The Elder Scrolls online- The Alliances Cinematic Trailer

Well, impressive as it was, I couldn't tell any of the factions apart. I couldn't even tell what race was what.

If you've researched the game a bit (http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/game-guide) it's really easy to tell apart what the races and factions are.

Why did they have to go for generic white males (obviously being Imperials and/or Nords) as the main attraction, and then either a Bosmer or Altmer female that just looked like a person with pointy ears?

Nords and Imperials are all/or predominately white and the Redguards are all black, im pretty sure its so people can tell which race is which, and it sticks to the general look of the races. As for the following races being the main attraction...

- The Daggerfall Covenant is ruled by a Breton (Redguards and Orcs belong in this faction)

- The Ebonheart Pact is ruled by a Nord (Dark Elves and Argonians)

- The Aldmeri Legion is ruled by, who else, the High Elves (Wood elves, Khajiit)

Notice a pattern?

As for the elves, the female is definitely Altmer. Altmers are known for spellcraft and Bosmers are known for their expertise in Archery. I'm guessing the people who were following the Altmer were all Bosmers, since they generally like hunting (How many Bosmer archers have you encountered that LOVE hunting?) and their armor makes them look like hunters, there is the possibility that one of the people in that armor is Khajiit but with the blur effects in the video its really hard to tell.

Why couldn't the badass guy with the slick bow and knife skills have been an Argonian?

Apparently in Lore, Bretons are known for being really deadly assassins(This was pointed out by a Youtube comment, take it or leave it.) Also, if an Argonian was the assassin it would not make sense, the Argonians belong in a different faction.

Thanks for the effort you put in your reply, but I am an Elder Scrolls fan, and I do know what is happening, who the factions are, and about all the races. My comments were more towards how the trailer was so generic that there was nothing predominately Elder Scrolls about it.

Sorry, but I'm kind of like, "yeah.....I know. I too am a fan of the series."

This better not be a preview of all the races in the game. As if that's true, then this will just be a generic fantasy setting with the TES name lazily slapped onto it. No Khajiit and Argonians, and elves and such looking very generic and nothing like in the TES games...yea, not looking good. It would really, really not be a TES game any more if all you could play was nords, imperials and altmer. (I think?) The three people circling each other in the end, I mean.

But other than that yes, Honestly I didn't really think the trailer was all that generic despite being similar to other trailers, it was about the Alliances and the war and what better way to show it than...well, the Alliances going to war.

Oh, and I still got the Elder Scrolls vibe. The trailer I feel is showing you how different TES:O is going to be. It's an MMO, so the experience is going to be so so drastically changed(Captain Obvious STRIKES AGAIN! more at 11.) Thankfully the devs are trying to keep the combat as close to an ES game as possible and hopefully they'll succeed in that regard.

No, you'll be able to play every race except the Imperials afaik. And there is an Argonian in the cinematic, no Khajiits in the cinematic I think. I don't blame people for fearing the worst (I was one of them,) as we all know most MMO's just copy the WoW formula (which is not a bad thing, mind)and not many try to innovate the genre, only Guild Wars 2 is an MMO that comes to mind that was innovative or different. Many people would just think that this is going to be a heavily Hotkey-based game that doesn't feel like Elder Scrolls gameplay at all, but right now it sounds like they just simply improved aspects of the MMO genre and taped as much of the EC into it, which is exactly what they should be doing. =D

I mean, hell, I have always wished for the Elder Scrolls to have a co-op, so that me and my buddy could save The Imperial City, or defend a castle, or anything in these amazing games, and yeah, I have also sometimes wished for an MMO. Imagine a bunch of people holing up in a castle, setting ambushes for the people who cross near there. Imagine that a couple of people banded together, and with the help of the guard, pushed the bandits out of the castle.

Imagine, being a swindling merchant, travelling to Anvil or Whiterun or even Vivec city, to sell your amazing West Dickens (cough cough reference) tonics to all of the towns folk. Imagine living just out of the Imperial City, and heading into town to sell your crops. Taking the money back to buy more, only to then be invaded by some ra- er... goblins and invisible bears (fuck I loved that quest XD)

What would you do? Would you run, leaving behind everything? Would you fight? Would you leave to find a worthy adventurer, who would slay the Level 5 beasts invading your Castle. (A man's home is his castle.)

