So the open beta of the mass-hyped Darkfall was supposedly released today. A ground breaking fantasy MMO that's been promising features that gamers dream of.
The non-level-based PVP heavy game has been in the works for 7 years and counting. But is it wearing the guise of a mass scam? It's being developed by a Greek company that nobody seems to have heard of that has absolutely no portfolio, it's been in the works for what is coming up to a decade, without so much as an official trailer, neither closed or open beta NDAs have been broken what-so-ever, there are no signs of a pre-order or release from any retailers, and lastly, is it just too good to be true?
"A map the size of World of Warcrafts eleven fold, allowing guilds to contstruct their own castles wherever they please on the map."
"A non-class RPG where, if you want to be good at blade, you use a blade. If you want to be a good spellcaster, you cast spells."
"Combat can take place man vs man, mounts vs mount, ship vs ship."
"If you want to be good at stealth, you don't just whack a ton of points in stealth, you just play stealthily."
The list of unique MMO features goes on and on.
The original release date for this game was today, but it's been delayed (within the week) to the 25th Feb. The reasons given were keep up with demand by creating more servers, and to arrange a pre-order. Predictions are being thrown around that all the evidence of this games existence is just a strongly thought out and well executed scam and the company is going to wait for hundreds of thousands of pre-orders and just run off with the cash.
What's your opinion? Are you 'suade by the rumours? Or is it just plain craziness?
P.s. Here's a fairly hilarious subtitle movie on the events of Darkfall:
