Pyro, with a jetpack.

Yeah, incoming flying Phlog Pyros who W+M1 at everything. Before, they at least needed to be good at Detonator/Scorch Shot jumping to Flyro; but now, they can have all of that automated and easy mode.

People are GOING to come out in force against the W+M1 noobs that use the jetpack for easy mobility.

I think there's a joke to be made about TF2 getting content and how it explains why there's been no development on Half-Life 3...or something. :(

The only TF2 update I'd be happy about is if they actually add female skins to their characters, it's a major sausage fest in that game

I've not played TF2 in years, and I just can't see myself getting back into it now that most of the things I liked about the game have been buried under a ton of new junk. Even in its early days I would find it annoying how often servers would dick around with the format by making matches infinitely long, or by replacing the Administrator's dialogue with Quake soundbites, or whatever crap they add to undermine the game design. And that's before a gazillion hats, guns, swords and other stuff was thrown in there.

What I want is basically a vanilla only mode. I'm sure there's one that exists, but I won't bother to look for it.

Meh, nothing new there. They've been doing that since day one, going 'pyro OP', even though the class is arguably outmatched by other classes at almost every role it can fill.

On another note, I've looked over the weapon changes and I'm liking quite a bit of them. The Danger Shield will no longer counter the Sniper's main counter. The new Vitasaw mechanic looks like a fun risk/reward thing. The Pocket Pistol, Bison, Mantreads and Claidheamh Mor may actually start being used (again).

Oh, and the Dead Ringer nerf. I can hear the lamentations of would-be Spy mains already.

There were plenty of vanilla servers when I played two years ago. I can see why you find the new gear annoying since it change's the game's meta every patch but I enjoy them. It is a way of artificially dragging out the learning curve by giving players something new to use. I doubt games like TF2 or LoL would have lasted long if they hadn't churned out content that changed the game.

Absolutely. Boobs > all. Though as a pyro main I can see myself having some fun with this update.

Does this mean we're getting the conclusion to the comic too? Super stoked if so.
It does not.

Having played it is very fun, the new weapons add extra stuff. It handles well and Pyro is better just by the rework they made him.much better to use. Just the feeling of consistently making damage and attacking. Although they nerfed the airblast.

Too little too late for me, I'm afraid. I'm happy for those still playing and enjoying TF2, but that ship has sailed for me. Let me know if they ever implement options to hide cosmetics, revert gameplay and unlocks back to 2010's Engineer Update and abandon their half-assed matchmaking system.

Pfft, DR is a crutch unlock anyway. This former Spy main used the Cloak and Dagger most of the time to great effect. If you know what you're doing (i.e. not sitting in a corner for two minutes to backstab one Sniper and die immediately afterwards) you can wreak havoc and paranoia on the enemy team with it, striking and melting away again before they can react.

This is how I imagine every Spy thinks they play like, but in reality, it's probably close to 1 in every 10 of all Spies actually achieve anything of worth. Doesn't seem like it stops people believing in themselves though, which explains the team comps.

Indeed, I prefer Cloak&Dagger or just regular Invis Watch too. Never liked the Dead Ringer. It teaches you a lot of bad lessons for actually learning how to play Spy. But, like you said, if you can't actually play spy, the DR is the crutch that can keep you upright.

At the risk of sounding like a massive egotist, I was a cut above your typical Spy player. I was consistently at or near the top of the scoreboard, and I knew which targets mattered most given the situation. I used height to my advantage whenever possible and often took unorthodox escape routes to throw off pursuers. I also didn't forget that I had a gun as well, as many W+M1 Pyros learned to their regret. That said, much of my success was on random pubs, so I can't blow my own horn too much. I'm sure many hardened pros could (and did) hand my ass to me.

But yeah, it was frustrating how often I had to play a different class on account of typical pub teams consisting of three or more Spies, many of whom were absolutely awful at it. The worst part was the "monkey see, monkey do" effect, where people would see how well I would be doing as Spy and pile onto the class in the hopes of emulating it, only to fail miserably. Valve really should have implemented class limits on their servers.

So, the update has been out for a few days now, so here's my thoughts so far.

Pyros. Pyros everywhere. The good news is they fixed the flamethrowers particles collision detection, so he/she/it is now the point blank range monster the devs made him/her/it out to be. Bad news? Half your team will be Pyros and so will the enemy. Get ready to be swarmed under a tide of WM1.

Most of the other weapon changes are for the better IMO. Especially the Danger Shield and Dead Ringer. The GRU/Dalokohs combo glitch needs an urgent fix tho. I'm getting tired of matches where there's a bunch of Heavies with 20.000 health running around.

The new maps seem ok so far. Haven't had much time to really get to know all the in and outs.

As for the new weapons.
[li]The Gas Passer is useful in some limited situations, but near worthless outside of that and unlike the Jarate/Mad Milk only really benefits you/other Pyros, rather than the whole team.[/li]
[li]The Thermal Thruster jetpack is fun, but very slow to switch to/from, making it risky as a jump in and burn shit method or as an escape button. It has some use for flanking, but it's noisy, highly visible and much slower and shorter ranged than rocket/sticky jumping.[/li]
[li]The Slap Attack is a joke weapon like the Holy Mackerel or Unarmed attack. Bitchslapping unaware snipers is fun, but other than that, there are better melee options for Pyro (Powerjack, Homewrecker if you Pybro for an Engi)[/li]
[li]The Dragon's Fury. Ooh boy, it probably needs some tweaking to make it less obnoxiously spammable. Maybe reduce ammo suply and projectile speed and size. And fix the dmg vs buildings so a un-Ubered Pyro with no overheal can't win a straight up fight with a lv3 by outspamming it anymore.[/li]
[li]The Second Banana is like a more selfish Sandvich, healing you less, but more often, but throwing it to teammates heals less. Overall[/li]