But all of this, everything I wished would happen, all are played out like any Elder Scrolls game. Same combat, same skills, same people, same everything.

What I do not want is a rip-off MMO which completely changes the style of the game to "Generic MMO press 1-2-3."

I wanted it to be like Skyrim, charging in and hitting Mouse Button 1 to attack, swinging your axe. Not like WoW, running in and pressing 1 to cast Fireball. Then waiting. Then pressing 1 to cast Fireball.

I am just so sad that instead of an epic, open, multi-conitent Elder Scrolls game, we are getting something completely different, with the Elder Scrolls name plastered on.

The biggest thing for me was connecting to the world of Elder Scrolls. Frankly that just doesn't happen in the kind of run around accept quests get wolf hearts jump on lamp post hand in wolf hearts run out of town kind of MMO.

Yes, it's horribly generic and full of "PHWOAAAARRRR!! Look how badass this is!!!" Just a while ago, we had the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer, and it at least took a shot at originality. This one looks like a pre-made trailer you can paste onto any high fantasy title. Hell, maybe that's what it is. Two Steps From Hell specializes in generic trailer music, and Blur took the next logical step.

No offense, but you're jumping to conclusions way too fast and judging the game on a cinematic which was not meant to be focused on the main story. The game is going to have common MMO aspects that you see in almost every other MMO, but it's not going to be a WoW Clone, far from it.

Yeah, the trailer was pretty generic, but so was the Cyberpunk 2077 one. The whole "Slow-motion-camera-moving-dramatic-shots-and-cool-looking-stuff" styles been done so many times as well.

It doesn't really show the Alliances very well. Because all I saw was a Nord killing a Werewolf, an Elf woman who looks nothing like any race, climbing a tower, and an Assassin guy who I thought was first a Thalmor doing stupid unrealistic fantasy stuff. And some Imperials of course.

But yeah...where were the Argonians and the Orcs and the Khajit and the Dunmer? The races that help define TES?

I really liked it. Usually I'm a little more negative towards Bethesda as a PS3 user, but this just kicked ass. Mainly that assassin impressed me. Though I'm sure the actual game won't look anything like that and would still melt my PC, I would still like to play it. Or just see some more little films like that. I didn't see any orcs though. I thought the Nord was one until I saw his face.

I watched it on full screen and if you look carefully in the background you do see Argonians, Orcs and Khajiit, they just don't get a lot of screen time.

The Nords, Altmer and Bretons are the sort of "Leaders" of each Alliance kind of like how the Orcs and Humans are leaders of the Horde and Alliance respectively.

The trailer didn't really feel as Elder Scrolls as I would have liked, but big deal. Have you seen the screen shots? The game itself is totally Elder Scrolls. I just signed up for the beta and cannot wait for this to be released.

I really liked it. Hell it might be generic but I like fantasy in general so hell, bring it on.

And for those saying it wasn't elder scrolls. The fighters helm, the imperial city in the background, the ways spells were cast and visualised. Yeah I saw the elder scrolls in that film.

and elfs without pointy ears? seriously? go find a morrowind altmer picture, and admit your errors.

Well that was an awesome piece of cinema, creepily lifelike even.

But it is in no way related to the game, hell I never even saw CGI this good from Bethesda ergo it is most likely from a completely different studio, also considering the characters look nothing like their TES counterparts that is a fair assumption.
I do want to see more from them though, who ever is hired to make this should seriously consider a full feature film, would be far more exciting then another MMO.

You're saying they wasted their entire budget on this trailer, they didn't. It gave the game attention and that is pretty much one of the reasons they made this to begin with. Though its a shame they didn't put much screen time into the other races though...

I'm seeing people complain about how this trailer is generic and 'not Elder Scrolls' and while I love it, come on guys, Elder Scrolls is pretty much just fantasy universe 101. At least at face value, so I'd say this trailer shows it off pretty well.

Shame the game itself won't be anything close to the trailer though.

I'm saying they should have made a trailer that highlighted what makes their game special, not just show us something generically "cool." So far as I know, parkour and zombie werewolves are not staples of the TES franchise; they're just a list of things that the marketing department (that has no idea what the game is really about) thinks will appeal to teenage boys. I'm not saying it ain't pretty, I'm just saying it's not much of a representation of the game itself... unless I get to do bridge-fu in game.
