Well, it depends. My family isn't in the Bayou kinda South, but we're definitely Southern. And there's two types of Southern, really- There's the modern "Southern" involving people with strong religious and political beliefs, who are just like everyone else in the country other than their accents, and then there's the kinds of people who, while sporting modern amenities and technologies, still exhude the same mentality from 100 years ago. White column manor homes in the rolling, forested hills, private country clubs, areas referred to as, "In town" that are smaller than a hospital lot.
Or iced tea on the porch on a lazy summer afternoon. The people are fickle in their own way, but with a sense of social etiquette. Those sorts of places do still exist, but no one seems to notice.
Just thinking about it gives me a haughty attitude and sense of entitlement...
