I got flamed for suggesting this on another post but they should come up with some sort of fantasy equivalent of VATS; ranged magic and archery were pretty worthless in Oblivion.
Oh come on, it wasn't really flaming and it was a stupid idea. I don't want a pixie following me round...
That's why I said it was a stupid idea. It did take me all of 3 seconds to think of it and I don't even think I would like my FATS (Fairy Assisted Targeting System) idea realized but Oblivion really needed something like VATS for ranged magic.
I'm sure the guys at Bethesda could come up with something better given a minute or two.
I think most people who played Oblivion would agree that the combat would've been better if it had a VATS-like system.

Things to do better in V:
More voice actors
Better level-ing system. The FO3 seemed to work pretty well (saving areas where you have been to your then-level)
Better main quest - it got boring pretty fast, and the oblivion gates were hell (hurr)
More diverse actors and comments
I'de add to that list "Fallout-like combat effects", not that I'm a huge gore fan but Oblivion was just...fail. I mean come on (and I wonder why Yahtzee didn't include this in his review), especially melee fighting was rather like hitting someone with a pillow untill he/she/it suddenly dies of laughter. It just looked retarted, or folks running around with 50 arrows piercing from there chest, like nothing has happened. Also, ofcourse, please don't make npc's scary and soulless anymore.

Hmmm no I would've prefered it without and I don't think 5 would need it as well. It's just meeh with fireballs and arrows, at least in Fallout you had exploding heads :D Besides, I had a pretty awesome scout character, enemies usually died before they could even touch me. Untill I ran out of arrows in a place I couldn't leave...then I made a new character.

As for where it would be, after reading the topic a bit I'de love to see it in Akavir or Summerset Island, the latter would definatly need to do something with boats and piracy.

Dude, I was only kidding around. Something like that would be helpful for magic though, not so sure about melee combat.

Cos I was too young to remember the others the first game in the series i played was Morrowind and that was basically my life about a year and a half in secondary school. Christ I must have learnt every trick, used most kinds of items and I know for sure i did my best to try and visit everything they put in. I remember getting dead psyched about Oblivion but for all its improvements and the fact that I adored that game too it jsut didn't have the atmosphere of Morrowind for me. The graphic and combat updates were nice and in my opinion yes the combat in Oblivion was quite good when you compare it to Morrowinds but with the easy fast travel and shrunken environment it just was quite as adventurous. Especially since most Cyrodil was lush and green so didn't really put across the exotic adventure the Ash wastes did in Morrowind. So I hope whatever they do with Elder Scrolls V its bigger than oblivion and perhaps has a bit more story depth.

They've got plenty of new locations in the TES lore to visit. Nirn is a big planet. Tamriel isn't the only continent on it for what I've read. Maybe we'll go to a different place on Nirn in The Elder Scrolls V.

Somewhere where like enlightenment is happening to give a mix of new and old cultures clashed, I guess I want to be somewhere that isnt fully developed and I am praying for much less dungeons.

Fun of course would be nice

I'm voting for either Skygrim, Hammerfall, or the Summerset Isles

It would also be interesting if they tied in the plot from the recent Elder Scrolls Novel: The Infernal City

Seeing Umbriel in action would kick unparamounted levels of ass

I want it to take place in the Summerset Isles. That seems like such a nice place, what with the name and the Elves and the Feudal Japanese-styled society.

And my stubborn Elven heritage in any and every RPG has gotten my racially oppressed in DA:O and now I want to racially oppress humans as an Elf in another game.

I want it to be in Hammerfell, exploring the Redgaurd warrior culture.

News has come up that ESV might be coming out in 2010.

And that it might take place in Skyrim!

ROCK ON! F*CKING VIKINGS! YEAH!

I like Skyrim.

In late October 2008, shortly after the release of Fallout 3, Bethesda's Publishing Executive, Paul Oughton, indicated that the series' fifth installment could be released in 2010.[3] Zenimax, the owner of Bethesda Softworks, had trademarked the name "Skyrim" in 2006,[4] but its relation to the fifth installment of the series is uncertain.

Of all the sources... Wikipedia? The open edit Behemoth? That rumor has been around since 2006, link me to a press statement that it IS a confirmed rumor, and that it IS slated for 2010. 2006 was 4 years ago, a lot can change.

Maybe Blackmarsh since, if any of you care about the lore that went into the elder scrolls, they have a lot of political problems.

Hopefully a better combat system. You know, so it seems like you're actually doing some damage when you swing a hammer with a head the size of a midget.

And also some cool magic effects. Like if you use a high level fire spell, you can hear their flesh sizzling. Or a shock spell- you see them jerk spasmodically (maybe merge shock/paralysis effects?)

Also, a better leveling system. I didn't like it if I rolled mage, and I happened to level more quickly in Illusion+ Destruction than in Resto (even if I used the three schools equally, spell caliber or not). Same problem with Marksman; I'd have to find a trainer to help me stay above water.

Finally: more mounts. Now, I'm not saying I hate horses, but they just get so boring after a while. How about a dragon? Shit, the lore, that's right. How about giant lizards?

Possibly a change in main quest plot.

In Oblivion, you were dealing with demons and evil wizards during the main quest, I suggest the next Elder Scrolls game featured something like dealing with a warring nation that's going against Tamriel.

Also, I'd like to see crossbows as usable weapons, being able to fight while on your horse, and for the Arena to still be a joinable faction.

I'd like to see one in Skyrim, and it's speculated the next one will be set there.

I'm a sucker for snowy areas, and it would be pretty.

IT will be a merging of Quake, Doom, and Morrowind.
