Hey everyone

Just thought I'd let ya'll know that there's a Steam sale going on until 9 AM. 66% off The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, making the GOTY Edition Deluxe only $6.79.

So if you've ever wanted a chance to play Oblivion, but didn't want to spend too much money on it... now's your chance.

Tempting. I've long considered getting Oblivion on the PC. I played the 360 version and it had many flaws that eventually drove me to hate it, but I get the feeling some of those could be modded away. Anyone happen to know if there are any mods to fix the leveling system, or at least make it so that level-dependent quest rewards can be leveled up somehow?
Oh yeah. theres TONS of mods to fix every problem you could possibly think of with Oblivion. In my opinion the best place to start searching for mods is the TESNexus's top 100 page. You'll want things like Oblivion Mod Manager and Wyre Bash to help organize and keep your newly downloaded mods from screwing over your entire game.

Be careful though, don't go installing like 1000 mods all at once. It's a ***** to find out which one screws over your game if you do.

Eight hundred million bajillion.

www.tesnexus.com

just check out the top 50 mods, it's really the best way to make the game good. I highly endorse deadly reflex (fun melee combat! Gasp!), Midas Magic (yay! lots of spells! SORT of unbalancing, though..) and Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul. I'm not sure if OOO fixes the leveling at all, but if not I'm sure there's a guide for it that recommends one.

I may look into getting this, but can anyone tell me what the difference between the GOTY and GOTY Deluxe editions are?

Dam thats $6.79 more then I paid and more then I would ever pay for that game. I mean 66% off is a great deal not as great when you consider the fact that they were overcharging for the game to begin with but its still a deal. Im not going to buy it myself if I wanted it I would have paid the $10-15 it sells for in retail stores already.

If you do get it you WILL need mods to fix the extremely outdated combat system and the horribly broken leveling that actually hurts you for taking skills that you use.

I do love steams marketing ploys like this, they truely are great businessmen.
In what way is the combat system highly outdated? The leveling system was off, admittedly, but i think calling it horribly broken is a bit far.

Its 4 years old so it's hardly ancient, and it's widely considered to have been a fantastic RPG, even without mods. All in all its a pretty good deal, and the fact that you personally didn't enjoy it doesn't detract from the good value of this offer.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Deluxe includes Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles expansions plus Fighter's Stronghold Expansion, Spell Tome Treasures, Vile Lair, Mehrune's Razor and much more.

Okay cool, for only a dollar and change more that seems like a great deal. Time to cross off another game off of the list of "Games I've never played but probably should try".
