"We'll only make a ES5 if we can renew the concept".

But I'm sure he just said it to lower the expectations, so we'll be all like:

I didn't mind most of the flaws other people found in Oblivion, and liked it a lot (although morrowind was indeed better at the time imho). But please please please get rid of the level balancing.

I want to go exploring outside of the quests, get my behind handed to me by some crazed wizard in a seemingly abandoned castle, go somewhere else to find me that Soul Sucking Sword of Seven Sorrows, and then kick that friggin' lunatic all the way back to Oblivion.

Long and repetitive with nothing knew that other games haven't tried before, horribly slow as you keep running out of run (Seriously, what is wrong with that?? You want to turn Elder Scrolls from a nicely sized, nicely proportioned game into an necessarily drawn out complex boring mess. God help us if you end up becoming a game developer.

It's hard to take you seriously when you exaggerate like that. If you explained your points rationally, I'd probably nod my head knowingly, even though I roundly disagree.

I too joined the boards due to this thread. If you all want to play the best Elder Scrolls game, play Daggerfall, the second installment.

*The combat system was the best of any game I have ever played.
*It was far more open ended then any other RPG.
*So many more factions and things to do that you really felt you lived in a different world.
*Morrowind was .01% the size of Daggerfall...

In fact, I think a port of Daggerfall to the Nintendo DS or even as a WiiWare game would be great for the franchise. I do believe the fans, including the fans who don't want innovation and just great graphics would gain a great understanding of where this franchise's roots are. (Note the Daggerfall combat system responded to mouse movements. Swing the mouse left, you slashed left. Down to up is a stab. Ect...

All people are saying the old ones are better so maybe I should rename the thread to why the "original" Elder Scrolls series was better than ES:4. I originally posted this to find out what people wanted in the ES:5. That seems to have gone to pot. Also even if ES:2 and ES:1 were far superior to Oblivion in all but graphics it is unfortunate that more recent operating systems won't be compatible with these games. If I got the chance and had the money (And the time) I would try all the Elder Scrolls properly and see which one I preferred. But still as the title of the forum explains I wanted to hear are thoughts, fact or fiction, good or bad, about ES:5 when it comes out in the distant future.

Forget arguing over which area of Tamriel to set ES5- just make it all of Tamriel!
I want to see more customisation classes, like there was in Morrowind, ie insted of Oblivion's heavy armour vs light armour, lets see unarmoured, light armour, heavy armour and medium armour again, then maybe something else like magic armour.
Get rid of the instant travel idea, but bring back things like boats, guild-guides and stilt striders.
Better voice acting
Better combat
Leveled weapons and enemies down the drain

@Expect an anouncemnt on The Elder Scrolls V to be made BEFORE Fall of 2009. Fallout 3 will be released Fall 2008, and with Bethesda's track record, Their newest games are usually announced a year after the previous game's release.

There are also rumours that TESV will be an MMO but not a follow-on from Morrowind and Oblivion.

A lot of people seem to like the idea of having an ES game set in Akavir too.

Considering the bulk of TES's playerbase plays it precisely BECAUSE it's not multiplayer, I think they'd anger more people than they'd sell to.

That's not to say I wouldn't give it a try, though...buy game, get free month, Bethesda's still got my fifty bucks...well, we see what THEY'RE thinking...

I would like TES5 to take place in Morrowind again, and this time the whole of Morrowind. If that's not an option Skyrim is my second best.

Kill fast travel
don't give the protagonist and everyone else the stamina of a marathon runner
Bring back the extensive list of skills
Bring back staves and spears for god sakes
Bring back TES3 Dark Elf voice actor
Get rid of every-idiot-can-use-spells/repair armor/join any faction-gameplay
Axes are NOT blunt weapons
Bring back TES3 levelling system
Death to immersion-killing conversation system
Better lore than previous TES
More landscape diversity
Stop making it so damn easy to earn piles of money
Make legendary/very powerful items expensive as hell again (I liked the way the 210000 looked at me while I was checking out my Staff of Magnus in my inventory )
Interesting main story line
Bring back TES3 persuasion system (never understood how my character knew if this person liked being threatened or not, or how much gold you have to give him/her to get god knows how much disposition up)
Get rid of map markers
Make it harder to obtain legendary/Daedric artefacts.
Better AI
Don't tell the player what to do with every quest update; some people can figure out they have to go talk to Johnny because he was last seen with the murder victim themselves.

That's about it, can't think of anything more right now.

Yes I'm a huge TES3 fan and maybe I just like to revive the glory days it was the best one of the series. Loved it, still loving it, will always love it and no RPG I played after pulled me in like that game did.

Say what now? I never said anything about turning it into an MMO, I said I would like the next Elder Scrolls installment to be more like Morrowind again. In case you hadn't noticed almost all the things from my list are how things were in Morrowind. Was that an MMO?
Also, what huge demonic beasts have you fought? Nothing I ever fought was ever twice my size. Yes, you can kill tremendously powerful beings while wearing a metal suit that would put Iron Man to shame, but does that mean you can cross a whole province running at 20 mph without stopping once?

I'm not going for repetitive. Yes, maybe it is a little slow sometimes but you try travel from the south to the north of your country and see how long it takes. Now take a cab and insert a loading screen where travel time used to be, because the latter way is how you could get around in Morrowind. I realise it's just a more cumbersome version of fast travel, but it was directed at fixed locations so you still had to walk a little before you arrived at your destination. I never minded this way of getting around.

I'm starting to doubt you even played Morrowind. In fact I'm under the impression that you only played Oblivion (possibly one of the only semi-extensive RPGs you've played, because that's what Oblivion is: semi-extensive) and found it smooth enough to play through. No rough patches, no effort needed to get done what needed to be done.
I'm seriously doubting your attention span for a good RPG too, because (in my opinion) a good RPG makes you work a little to achieve a goal. That's where the satisfaction in Morrowind comes from for me: Training, putting effort into things you want done and the feeling of accomplishment when you succeed. Placing crippled scamps in a huge fortress that should obviously house more fearsome things is not the way to make me feel proud of clearing the place out. Things like that make me feel that the game thinks it needs to hold my hand through a fight. I'm pretty sure I can handle what I throw myself into. And if not, then it's off to some other quest until I am capable enough.

When you say that The Elder Scrolls is a nicely sized, nicely proportioned game I hope you're talking about Morrowind, because Oblivion is anything but. Courtesy to your nifty marathon runner skills and fast travel from everywhere perk.

But if you're so certain then Bethesda should make another TES like they did Oblivion. It surely seems to be what everybody wants around here.
