I was actually having a discussion to this effect in IRC. My Baptism by Fire was spent striking up a lot of discussions, which I really don't do anymore. If you check through my first posts, you'll see a lot of discussion prompts, like "Equality" and "Whose English do you Use?" Which made for interesting threads, to be sure, but certainly seems like I had someone I was trying to impress. In retrospect, I have no idea who.

Also, onto the growing topic if Zero Punctuation, I can really only credit coming to the Escapist because of it. Which is somewhat shameful, but how one arrives to places is unrelated to the content of a poster's character. Zero Punctuation is (usually) funny videos, so I won't hold its fans against it.

At least I think I'm respected.
You are, if my respect counts for anything.

Is it me or do many new escapists whenever they join do the following:
make a few polls of random stuff
get banned
then become more mature
I think there's plenty of posts of how to act and what is unacceptable so it helps new people like myself know the boundaries and what is expected.

I've only started two threads, although I did post twice by mistake - embarrassing. I IM'd a mod who sorted it out for me. I am pretty mature though, both in age and character.
How long before a person isn't considered a newb?

And yes I was sent here by a friend for Zero Punctuation... which is no shame.

When I first started, I remember making the most idiotic posts/topics, and I'm surprised I wasn't banned or put on probation for them.
Even now, sometimes I think I make retarded topics, if not retarded posts. But that's my fault, for sometimes I am not thinking while I'm typing, and considering I'm only 15. But I remember before this site, I actually wasn't as mature as I am now.

And agreeing with Fire Daemon on this, I, to was brought in to The Escapist by ZP. My friend showed me it once while I was at his house, and I created an account just to watch all of the reviews. But after awhile, I just started posting, and now I'm at this.

I haven't even gotten my hand slapped yet, and I don't plan on it happening, and I still consider myself an Escapist n00b.

The Escapist is a bit like the Grey Knights from 40k. At first you go through tough physical tests. If your one of the 0.1% that past this test then you have your courage, honour and faith in the Emperor tested. If you show unbreakable faith then you are shown the un-speakable horrors of the warp. If your one of the few that don't go insane you get to come here and talk about videogames.

I do feel sorry for all those loonies we make though. maybe we should be a little bit more relaxed in our training programme.
What's the warp? Participating in a Yahtzee thread?

+1 I'm not sure if that was a joke made in ignorance of the 40k mythos or not.

I've been VERY careful not to get banned. It's hard sometimes, sometimes I just want to write obscenities to people who really piss me off. But somehow I've managed to suppress it.
I'm the same way. I usually write something that would get me banned. I just don't hit post. It works wonders.
