I gotta be honest with you guys, this video made me choke up a bit. Hearing all the testimonials and stories about how japanese games have affected game developers and journalists reminded me on how much they have affected me. Being both a gamer and a comic artist, Japan's influence has changed almost everyday of my life ever since I first played Pokemon Red on the Gameboy on Christmas and read my first manga in the bookstore of the mall. I haven't stopped doodling big anime eyes on the sides of my note books since.

What has happened to Japan strikes a powerful blow to my emotions. It feels less like a national crisis to some country on the other side of the world and more like close friend who I've known for most of my life suddenly having a knife shoved into his chest. I know Japan is more then just video games, sushi, and anime, but I can't change how personal this tragedy feels.

My heart and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

I don't particularly like any Japanese games, but I can definitely acknowledge how it has shaped the foundations of the video game industry today.

Regardless of its relation to video games, my heart goes out to Japan and its people.

Am I the only one to fnd the "The events in Japan really affected me" comment to be somewhat insensitive?

Other than that good vid.

I really love Japanese games for their ability to take standards and expectations that we, in the west, have accepted and defy them. Take Vanquish, which sets itself up as a super-serious western-oriented shooter, and then throws in this very Japanese sense of style, it really threw me for a hook.
That's why I love Japan.

I thought I would add another site to watch for - Play for Japan is encouraging publishers and developers to dig deep to find special and limited items to auction on ebay raising lots of cash for the cause. All money goes to help the efforts. Please check it out - http://playforjapan.org/

Including a very rare SEGA Dreamcast jacket - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Play-Japan-SEGA-Dreamcast-Employee-Jacket-RARE-/160566551301?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2562832305&afsrc=1

Thanks!

*sniff* Truly this a great cause and I'm glad that gamers are interested in current events like-

What? What was that?

You said there was a similar earthquake in Haiti that caused as much destruction to a country that was worse off before hand?

Fuck them. JAPAN HAS VIDEO GAMES!

It's nice to finally see some of the people of the Escapist, now I finally have faces to match with the names.
I can't say anything about Japan without getting at least a suspension.

Here is my challenge to you guys. Add up everything you've picked up on one of Steam's infamous sales, but yet to actually play, and donate that amount to the Red Cross. These people need so much help, and they've given us so very, very much.

While I love your idea, I don't buy anything on steam...
