So, I don't think I'm violating any forum rules with this post.

Does anyone else find it a tiny bit pathetic that The Escapist is begging us to vote for them as the best webzine.

I know that The Escapist is the best, but the begging seems insufferable. It seems a little ironic with The Escapist's elitist attitude toward every other gaming site that they would give a shit about this.

Your thoughts please, because I for one am getting irritated at seeing the stupid ploy for voting every time I get on the site.

You can't just ignore it? Besides why not, it's a reminder that there is a competition on and as regular users we should vote because clearly the people of IGN and GameSpot forums is going to vote for us out of good will and respect for quality.

You're not breaking any rules but you're sure going to piss someone off.

I don't know, just don't vote if it bothers you so much. I haven't seen one single reference to it, all I see are side-ads telling me I can become a "star". Of course they want people to vote for them, and it's the least you can do for such a great community. Let's try to get the boys and girls a nice holiday bonus!

There are always ads here, would you rather a bunch of Evony ads? Or those annoying smileys that talk when you roll your cursor over them? It isn't pathetic, and don't see how it could even be construed as such. Every gaming site has something telling you to vote for them when these things roll around.

But you do realize that if the site gets voted best webzine the type of idiot motherfuckers will be attracted to the site and ruin shit for regular posters? (trolls and such)

I'm not trying to piss anyone off, I'm just trying to say that if The Escapist knows it's the best, which by it's elitist attitude it totally does, then why even worry about what some stupid, arbitrary web award says about it. Gaming companies will still pay for advertising on the site regardless of whether it wins the award, the publicity from being nominated seals that. I just don't like the constant patronization of the users.

I can ignore it but I'm mainly talking about preserving a healthy forum community.

The be a star things are different, they don't say submit a video every chance you get, whereas the voting for best webzine do.

I've been here for quite a while even before I signed an account. The awards have nothing to do bad quality posts. You know why? The escapist wins at least four different web awards every year. and the escapist has been around for a lot longer than people think. Awards don't attract people to this site, Yahtzee does and he's the main reason over 90% of us are even here.

I'm not trying to piss anyone off, I'm just trying to say that if The Escapist knows it's the best, which by it's elitist attitude it totally does, then why even worry about what some stupid, arbitrary web award says about it. Well how do you know you're the best unless you receive public recognition for it... like say an award? Anything else would be arrogant. I think you're really taking this far with the whole "patronizing" and "elitist attitude". They're simply advertising a competition yet you're blowing it out of proportion by trying underpin some elaborate psycho-analytic cry for appreciation.

I can ignore it but I'm mainly talking about preserving a healthy forum community.
Community is the keyword here. A community is made up of people and the people are users. I fail to see how a banner on the website which will easily go away after a few weeks affects a "healthy forum" you may as well complain about the default font.

There advertisments for votes. Politicans in reality do it all the time. The diffrence is that when we use this site we give us the idea that were suppose to represent and support our website of choice.

Whatever. It's not any worse than what any other website does when they get nominated for some meaningless award.

Now if there are going to be 30-second unskippable ads in front of every video about this, we've got another story altogether.

They are not begging, if they sent a PM to everybody, every day, that would be begging. But they do not, and I don't think the site itself is elitist. You are making some very backhanded comments, pick your words better next time.

I voted because I belive this site should win, that you agree but did not vote makes you very strange.

Maybe I just find awards ridiculous and don't really feel that anyone should care about them. It's nice to be recognized but through some arbitrary spam effort seems pretty pathetic to me.

All I've seen are a few banners along the bottom every now and again. It's not like they're constantly messaging you to vote for them, it's just like EVERY other annoying ad.

Begging? no.

There simply asking its users to vote for them, which they should.
