The Escapist should get Angry Joe on the team

Umm... no actually they shouldn't. He's got a pretty sweet deal working for Channel Awesome. Besides, I never liked him. His reviews lack a level of professionalism. His skits are unfunny and he's frequently wrong in his videos. That especially shined through in his review of Brink. Also, his "interview" with Geoff Keighley was a disgrace. He makes himself out to be some kind of messiah of the masses, which is honestly just obnoxious.

I certainly wouldn't be mad if he got on here, but I can't say that they really need him on here. He's a great reviewer, but we do already have people like Yahtzee on here which pretty much covers our "angry" reviewers.

I don't care for Angry Joe or Guy with Glasses. I find they both try to hard and all the yelling and over acting is just annoying to me however they are popular so if people like them I say enjoy it till your hearts content.
I think that Joe is more of a free agent. Yeah, everyone else on TGWTG is hardly original and pick on the same films with a Pseudo Intellectual personality, that anyone with a brain knows that an unknown C Rank 80s Anime is going to suck.

I don't mind Joe really- I just take his video for what they are, yes the skits are annoying and could trim reviews down by 5 minutes. But I appreciate the depth of the reviews. I enjoy his videos more than Total Biscuit. *shudder*

Angry Joe loved XCom and still made very good criticisms while at the same time being very entertaining. He's pretty good regardless.

Meh, if we were going to have anyone here, I'd rather TotalBiscuit than AngryJoe.
i second this notion
based solely on i watch more of TB's videos
Although both of them already have a contract with TGS, so that's pretty much that.

I would prefer game grumps, they are funnier. :3

Or totalbiscuit atleast for a serious game reviewer.

Angry Joe use to be really good with hi reviews and what not, but lately I've found him to be picking on things that really don't make much sense. I'll elaborate. When he reviewed Saints Row: The Third some of the criticism for the game seemed to be somewhat unwarranted or just plain wrong. He was annoyed that the game wasn't like the second Saints Row, he believed that it became too silly (it's debatable that he may be right, but the whole series has always been silly, good example is the mini game in SR2 where you spray crap on houses and what not). He also stated that the game forces you to play the minigames in order to proceed, however this is not entirely true. Saints Row 3 has main missions intergrate the minigames once, and then the rest of the game you have the choice to play them or not, whilst in the second game the minigames HAD to be played in order to advance on to the next main mission and you would have to play them multiple times.

Another example of where he has had strange criticisms is in his Assassins Creed 3 review. He was criticising the video games loading screens for being too bright (which is a really stupid thing to put a game down for). He also criticised the game for not allowing him to run head first into hundreds of soldiers shooting at him, and that the mission forced him to play stealthily...OH NO! How dare the developers make a section where the Assassin has to use stealth to get to his target. If anything, that mission was made so much better that it didn't follow the trailer, because it made you feel like an Assassin, yet Joe was angry because he couldn't do something that was in a pre release cinematic trailer.

Angry Joe use to be really good at reviewing games, but lately he seems to have fallen into the whole "Wait until everyone else says something about the game being good or bad, and then look for all possible things to criticise the game about". Which is really annoying because there are games he has given 5 and 6 scores for when in reality they are quite good. I wanna see Joe back when he was reviewing marvel vs capcom 3. THAT was a good review, same with his Mortal Kombat review, but lately he just seems to be waiting for the majority to cast their opinion on the game before he gives the game a fair go.

To do what exactly?

I think the quirky/angry game coverage has already been well filled by Yahtzee and Jim Sterling. [sub]No pun intended there, Jim.[/sub]
and when jim came out (aside form the hate) people said we "already had some video guy with a british acccent" (because peopel can be fucking stupid)

he cleary has a different style and I see no reason to say "oh no, we cant have you we already have two video guys" plus jim doesnt exactly reveiw games directly, yahtzee does but again he has a shorter and different style, I think more videos on this site would be good

I actually like the idea, and think the Escapist may be a good fit for Joe. He's a smarter reviewer than he lets on, and god knows that amongst the likes of Yahtzee and Jim, the Escapist could use more reviewers with Joe's more grounded, less snooty perpective.

Don't get me wrong, I love Yahtzee, Jim, and Moviebob, I just think we might benefit from someone who sees things from a slightly different angle, and Joe does view games from a much more "Average gamer" POV then anyone we have here.
hypothetically would this mean he wouldn't be on TGWTG anymore? (I dont know if he's afiliated with any other sites) it would be another blow for the site ever since doug retired his nostalga critic persona...that said though I stoped watching him some time ago and watch Nostalga chick instead (because shes awsome)

1. It's his thing to review games, nnot tear them down for comedy. A game comes out, he reviews it honestly.
2. He has personal friends on Channel Awesome and Blistered Thumbs. I don't think he'd ditch them for a raise.

Isn't the "weekly rant video on something that pisses someone off" category already lovingly catered for by Yahtzee?
I wish it wasn't. Joe is so much better.

And it's not like there's a quota on how many contributors have to be on the site.

Something a lot of people don`t seem to understand is that a lot of these really good online comedians and reviewers don`t want to be on the escapist because signing on means they no longer have total control of their brand. It`s why the majority of entertainers on the escapist either were not well established when they started out on the site or were not already supported financially by their reviews or videos.

Hmmyeah, I don't know. With Jim it was that a lot of people didn't know him yet and he himself was still new to video, so he got some initial flak.

I wouldn't say more videos is always better. At a certain point they'll start to push eachother out of the nest. And Joe has a different style, but I don't know if it'd be fit for this site. Lisa What's-her-name's (I really can't remember) videos didn't quite fit in with this place neither.

Uh, I didn't say that. No Right Answer isn't "arty" or negative and it fits right in. The thing is we already have the standard game reviews from the Escapist staff, so unless Joe pitches something to make his video stand out like Zero Punctuation, Jimquisition, or even Escape to the Movies, I don't see how he can make a place for himself here without falling through the cracks.

I love Matt and Pat's Two Best Friends Play, but I wouldn't exactly see them fit in over here either.

From what I've seen his reviews are rather awkwardly vary between serious and (somewhat) funny, both of which are covered by Editor reviews and Yahtzee respectivly.

If he cuts out the often cringeworthy skits he sticks into his videos and stops trying to try so hard I could see him as a reviewer here. Otherwise his show wouldn't fit in very well, trying to be both humorous and informative when there are contributors that do those singly rather well.
