I have heard a lot of storys about this poker hand called the dead man hand, but I have no idea what it is. Can anyone here tell me what the cards are in the hand and why it's called that. And what is it worth in poker terms. Thank you.

You know...a simple Google of the topic would have brought you to the Wikipedia page which could tell you everything you needed to know. We're not your personal database and I would suggest avoiding threads like these in the future.

OT: Its double pair of Eights and Aces. It was given the Deadman's Hand because Buffalo Bill was murdered in a poker game with that combination.

It kind of defeats your point when you tell him anyway.
I've seen people put on Modwrath for just pointing out that sort of stuff and not adding to the conversation. I'd rather not be among them.

Fixed that for you.

I'd guess it's just like normally, two pairs. Just a name for that specific pair, I don't think it has any specific value.

This page dosn't tell me what it's worth.
It's not a bad hand to have in poker. For what it's worth? That all depends on the play. It could be someones whole stack if they go all-in with you, could be yours because he/she has a straight, and also nothing if you fold and don't have the blinds.

Two pair. Poker doesn't do anything special with exceptions for certain hands (unless you're playing by some odd rules). In fact, it works the other way around: A royal flush is just an ace-high straight flush. Without the special name it'd still sit in the exact same spot in the hierarchy as it does.

The only way black aces and black eights is worth more is its narrative worth in fiction when you want to show someone playing poker is gonna die.

You know, its funny. There's a lot of threads out there that simple google searches, or even asking a friend or two, will supply the needed answer(s). But, that's why we have these discussion forums also.

Shitting on a guy and threatening him because you feel you speak for the moderators is poor form. You should be setting an example as a poster of 8K+ comments, not coming off so heavy-handed.

To the OP: I'm glad you brought it up. I've never heard of it before and the history to the hand in relation to Buffalo Bill is kinda cool.
What does my Post count have to do with anything? It just signifies how many times I have written into one of these text boxes and hit that small little button labeled "Post". It doesn't mean I have a higher power over anyone. And no, these forums are meant to discuss certain topics of the internet. Not for finding a certain pop culture fun fact that I learned from watching the History Channel. And now this thread doesn't serve a purpose now that the question is answered. A nice little topic to go with the question for discussion might have been "Name an old name/ saying you don't understand." or "Explain an old saying." Its a helpful peice of advice and its to avoid him making the same mistake again. I'm not talking down on him like a child, just pointing the obvious.

Its not worth anything special. Its litterally just a normal two pair.

Thank you. There are far too many Bills to keep track of in the Wild West.

Sometimes the hand of a deceased man will end up mixed up in a deck of cards. If this card is accidentally dealt out it is known as a 'dead man's hand'. I hope this helps.

Oh, and as an interesting side note, it is sometimes referred to as a 'Holy diver! What the hell are you doing with that thing?'

Pushing up the ante, I know you got to see me
read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die
The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be
the Ace of Spades

Ace and Eights like every one has said, two pair, aces high. It was known as the Dead Man's hand before Wild Bill was shot.

And don't forget the joker!

EDIT: Deadwood on ABC2 tonight for the Australia Escapists, don't fucking miss it you hoople headed cocksuckers!

Two pair: aces and 8's, Wild Bill Hickock was holding it when he was shot in the back of the head.

Not only does he ask pertinent questions, he's literate, too!
Sorry if this makes me sound stupid. But is that coplerment or a insult?

Ps, sorry about spelling.
