The end of gaming

Being able to do anything in a game wouldn't be the perfect game. You can write any story into an empty notebook, does that make it the perfect book? I'll just point at the ZP review of LBP: People buy games for the professionally designed content inside, not the user generated content. Most people have no clue how to design a game and many games don't lend themselves to being much fun if you designed them yourself (you'd have to know the solutions to your own puzzles after all).

I have no reason to repeat the arguments about how to define perfection, but what about defining gaming... The consoles, a large part of them, are all based on the same principal of using a controller to, well, control your character. PS2/3 Xbox/360, are all pretty much the same. Graphics make a game look pretty, but generally add no fun factor to a game. That's why I was drawn to the Wii, it was a breakaway from the other consoles, although it is has about 5 good games on it, which leaves me greatly disappointed. At some point gaming will turn into virtual reality, even to the point where it is a second reality really. But at that stage, could it even be considered a game? There will eventually be a cutoff for what we consider games now, but there are ideas that we haven't even begun to predict because we only have access to the knowledge in the 21st century. In 500 years, games will be something we never could have dreamed of.

If a game was perfect, I have a feeling everyone would buy it. I know I would. I have a feeling that as long as there are people like us gaming will never die.
There's not really much else I can say that hasn't been said on this thread. However the majority of people buying this 'perfect' game would be the casual gamer crowd, not necessarily a bad thing it's just that gaming is changing and will continue to change and there will never be a game that is 'perfect'. In order to do so it would have to please everyone which is just not going to happen. Remember, 'hype' is a four letter word and we all know how much impact four letter words have.

It probably is just me but i would play games, watch anime and card games.
their fun for a long time but after everything you see gets so repetitive, you just lose interest and want to forget and find a new hobby.
I personally believe the fall of gaming will start with the wii and nintendo going bankrupted. Yay

People play games for Escapist(lol) persuits and entertainment. So I think the only way a game would ever be classified as "perfect" would be if it suddenly became real.

Start hooking people up to computers and giving them mind altering subtances, then we'll see what GTA XXII is like.
