I don't really get the relationship between The Escapist and Warcry. I've been roaming around the Warcry site and forums and although it is an MMO based gaming site, it looks like there's far more activity around MMO games on The Escapist. Here's one recent example, from the front page news section:

The Escapist: BioWare Reveals The Old Republic's Smuggler Class [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.118818]. Reads: 480. Comments: 27.

Warcry: SWTOR: Smuggler Class Announced [http://www.warcry.com/forums/read/118.118790]. Reads: 21. Comments: 0.

There's also a separate SWTOR subforum on Warcry, which has a total postcount of 30.

My point is tht there's far more activity on the Gaming Discussion subforum about this new MMO then on Warcry. So what exactly is the purpose of this merge between The Escapist and Warcry? If Warcry is supposed to be the MMO portal, why not link all the MMO related news to the Warcry forum for instance? I'm very excited about SWTOR but currently I'm more inclined to post threads about it on The Escapist forum than on Warcry's SWTOR subforum.

Warcry and Escapist are both Themis Group forums, the former came before the latter if I remember right. In terms of communities we mesh less than people think. The general feeling over there seems to be that we're stuck-up pretentious bastards who only traverse their forums for badges, and the reverse is that many Escapists see Warcry as the grungy associate who needs to pick up his/her standard.

Haha, spot on!

I find that they talk about MMOs too much and there aren't many consistent posters. I would say you hit the mark!

I recently checked out Warcry, I was put off by the endless bitching about The Escapist and its residents though. I understand they want their standards followed, but they aren't going the right way about it. Between the two, I find the environment here more friendly therefore linking the two sites to each other doesn't bother me for I would never try to attempt conversation with those on Warcry.

It does seem that they love to complain about the escapist. Is it just me or does that site seem to have less people on it? A lot of the threads on there never have more than 10 responses. The whole site gives me this weird twilight zone vibe.
I have a "slit my wrists" moment each time I think I can give them a chance. But the place is too depressing, so emo. It's like the dark corner of the internets where all the emo's go to hide.

The last I read, some of their 'loyal' members were threatening to leave over the linking of the sites. A little sad, but maybe it would do better if their attitudes toward others improved a little.

Funny you should mention that, i actually saw a thread on there the staff started addressing the issue. It was all a bit much, everyone whining about this and that and of course the staff trying to placate the over zealous.

Would this be the thread? If so then yes, I have read it and it is very, very painful to sit through -_-

Why is Warcry even still there? I don't get it.

I visited once, but was put off by the lack of content and hostility of the members. Also, I don't getwhy someone would want to visit a forum solely dedicated to MMOs. It just feel so... restrictive.

All I know is those on Warcry dislike those from the escapist, so I try to avoid their froums. Why go there when all it will do is piss them off, I don't mind them coming here however. I judge people on what they say, not where they come from, and yes I am aware that the WarCry members who dislike Escapists are not the majority, but I avoid their froums all the same.

Back in the day, you know those 'articles' under featured content? That basically was The Escapist: it was a widescreen graphic magazine. It was actually incredible.
Thanks for clearing that out. Now that you mentioned it, I do remember the first issue and finding it amazing, but later lost track of it. I wasn't aware that it's The Escapist I've come to know and love for Unforgotten Realms, Zero Punctuation and Unskippable!

I only posted on warcry to get the vagabond badge, I kept my head down and no one bothered me. I don't really like warcry, they seem to hate escapists and the signatures look atrocious.

And this about sums it up.

Hmm, not sure there. Ive been on war cry a handful of times. Didnt really enjoy it there, everyone is a little weird and rather hostile to people from the escapist...also i dont play MMOs so one less reason to visit.
Essentially this. Everyone thinks we are obsessed with badges and generally report on sight if you have an "escapist" look about you.

Can anyone tel me whats happened to them? It seems that all the Warcry regulars have now left for newgrounds.
The vast majority of us left because of how poorly the situation was handled when "The Escapist Corner" and its shadowy equivalent were introduced. We did not leave because Escapist members continued to post. When you spit in the face of long time members, it hangs a cloud over the whole affair. We felt it best to take our leave and hang our hats on a new rack.

I'm terribly sorry about bringing this to the forefront, but I found it a bit funny that someone actually owned up to only posting for the badge. I believe he is the first I've seen to be candid about why he was there. Everyone else throws a tantrum and raucously denies their true intent in favor of something along the lines of "but I love MMOs! You guys suck. I'm going back to the Escapist!"

Mega is angry with us because he posted in the EVE section with something completely unrelated to the topic at hand. It was actually completely unrelated to the entire forum. If it were a comment about EVE, nothing would have been said. For a lad with nearly 2000 posts, it should be obvious what the sister site (WarCry) is about.

WarCry is still there because WarCry, in its prime, put the Escapist to shame. Even with its diminished content, it still draws considerable traffic. As a poster stated earlier, the Escapist evolved from WarCry featured content. The early days of the Escapist focused on actually reporting gaming news across all walks, offering various viewpoints and editorials regarding gaming. Now, it focuses on a motor-mouthed Aussie that loves to grumble about games. I can genuinely say that I enjoyed reading the Escapist until they added forums. That ruined the whole experience.

But you gotta love the motor-mouthed aussie, also what's with some of the warcry people and their vendetta against badge hunters? I know they're the minority but it seems weird since there are so many warcry forums, it's not like were diluting it with stupid comments, or were they?

Same.
I also don't like the community. Some are OK, But it seems that most of them hate the community from The Escapist. Also, I prefer this site's content.

No, they mostly all hate it.
Even I hate it.
Because you're not posting to say something, you're posting to get that little square to put beneath your avatar.

You could've actually, I don't know, contributed?

And you know Coldplay stole that song? From Joe Satriani?
