesn't matter if it is eletronic,techno,rock,etc, as long as it is suitable with the Cyberpunk World we see.

Now this music you hear is Cyberpunk Theme? Not really, but it is suitable for this specific game.

So in the end it doesn't matter as long as the music is the right one.

I must put Hard Reset also. I am very sure is Cyberpunk, but you kill mostly robots I think.

One of my personal favourites was Bloodnet. An excellent title, but there's no hand-holding, making it really easy to fail-- you may not find out that you've hit the wall until an hour or two later, when you can't complete an objective/event. EDIT: A great novel that just popped into my mind is Pat Cadigan's Mindplayers.

There's an old Blade Runner game as well which is supposed to be surprisingly good, although I haven't played it myself so don't really know much beyond that I've heard it's good.

As a huge fan of point-and-click adventures, I can tell you that Blade Runner is fantastic. The world is dynamic. Certain events are randomised each time you start a new game, and characters go about their business as you conduct your investigations, so there are plenty of variables. I love the conversation system; you can use a pre-set demeanour, like Surly, or you can go user choice and select options manually. You get some great moments with familiar faces, too. It honestly amazes me that the cyberpunk genre hasn't completely evaporated. It's redundant - simply by being alive, right now, you are officially playing the worlds most realistic cyberpunk game. I relay this message to you via the internet, a virtual space within which epic battles are currently being fought between warring zaibatsu, government forces, hackers, extremists and non-partisan, tech-savvy individuals. Hey a spaceship blew up the other day - a spaceship containing top-secret encryption hardware. Corporations now officially own the patent on your genes and the genes of the shit you eat - and they jealously guard that victory of victories with a heavily armed private militia...

I could go on, but I'm sure you get the point. Want to be a solo? Cut off your arm, get one of those fancy new bionic arms, buy a katana and some body armour and go and see how many "baddies" you can slash up, before a heavily armed government response team turn up and swiss-cheese your sorry ass. LARP bitches!

Seriously, in six years it will literally be 2020. What I'm saying is that if cyberpunk is still a genre then that genre has been subsumed by "Contemporary Fiction" or I guess "Near Future"

just found this thread and wanted to add our tip:

We recently released Sinless, an old-school inspired point&click cyberpunk adventure on iOS and Android. Regarding gameplay: If you are familiar with old-school dynamix games like Rise of the Dragon or the more recent Danganropa/Phoenix Wright(although less text-heavy and more exploration oriented, still a lot of text though) or 1112 you should feel right at home.
