[Qué]

1: The spanish word for "what" and its variants.

Example: "¿Por qué no te callas?"

--------------

[Queue]

1: A braid of hair usually worn hanging at the back of the head
2: A waiting line especially of persons or vehicles
3a: A sequence of messages or jobs held in temporary storage awaiting transmission or processing
3b: A data structure that consists of a list of records such that records are added at one end and removed from the other

Example: "This queue is so short today!"

---------------

In other words people, Qué is NOT a shortened form of Queue.

The more you know...

...Well, that was interesting. Thank you.
Did you hit "Post" before finishing, by the way? Yes, yes you did.

But thanks for this interesting piece of information most of us know.
Tell me more about why you've posted this thread. Did someone misuse it today around you?

These are not grammar forums... Moreover, I think everyone realizes those are two different words. What were your intentions upon creating such a post?

I've never even heard of a queue, so I can honestly say I learned something form this.
Had you been British we would have had to ask you to emigrate for your ignorance of our most popular national pastime. Since you are not British, carry on.

OP, I take it that this was a written message you recieved that contained this confusion? I'd be incredibly confused if someone thought that they were pronounced the same.

Wait...do you actually know people who have made this mistake? Then you know some pretty weird or stupid people.

Not even for a moment in my life did I believe that Que was short for Queue and I never met a person who did.

Maybe my life has been sheltered or maybe that's a mistake not many people make, i can't rightly say

Never seen queue shortened to Qué, not even with that accent... Can you provide a written example?

Whoops, post-wakeup brain atrophy made me say something without thinking.
Anywho, yeah, not much discussion value.

That's cool. Since we're sharing:

In Arabic, 'Aye-Rawk is the name of a country and 'Aye-rack is a word for battle. Isn't it funny how many people pronounce Iraq like the latter now?

In MMO's, World of Warcraft especially, about 99.9% of the population uses "que" when they should be using "queue." OP apparently snapped about it.

It's a pet peeve of mine as well, but I don't let stupid/lazy people get to me too much.

In that case, they're really speaking French as it has no accent over the "E" in "que."

I have encountered this mistake before. It bugged me a little (a lot), but that was mostly because it was a sign to the queue to, I believe, buying books... for college. Wonderful education at work.

Although, outside of definition 3b I rarely ever hear it used instead of just, you know, line.
