I have had my xbox 360 for about nearly two years and today i switch on my xbox and got one red light (the E74 error as it is called). I hear it's just as bad as getting RROD (three red lights) which as you proberly know if you've had a 360 is a full hardware failure.

Im trying to do the towel trick now in a desperate attempt to fix the problem. I am hoping the machine will overheat fixing the soldering of the loose chips.

If it doesn't work however at least i have my PS3 to play on so its not all lost.

To add discussion to this topic have you ever had any errors or hardware faults with your 360?

I'm on my fourth 360. I wish i was joking. I've had a slew of 3 RROD. The only reason i kept buying a new one was that i had so many damn games for the 360 that it would have been impractical to sell them, and i still had friends i wanted to play with on Xbox Live. The console is very very shoddy and you can tell when you open the thing they built it very cheaply. The thermal adhesive they use is a piece of shit and crumbles away causing the heat sink to fail and the whole thing overheats and fries, causing the RROD. Sometimes applying new thermal adhesive can solve this problem, it did for me for a couple days but then it broke for good. I have taken so many xbox 360's apart now that i know them like the back of my hand. Seriously why could they just not use Arctic Silver for that adhesive it's not like it would cost them that much more than the cheap shite they already use, unless this is what is referred to in production as 'planned obsolescence'.

..I have fixed multiple Xboxes with the "Replace their cheap adhesives w/ pennies" trick.

If you haven't heard of this method, and you do not have a warranty left on your xbox, you might want to check it out.

EDIT: Forgot to add, my xbox is still living 2 years after this method

I got red ringed at one point, but I was actually able to bring it back to life. dont ask how, I think it was pure luck and good karma. other than that, no.

don't know about E74, but E73 is just a slap in the face, especially if you don't play online

What an E73 error is, is a "Ethernet Port Failure"

Meaning the ethernet port broke.

And when it does, the system bricks.

E74 might be under extended warranty.. I know one of the E## errors was extended.

Holy shit, I had the E74 error earlier this week too. Damn, that's unfortunate for the both of us. I called Microsoft yesterday, and I'm shipping it tomorrow.

Last week my 4th Xbox Red ringed on me.

I bought a 250gig 360 S - Its Microsoft's last console I will ever buy in my life time. I don't expect this one to last longer than 2 years. Even if it is new hardware. MS has shown to me they don't give a rats ass about their customers and they will cut corners at every chance they get.

The only reason I bought this one was I had the cash to spare (was going to buy a Wii) and with over 34 360 games + tons of DLC and hardware I can't afford to walk away at this point. That and I am about half way through Forza 3 and Mass Effect 2. Once those games are done I will prob sell the entire lot and build up my PS3 collection more than it is.

Mine red ringed once.
That was it, and it's going three years strong now.
Likewise.

OT: Sorry for you loss, but hey, at least you could get a model upgrade.

I've had 2 red ring on me now. The second one RRoD'd well outside of warranty but I rang Xbox support anyway, the man on the phone claimed I was still within warranty and it would be repaired free. Obviously I didnt argue, sent it off and got a brad new one with a letter explaining my old one was so badly broken it was beyond repair so they replaced it.

I brought it second hand and im surpised it actually went for as long as it did.

Guess it was inevitable i suppose.

Same issue. Had to send it in. Remove the faceplate and pack it well. Your lucky you have a backup system and I think you get some free live JIC. Also, it may be covered by warranty.

That sucks, I know certain shops can do repairs. The Play and Trade near me charges only 60 bucks for repairs.

My Xbox E74'd on me before. I though it was rather funny. I had just bought Saints Row 2, and 15 minutes into my free roam it shit the bed on me. I did chuckle slightly, then sent it in and resorted to a PS2 for several weeks. That was a nice blast from the past.

Jeez, I've had my Xbox since December '08. Not a single problem. Am I doing it wrong?
You forgot how to spell "PS3", mate.

Jokes aside, I didn't have my Xbox360 long enough for it to break.

I proberly won't get it fix because the fixing prices are ridiculous you might aswell buy another one.

I don't live in the Us i live in england so that means the prices are much, much dearer.

I've had 2 360's die via E74's. One was an Elite...which really pissed me off. Worst console ever.

My NES from 1987 still works and that thing has endured cold, heat, condensation, time, and a lot of use. And it's 23 years old. Suck it, MS.
