The Escapist... broken?

For the longest time, I had no problems with coming here. The Escapist worked as well as any other website I visited...

Until a couple of months ago

Now, the pages take full minutes to load and god forbid if I try to leave a page before it finishes loading... it'll choke off my whole connection. This problem keeps me from wanting to visit this site and I think it's something the Escapist should know about. I don't know if I'm the only one who has this problem or not, either. Nobody talks about it.

I know it's not me. All the other pages I visit load just fine on any browser I use. I have a high speed internet connection, so that's not it. It's only this site... I'll click a link and it'll take over two minutes to even begin to load the page... if it loads at all. It doesn't matter if I use IE8, Firefox, or Chrome. The Escapist just doesn't want to load...

Did you guys lose a server in the US or something? What happened? Is anybody else experiencing this?

Works like a charm for me. Sorry for the inconvenience to you, though.

I'm doing fine. Try clearing your cache. For some reason I hear that might help.

I must say, the Escapist does take a little longer to load than most sites, but never on the age of "minutes".

Everything has been running fine, there was the expected slow down when they did the big makeover but other than that all is well.
Now that you mention it, it DID start shortly after the big makeover... but not from the debut of the makeover.

I know it's not me... like I said, this is the ONLY site where this happens and it doesn't matter what browser I use, either.

I've had similar problems, yes.
For you is it like threads don't load as smoothly?
For example if you want to respond to a quote and you click the "view post" button, you will be 2 or 3 posts below/above (or more, depending on how many posts are already on that page) than the one that actually concerns you. And when you post it "jumps" up.
It's sort of hard to explain, but that is the only minor issue I've had since the site was updated.

The flash ads made my wee netbook flip out, so I got the Firefox ad-blocker. That helped a lot.

Oh man, that Banjo Kazooie ad, with the obnoxious music...who ever designed that add should have his face chewed off by rats.

Ummmm... Nothing in the order of minutes, but usually in the afternoon (ET), especially when loading the forums, the site seems to freeze my PC for 5-10 seconds. Nothing too worrying, though.

Aside from the long periods of time in which videos refused to load for me for the past year and a half, I've had few problems.

If you're experiencing technical whoopsies, go ask Virgil, the IT Modern Major General of Themis.
