This thread is devoted to the legendary Progressive Metal band Dream Theater. It is for discussing this amazing band and it's members/songs/concerts/whatever you want as long as its Dream Theater related.

To get disscussion going, what is your favorite Dream Theater song?

Mine would probably have to be This Dying Soul, It starts off with a bang and continues to be an epic song the whole way through.

That is a really good song off one of their best albums. Images and Words was what got Dream Theater famous.

My favourite song is tied between Endless Sacrifice and Sacrificed Sons (do I just like that word or something). And just throwing this in but does anyone else notice that the singer (don't know his name sorry) really lacks in live performances compared to his studio work?

I used to like them, but then Mike Portnoy started pissing me off.
The band's gotten too technical.. to the point where it's now piss-boring.

Hate to be the lone douchebag purposefully bringing a bucket of negativity into this thread, but my utter sickness of the band as a whole leads me to quote an earlier post of mine.

You've got to be joking. Not only are DT one of the most overrated bands in the history of music, but their pretentious tendencies toward being "progressive" continue to obfuscate the fact that they're just another shitty metal band with clean vocals. What exactly makes people believe they are so special?

"Hurr hurr, their drummer uses a double-bass pedal, and I can hear the bass guitar over the rest of the track. They're so unique and talented!"

Sorry to sound like a troll, but this is really an issue on the internet, where people can be seen tonguing James Labrie's balls all the way from here to 4chan.

I first heard about Dream Theater when Guitar Player magazine talked about them in 1989 or whnever their debut album came out. So I went and listened to that album and was staggered by its mediocrity. It wasn't exactly bad, just depressingly average, and the songs themselves were not really catchy or interesting at all - they just seemed like they were written in 5 minutes as something for the singer to do to break up the guitar solos. But for all their pretensions to be something more, Dream Theater are basically at their core a hair-metal band and for that alone I don't like them. To me they're basically Motley Crue with overlong guitar solos and needlessly fussy, show-offy arrangements. I'm really glad that where I live they never really broke through commercially.

I don't know any of their songs but still headbanged at their concert. Not a bad band.
