So I've heard many good things about this series but give me a few reasons why it is so good and why should I look into it?

It has exploding metal boxes that you can throw at doors to open them. If you play it then you can become one of those boring old farts who is always going on and on about how great Deus Ex is and how every single game should be exactly like it.

Because your main character can turn the worst of situations into something hilarious.

Also, there's a giant half-mechanised German man called Gunther. He thinks soda machine men conspire against him. That should be enough.

The first game hasn't aged well. It looks terrible, the controls are clunky, and it is kind of just a big pile of crap, at least for the first few missions. I couldn't force myself to play much longer than that.

Why was it so bad? I hear it got great reviews
Invisible War is not shit in any way. It's a great game. The problem is that it completely fails to live up to the original game, and everyone insists on comparing it only to the original game and never to all the other shooters which are much worse.

As for the original game, it is fantastic. The only problem it has is that it is very hard to get into in the first place.
It doesn't auto-save, so you can lose hours of progress if you're not careful and the controls can be quite annoying to start with. And, of course, nowadays the graphics are awful.
But, once you've played the game enough to get used to it's quirks, it becomes the game everyone talks about.

The first game was great for it's time, but pretty crap for someone playing it today. It's very clunky, very unintuitive, the controls are terrible, and it generally just doesn't hold up to today's standards. Check it out if you want to see a classic, don't check it out if you want an enjoyable gaming experience.

I never played the second game so can't comment on that.

Invisible War isn't bad, it just doesn't really hold a candle to the original.

You can change the controls, there's a few mods (and directX 9/10 renders) to make the game look better, and I admit the first mission is terrible. Everything after that, however, is pretty good. (at least in my opinion)

Deus Ex 3-Return of Awesomeness.

It's coming out sometime in the future. So I'd say this is a series to look into.
